The Sokoto State Government has taken a significant step toward implementing a new minimum wage by requesting the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to submit its proposal.
Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir announced this development during an interaction with journalists following a meeting with the union’s executive council. He explained that the proposal would help harmonize salaries across the state’s civil service.
This was revealed in a statement issued by Comrade Garba Mohammed, Director of Press at the Deputy Governor’s office, and shared with the media in Gusau.
Gobir reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare through the adoption of the new minimum wage. “We are fully committed to ensuring that the workforce receives fair remuneration,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto NLC Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungul, urged civil servants to remain patient as preparations for the new wage implementation progress. He assured workers that the union would soon submit its proposal to the state government.
Jungul also praised the state government’s sincere efforts toward addressing workers’ needs. “The government’s commitment is clear, and we are optimistic that the new salary scale will be implemented without delay,” he remarked.
This collaboration marks a positive development in Sokoto’s efforts to enhance the welfare of its workforce.
