Goals from Mistura Olamilekan and Victory Lucky were all Sunshine Queens needed to come from behind and knock out Nigeria Women Football League campaigners, Confluence Queens, in the 2025 President Federation Cup Round of 16 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
Sunshine Queens’ victory over Confluence Queens has taken them to the quarter-finals of the oldest football competition in the country.
Confluence Queens opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Winner David, leaving the Akure Land Ladies trailing by a goal in the first half of the encounter.
Sunshine Queens shrugged off the early setback and continued pressing for an equaliser, which didn’t come until after the break, as the centre referee signalled the end of the first stanza.
Mistura Olamilekan wasted no time in restoring parity for Sunshine Queens in the 63rd minute, scoring from a rebound off her teammate’s strike.
The contest remained intense, with Sunshine Queens dominating play from defence to the final third.
Victory Lucky sealed Sunshine Queens’ quarter-final ticket with an 83rd-minute strike, converting from Aluba Ogba’s well-placed free kick.
Confluence Queens’ efforts to equalise proved abortive, as the enthralling encounter ended in favour of Sunshine Queens.
Meanwhile, Onimarg FC, the second representative from Ondo State in the competition, suffered a 5–0 defeat to another NWFL side, Heartland Queens FC, at the same venue.
In his post-match interview, Sunshine Queens’ head coach, Rafiu Oseni, commended his players for sticking to instructions, saying the victory was a collective effort from the coaching team.
Oseni noted that despite the victory over an NWFL side, there were still areas of the team’s play that needed improvement.
According to him, “We will build on this good performance as we prepare for the Championship in the next few weeks.
“This President Federation Cup serves as a preparatory competition for us ahead of the forthcoming NWFL Championship.
“We’re not there yet; we will continue to work hard.
“We still have some good players back home who are not eligible for this FA Cup.
“I knew this game was going to be tough. Playing against a league team isn’t easy, but thank God for my assistants.
“We planned for this game together, and to the glory of God, it ended in our favour.”

…says road crucial to agribusiness, tourism development
‘No road project will be left uncompleted’
The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday, flagged off the dualisation of the Akure-Idanre Road, translating one of his major electioneering campaign promises into action.
The flag-off ceremony, held at Arakale-Oke-Aro Junction in Akure, marked the commencement of Phase 1 of the project — a 10-kilometre stretch from Cashhold Junction to KM10 on the Akure-Idanre corridor.
The project will feature modern traffic systems and solar-powered streetlights, and is designed to accommodate heavy vehicular traffic with its robust pavement structure and 28-metre wide carriageway.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, describing the project as crucial to accelerated progress and prosperity in the state.
“This project stands as a powerful testimony to the resolve of our administration to build an Ondo State where opportunities are not just promised but are accessible, a place where every citizen can thrive in an environment of progress and shared prosperity.” He said
The Governor linked the initiative to his administration’s 7-Point Development Agenda, known as “OUR EASE,” noting that the Akure-Idanre Road is a critical economic artery long plagued by congestion, delays, and safety hazards due to its outdated single carriageway.
“For what has seemed like an eternity, this road has been a source of daily frustration for commuters and a bottleneck for the movement of agricultural produce from Idanre to Akure’s markets. Today, we begin to change that story”, he said.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also emphasized that the road would boost tourism to the iconic Idanre Hills and promote economic growth through increased connectivity, trade, job creation, and ease of movement.
The Governor noted that other features of the road would include dual carriageways with a width of 9.3 meters, 1.5-meter walkways on each side, a 3-meter utility bay, Line drains and medians, and traffic lights at critical intersections.
Describing the project as a gateway to unlocking the vast potential of Ondo state, Aiyedatiwa assured residents that it would be completed to the highest standards and within schedule.
The Governor also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enabling states to pursue developmental projects through increased fiscal capacity.
Governor Aiyedatiwa promised that all ongoing road projects across the state, including the ones inherited by his administration, will be completed.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Olawoye Ayorinde Abiola, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritizing critical infrastructure projects across the state.
He said, “The commencement of this project shows the Governor’s clear focus on delivering impactful developments that will benefit our people for generations. The dualisation of the Akure-Idanre Road is a strategic move to ease transportation, enhance safety, and stimulate economic growth.”
Engr. Abiola assured the public that the construction would be carried out with strict adherence to quality standards and within the projected timelines. He noted that the new road, would not only serve current needs but also support future expansion and development.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Gbenga Fasua, described the event as a remarkable and unforgettable day for the people of Akure, both at home and in the diaspora. He expressed deep appreciation to the governor on behalf of the people, noting their excitement and gratitude over the dualization of the Oke Aro–Idanre Road (Phase One), which he said would greatly enhance transportation and development in the area.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Idanre Local Government, Smart Omotadowa, commended the governor for prioritizing infrastructural development across the state. He noted that the commencement of the road project would bring significant relief to residents and foster greater connectivity between Akure and Idanre.
Also speaking, the member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Festus Akingbaso, lauded the state government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises. He emphasized that the road project is a testament to responsive governance and assured constituents that in his own capacity, he would continue to support initiatives that improve their livelihoods.
The Managing Director of Roosco Construction Ltd, Mr. Marcel Alrouss, whose company is handling the project, provided details on the scope and execution of the dualization.
He explained that the project involves the expansion of the existing road into a dual carriageway, complete with modern drainage systems, pedestrian walkways, and improved safety features.
Mr. Alrouss assured that the construction would adhere to the highest engineering standards and be delivered within the stipulated timeframe, emphasizing the company’s commitment to quality and timely delivery.
The Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for fulfilling his promise to dualise the road which demonstrates his commitment to the development of the state capital.

Apolitical organisation, Atunluse Initiatives, has called on the federal government, in conjunction with other tiers of government, to declare a state of emergency in the security sector.
The Chairman of the Atunluse Initiatives, Otunba Akinsola Akinbobola, stated this during the organisation’s 2025 Love Feast held in Akure, the state capital.
The former Special Adviser to the ex-Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Political and Mobilisation, said governments at all levels should engage citizens in the security of the country.
He pointed not only to the failure of the security system, but also to a deeper systemic failure of leadership and followership, saying the government must man up, stop addressing mere symptoms, and begin to tackle the root causes by engaging the leaders of various ethnic nationalities.
He noted that insecurity has been largely responsible for the high cost of food items, as farmers are unable to go to their farms, leading to broken supply chains and deserted markets, giving rise to scarcity, inflation, hunger, and anger.
According to him, “In order to have effective security, it is important for the government to sensitise the citizenry to get involved in the business of securing the nation, with a view to energising or boosting the efforts of the government.”
“How are we going to attract investors to an environment bedevilled with insecurity? It is high time we understood that nothing discourages long-term commitment from global investors faster than insecurity, coupled with government inconsistency in policy making,” he added.
He asked further: “Was the security failure caused by poverty, injustice, lack of political will, ethnic and communal conflict, or the proliferation of arms?.
“Whatever the cause, we can no longer afford to sweep these questions under the carpet.”
The Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom, Alhaji Yayi Akorede, in his keynote address tagged” “Empowering the Less Privileged and Defining Government Influence in Building a Compassionate Society” , commended the group for their commitment to creating an egalitarian society where wealth and the dividends of democracy are distributed evenly.
He emphasised the necessity of inclusive governance and the empowerment of marginalised groups.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Director-General of the organisation, Elder Sikiru Adetona, highlighted the activities of the group, which include the enthronement of the late Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for his second term; the organisation of a National Prayer Day on 11 March 2021; and a high-powered symposium at the Adegbemile Cultural Centre Hall, Akure, on 19 February 2023, with the theme; “Let Our Votes Count”, among others.
The celebration began on April 25, 2025, with compassionate visits to two significant locations in Ondo State, the Children’s Home in Oba-Ile and the Ago-Ireti Leprosarium Community.
Recall that his Excellency Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa recently ordered the registration of all genuine farmers across the 18 LG Ondo State .
No doubt, this is a step at the right time in the right direction as it is mainly to know who are really the farmers, what they grows, where they farm and so that government can be able to assist adequately.
Having the database of farmers across the 18 LG of the state we go along way ensuring that the support and provisions by government gets to the real farmers correcting the lackluster past where most of the government gestures for farmers are given to wrong people consequently making it looks as if government are not doing anything about Agric and Agric business development.
Establishing a tractor unit in each senatorial district of the state will go a long way easing the activities of farmers on the field.
Kudos to the concept of “Our Ease” led by his Excellency Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa who is touching every sector to ensure that the people of the sunshine State benefited from the ongoing Renewed Hope initiative led by the federal government.
I use this Avenue to awake all genuine farmers, youths, elders, ladies and gentlemen who are actually doing this Agric business to endeavour to visit the OSAEC PORTAL using this link to register https://www.osaec.org.ng to be a beneficiary of the OUR EASE program in the Agricultural sector.
Today, we celebrate not just the passage of time, but the legacy of a man whose life is woven into the very fabric of our community — Alhaji Akeem Osho. At 59, he stands tall as a beacon of service, leadership, and dedication.
From founding the Ifesowapo Youth Forum (IYF), Odigbo LG, to his impactful years with the Ore Development Committee at Olore Palace (2002–2007), Hon. Osho has consistently shown his passion for people and progress.
His public service journey is marked with humility and impact, having served as Personal Assistant to both the former Odigbo LG Chairman, Hon. Prince Olu Falolu, and the former Supervisor for Works, Hon. Abayomi Akinnbounje.
As former ACN/APC Publicity Secretary for Odigbo LG, and current State Chairman of OSIRIOS (Osun State Indigenes Residing in Ondo State), his influence continues to shape political mobilization and unity among Osun indigenes in Ondo.
Presently, Hon. Osho is a full-time member of the Ondo/Osun Disputed Border Area Committee, Managing Director of A OSHO NIG LTD, and Chairman of OSHO-LOWO AL-BARIKA Cooperative Society Ltd.
