  • Afenifere youth leader exposes kidnapping camps in Southwest

    by

Afenifere National Youth President, Prince Eniola Ojajuni, has exposed the existence of well-organised kidnapping camps operating across four states in Southwest Nigeria.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Ojajuni, who was recently abducted by Fulani herdsmen in Ondo State, revealed shocking intelligence about these camps.

According to him, there are:27 kidnapping camps in Ondo State, 16 camps in Ekiti State, 7 camps in Osun State, and 5 camps in Ogun State.

Ojajuni urged the Southwest Governors’ Forum to immediately convene a regional security summit, including youth representatives, to tackle the escalating crisis.

“I propose the urgent establishment of a Southwest Youth Security Network in collaboration with the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Forest Guards Team. This initiative will enhance intelligence gathering, strengthen community surveillance, and ensure swift reporting and response to suspicious activities.”

Recounting his harrowing ordeal, Ojajuni revealed that he was abducted on February 17, 2025, while traveling near Akunu Akoko, Ondo State, on his way to Abuja. Armed Fulani herdsmen, disguised in military uniforms, ambushed his vehicle near a military checkpoint.

“They fired 19 bullets at our vehicle, injuring me and others before dragging us into captivity. I endured 12 grueling days in their camp, suffering two gunshot wounds, one narrowly missing my spinal cord. They beat me 72 times a day and subjected fellow captives, especially women, to brutal mistreatment.”

Ojajuni described how the kidnappers operated with military-like coordination, wielding over 20 AK-47 rifles and using advanced technology to track communications, negotiate ransoms, and evade security forces.

“They initially arranged for my ransom to be paid in Ikare, but later moved it to Ibilo after detecting security surveillance. They searched my phone, blocked certain contacts, and monitored social media.”

Ojajuni disclosed that the criminals plan to intensify abductions in Ondo and Lagos States, using their hidden camps as operational bases. They also mentioned active routes along the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Road near Oso-Sa Ijebu, indicating a well-planned network.

He warned that if security agencies do not act swiftly, more innocent lives will be at risk.

Ojajuni urged the Nigerian government to take decisive steps to combat the crisis by: deploying additional security personnel to high-risk areas

He called  for the need to establish more security checkpoints along highways and forest borders, enhancing intelligence-gathering and surveillance operations, and identifying and prosecuting collaborators aiding criminals

He commended the Inspector General of Police for launching an intelligence-driven rescue operation and praised the Nigeria Forest Guards Team for their swift intervention.

“Nigerians are resilient, but we cannot continue living under constant fear. Our leaders must be held accountable, and we must demand immediate solutions to end this reign of terror. The time for action is NOW.”

Ojajuni also saluted the bravery of fellow captives and expressed gratitude to his wife and younger brother, Amos Ojajuni, for their relentless efforts in securing his release.

  • Adhere to defensive driving technique –FRSC admonishes motorists

    by

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State, has called on motorists to be patient and adhere to defensive driving techniques, as the rainy season approached to avoid crashes on highways.

Dr Samuel Ibitoye, FRSC State Sector Commander, made the call while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Akure.

Ibitoye said that it had became imperative for motorists to fix the components of their vehicles.

According to him, the rainy season is gradually expected, so it will be good for all drivers to be prepared for it.

“Rainy season is a special season where all the drivers are supposed to get their wipers, headlamps, air conditioners, tyres and other vehicle’s components in perfect condition.

“Moreover, when you see that there is heavy downpour, it is better you park at a very safe place than to say let me continue the trip.

“And when you see vehicle ms coming during the rainy, please put on your headlamps, let others see you as much as they can see others.

“So, we want to also appeal to them (drivers) that they should adhere to principals of defensive driving technique during this season.

“And they (motorists) should please be patient every time, they should not speed more than necessary because patience, as I use to say, is the key to save lives,” he said

Ibitoye also vowed to sanction traffic offenders, and appealed to transport unions and other stakeholders to support the corps to ensure safe roads for all Nigerians.

“Sincerely, our major concern is for Nigerians to parade very healthy vehicle that can take them from one point to the other safely without causing any hazard or any problem on the road.

“It will ensure we can have our human resources intact that can help us live very healthy and fulfilled lives as a nation,” the sector commander said.

He, therefore, called on passengers to always speak up against reckless and dangerous drivers, and not to leave their lives in the hands of a single person.

“Remember that crashes kill more passengers than drivers

“If you observers that your driver is driving dangerous, please, without distracting him, politely tell him to drive safely or report him at any FRSC, police or military checkpoints for cautioning,” Ibitoye said.

  • My wife washed her private part, used the water to cook my food – Man reveals in Court

    by

A Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has issued a fresh hearing notice to Safiyah, who was taken to court by her husband, Hamzat (surname withheld).

Hamzat accused his wife of being troublesome, disobedient, and engaging in constant conflicts with him.

The petitioner further alleged that Safiyah engaged in diabolic practices, with support from her mother, in an attempt to manipulate and control him.

He claimed that she regularly washed her private parts and used the water to prepare his meals.

In his testimony, Hamzat described his wife as a habitual thief who frequently stole his money and valuables, significantly affecting his business.

He stated that their marriage, which was contracted through customary rites with a bride price of N15,000, had produced three children. However, he asserted that Safiyah’s behavior had made his home unbearable.

Hamzat lamented that his wife was disrespectful, unyielding, and often engaged in public arguments with him.

He further accused his mother-in-law of enabling Safiyah’s behavior and attempting to use charms to control him.

Due to these challenges, he pleaded with the court to dissolve their marriage and grant him custody of their children.

Additionally, he sought an order restraining Safiyah from harassing, threatening, or interfering in his personal life.

Despite being summoned, Safiyah failed to appear in court.

The court president, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case to April 8 for further hearing.

  • Akpabio gives condition to lift Senator Natasha’s six-month suspension

    by

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has asked Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to apologise to the Senate.

He said that doing so might lead to a reconsideration of her six-month suspension.

Speaking during a plenary session on Thursday, Akpabio stated that the Senate remains open to reconciliation but warned that the senator’s approach to the issue could discourage political leaders from appointing women to top positions in the future.

He noted that her public actions, including speaking about the matter on media platforms, had misrepresented the facts.

He also expressed concern that Akpoti-Uduaghan had taken the issue beyond the Senate by seeking intervention from international bodies.

According to him, the matter could have been handled internally within the Senate or through the judiciary, where she had already taken legal action.

Akpabio reassured that the Senate remains committed to supporting women in leadership roles.

He pointed out that all four female senators in the 10th Assembly currently serve as committee chairpersons, which he described as a deliberate effort to ensure women’s representation in the legislature.

He further stated that the Senate operates under the laws of Nigeria and has internal mechanisms to address disputes among lawmakers.

He urged Akpoti-Uduaghan to reconsider her approach and take advantage of the opportunity to resolve the issue within the Senate.

“We are still open to making sure that we remain in peace. We left room for her to recognise that what she is doing may even frighten a lot of men in future from even appointing or selecting female deputy governors.

“You can imagine if somebody like Kamala, the immediate past vice president of the United States, were to go on CNN to say that President Joe Biden sexually assaulted her by shaking her hand or by holding her hand to show her the office of the president. That automatically means that nobody will pick another woman as vice president.

“But I have four daughters, so I want to plead with politicians to still give my four children a chance. Do not take the action of one person and punish others,” he said.

  • Ondo govt to verify allocated land for tree planting

    by

    ,

In a bid to safeguard Ondo State’s forest reserves and promote sustainable land use, the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has reaffirmed its commitment to verifying lands allocated to investors for economic and indigenous tree planting.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Chief Olusegun Odusanya, made this known while receiving the executive members of the Tree Planters Association in his office in Akure.

A statement issued by the Ministry’s Head of Publicity and Media Relations, Mr. Sola Omoboyowa, emphasized that the verification exercise aims to ensure compliance with the stipulated terms of engagement, which prioritize afforestation.

Chief Odusanya warned that the government would not tolerate any misuse of allocated lands, stressing that investors must adhere strictly to tree planting agreements. He also called for the association’s cooperation in forest regeneration efforts.

Commending the group for their contributions, he acknowledged their donation of customized caps in commemoration of World Forest Day, scheduled for March 21, 2025.

In response, the State Chairman of the Tree Planters Association, Mr. Bello Adeola Mufu, expressed gratitude for the government’s support. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to forest conservation and pledged active participation in this year’s World Forest Day celebration.

  • Ondo Kidnapping: Surveyors demand sack of Aiyedatiwa’s Aide over controversial comment

    by

The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) has called on Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to urgently review the appointment of Mr. Bola Taiwo, the Special Adviser on Union Matters, over his recent remarks regarding the kidnapping of surveyors.

Taiwo had reportedly blamed the victims for failing to provide their own security despite charging clients substantial fees. In response, the NIS condemned his statement, arguing that it not only trivializes the growing security crisis in Ondo State but also exposes surveyors and other professionals to greater risks.

Speaking at a press conference, NIS state chairman, Kayode Tajudeen Bello, decried the increasing cases of kidnapping targeting surveyors working on-site across the state. He noted that many members now fear for their safety, especially when working outside the state capital.

Bello described Taiwo’s comments as “insensitive and dangerous,” stressing that security is a fundamental government responsibility and should not be shifted onto individual professionals.

“Surveyors, like other professionals in the civil service, do not typically work with security escorts. It is unfair to single out our profession and suggest that we must personally arrange security before carrying out our duties,” Bello stated.

The NIS further rejected claims that surveyors charge excessive fees without accounting for security, clarifying that their charges are regulated.

“Security should be a right, not a privilege. Instead of making careless statements, the government must focus on strengthening security measures across the state,” Bello added.

The association issued a 48-hour ultimatum, demanding Taiwo’s removal, and warned that legal action would be taken if the government failed to act promptly.

  • BREAKING: Supreme Court dismisses Agboola Ajayi’s case against Governor Aiyedatiwa

A Victory for Democracy, the Rule of Law, and the Good People of Ondo State – Attorney General, Dr. Ajulo

In a landmark judgment delivered by the Supreme Court, the legal challenge filed by former Ondo State Deputy Governor and PDP governorship candidate in the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election, Hon. Agboola Alfred Ajayi, has been dismissed.

The Supreme Court ruled against the appellants on the issue of locus standi, stating that they lacked the legal standing to pursue the case, rendering the appeal unsustainable. Furthermore, the court affirmed that the case was statute-barred, upholding the decisions of the lower courts. It emphasised that the cause of action arose on May 20, 2024, when the nomination forms were submitted to INEC, while the appellants filed their suit at the Federal High Court on June 7, 2024, well beyond the 14-day limit prescribed by law. Consequently, the appeal was dismissed, with the court ordering Agboola Ajayi to pay ₦2 million in costs to each of the four respondents.

Ajayi had sought to nullify the election of Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Owolabi Adelami over allegations of discrepancies in his name change, as well as challenging the legitimacy of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the case.

Ajayi’s argument centred on the claim that Adelami, who previously had “Jackson” as his middle name while in secondary school, had changed it to “Owolabi” without proper documentation. However, the Supreme Court found no legal basis to disqualify the deputy governor on these grounds, emphasizing that name changes, when properly documented, do not constitute electoral fraud or disqualification.

Reacting to the development, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, described the judgment as “a victory for democracy, the rule of law, and the good people of Ondo State.” He emphasised that electoral disputes should be grounded in concrete evidence rather than technicalities that do not affect the credibility of an election.

Dr. Ajulo likened Governor Aiyedatiwa’s triumph to a testament of perseverance and divine vindication, stating that “just as truth always prevails over falsehood, justice has now been served.” He commended the Governor for his unwavering focus on governance despite distractions and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the continued development of Ondo State.

“This is also a vindication and affirmation of the just ruling of the Federal High Court, Akure, delivered by Hon. Justice Oluwatoyin Adegoke, as well as the verdict of the Court of Appeal, Akure, presided over by Hon. Justice Oyebisi Omoleye, Hon. Justice Hadiza Shagari, and Hon. Justice Fadawu Umaru. These distinguished Justices demonstrated professionalism and integrity in their judgments, which have now been affirmed by the Supreme Court.

I salute these esteemed Justices and commend the brilliant legal minds who stood firmly in defence of truth and justice. In particular, I acknowledge Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, Charles Edosomwan, SAN, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, and Remi Olatubora, SAN, for their exceptional advocacy, as well as the legal representatives of the appellants.”

As I have stated previously, the courtroom is a battleground for legal reasoning, and every advocate who argues a case contributes to strengthening our democracy. Justice is best served when all sides are heard, and I deeply respect their dedication to upholding the sanctity of the legal process,” Dr. Ajulo stated.

With this ruling, the Supreme Court has effectively put an end to the legal battle, reaffirming Governor Aiyedatiwa’s victory in the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election. The decision solidifies the legitimacy of the APC-led government in Ondo State, closing the chapter on the prolonged political legal tussle.

  • Ondo Polls: Court dismisses suit seeking Aiyedatiwa, Deputy’s disqualification

    by

A Federal High Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has dismissed a suit challenging the eligibility of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Olayide Adelami, to contest the November 16, 2024, governorship election in the state.

The suit was filed by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) governorship candidate, Olugbenga Edema, who sought an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw Aiyedatiwa’s nomination under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Edema, who defected to the NNPP after losing in the APC primaries, alleged that Aiyedatiwa’s governorship ticket was fraudulently obtained . However, Aiyedatiwa strongly refuted the claim.

The suit originally listed Edema and the NNPP as plaintiffs and named Aiyedatiwa, Adelami, INEC, and the APC as defendants. However, during the proceedings, the NNPP withdrew from the case, prompting the court to strike out its name.

During Monday’s hearing, the plaintiff’s counsel, Soladoye Ekundayo, informed the court that he had filed an appeal against the ruling that removed the NNPP from the case.

He requested an adjournment to amend his pleadings accordingly.

However, the defense counsel—Charles Edosanwon (for Aiyedatiwa), Banjo Aiyenakin (for Adelami), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (for INEC), and Remi Olatubora (for APC)—opposed the request, arguing that the suit lacked diligent prosecution and should be dismissed.

Leading the defense, Edosanwon emphasized that an appeal does not automatically halt court proceedings, and since the plaintiff had failed to file any formal application before the court, there was no basis for an adjournment.

He urged the court to bring the case to an end so the Court of Appeal could take up any remaining issues.

In her ruling, Justice Toyin Bolaji Adegoke stated that the notice of appeal did not constitute a stay of proceedings and criticized the plaintiff’s failure to amend his pleadings as required.

She described Edema’s actions as self-serving and noted that his failure to comply with the court’s directive significantly weakened the case.

Consequently, Justice Adegoke dismissed the suit and imposed a N100,000 fine on the plaintiff, ruling that he did not deserve an adjournment.

  • Ondo State Government dispels false claims of herdsmen attack

    by

In a bid to stem the tide of rising panic, the Ondo State Government has firmly debunked a widely circulated online report that alleged armed herdsmen attacked local communities, resulting in the deaths of several farmers.

The government’s response came in the form of an official statement, signed by Chief Olugbenga Atiba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters. “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious report being circulated by some section of the online media that armed herdsmen attacked communities in Ondo state and killed some farmers,” the statement read.

It went on to declare that the report is an “absolute falsehood” a deliberate attempt by its sponsors to incite panic and disturb the peace within the state.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, whose leadership is characterized by a strong commitment to public safety, was quick to reaffirm the administration’s priority: the security of every resident, whether at home, at work, or during leisure.

The statement strongly urged those behind the misinformation to desist, warning that such actions only serve to create chaos, foster disunity, and erode the trust between the people and their government.

In closing, state officials encouraged citizens to continue with their daily activities without fear, confident in the peaceful and safe ambience that has been established across Ondo State. This decisive response not only quells the immediate concerns raised by the false report but also reinforces the state’s unwavering dedication to transparency, unity, and public security.
