    The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has expressed deep gratitude to God for His divine guidance and favour, as he prepares to officially assume office as the 7th elected Governor of the State.

    Speaking during the Inauguration Church Thanksgiving Service held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Jesus House, Oke Ijebu, Akure, on Sunday, the Governor acknowledged God’s role in shaping his political journey.

  • Tragedy: Police officer and wife fatally machete each other

    A tragic incident unfolded in the Ita Eku area of Igirigiri Road, Odo Ado, Ado-Ekiti, as residents discovered the lifeless bodies of a police officer and his wife in their home, both covered in deep wounds.

    The deceased, identified as Supol Leramo Caleb, an officer serving with the Ekiti State Police Command, reportedly engaged in a violent altercation with his wife, leading to their deaths.

    While the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, sources suggest that the couple may have attacked each other with machetes. A neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, recounted how the tragic scene was discovered after the couple’s children raised an alarm, drawing the attention of residents.

    “I was passing by when I saw people gathered, crying in shock at the sight of their lifeless bodies,” the source said.

    Another witness indicated that the dispute escalated early in the morning. “Some said the woman may have severed the man’s private part, leading to retaliation, but no one knows for sure what transpired.”

    Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, stated that an investigation had commenced to determine the actual cause of death.

    “The incident is confirmed, and investigations are ongoing to establish the details. The bodies have been deposited in the morgue,” Abutu stated in a text message.

Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice has formally taken over the case of Commissioner of Police vs. lawyer and rights activist, Wale Omolegbom Odusola currently before the Chief Magistrates’ Court of Ondo State, Akure Magisterial District.

    “Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, announced that the State Government’s decision to assume control of the prosecution aligns with its constitutional responsibility to uphold the rule of law while safeguarding citizens’ fundamental rights.

    “The Ondo State Government is fully committed to protecting free speech and ensuring that the rights of every citizen are respected.” Dr. Ajulo stated.

    The Attorney General reiterated Governor Aiyedatiwa administration’s respect for the freedom of expression, emphasizing that citizens should be free to criticize and engage constructively with government policies without fear of reprisal. At the same time, he maintained that deliberate falsehoods or defamatory statements that undermine the integrity of public office must would addressed through due legal process.

    In response to the ongoing violence in Osun State, the Nigeria Police Force has condemned, in strong terms, the incidents that have disrupted peace and safety in the state, and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. These violent actions had disrupted the peace, leading to the destruction of property, and the unfortunate loss of innocent lives.

    The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., has taken decisive action by ordering the deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State to bolster security and restore law and order.

    The Police recognizes that violence undermines the democratic process and threatens the wellbeing of the citizens, and hereby affirms its commitment to identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of these acts and caused them to face the full weight of the law.

    The IGP issues a stern warning to those who threaten the peace and stability in Osun State, as the Force will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, hooliganism and anarchy in the state. The perpetrators of these criminal acts will be fished out and be caused to face the consequences of their unwarranted ill-fated acts. Citizens must remain calm as normalcy is being restored. Osun indigenes, leaders, and stakeholders are hereby urged to shun violence and go about their legitimate businesses. The judiciary remains the ultimate arbiter of all electoral disputes and political actors must respect and abide by its rulings, upholding the rule of law and democratic principles. Citizens are advised to go about their lawful business.

  • Aiyedatiwa swears in newly elected LG chairmen, vice chairmen

    The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Monday inagurated the newly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the 18 Local Government Areas of the state, marking a significant step in restoring democratic governance at the grassroots level.

    The swearing-in ceremony, held at The Dome, Akure, followed the local government elections conducted on January 18, 2025, in which candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won across all 18 Local Government Areas and 203 Councillorship positions.

    Speaking at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of the local government system as the third tier of government, in line with Section 7(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

    He noted that the outcome of the elections reaffirmed the people’s overwhelming preference for the APC, which had previously secured a landslide victory in the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election in the State.

    “I must remind the elected Chairmen that the oath you have just taken is not a mere formality but a solemn promise to serve our people with integrity, honesty, and transparency,” the Governor stated.

    “It is a commitment to deliver on the manifesto of our party and to improve the lives of our people at the grassroots level”, he added.

    Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the new Chairmen and their deputies to align their governance with his administration’s New Development Agenda, ‘O’ Datiwa, O’ Dirorun’ (OUR EASE), which focuses on seven key pillars:
    • Order, Security, and Rule of Law
    • Urban/Rural Development via Agriculture and Blue Economy
    • Revolutionary Tech Advancement and Industrialization
    • Efficient Healthcare and Socio-Economic Welfare
    • Adequate Power and Affordable Energy

    The Governor commended the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) for conducting a peaceful, free, fair, and credible election and appreciated security agencies, election monitors, civil society organizations, and opposition parties for their roles in strengthening democracy.

    He also expressed gratitude to the outgone Transition Committee Chairmen and members for their service to the state, assuring them that their contributions would not be forgotten.

    “As we embark on this journey, let us work together to build a brighter future for our people. Side by side, we will deliver the dividends of good governance that our citizens deserve,” he added.
