Many have called on political leaders to embrace the will of the people, ensuring that the gains of democracy are not eroded by unnecessary litigations or political rivalry.

  • “Medicine After Death” – Hon. Olakanmi Olayinka

The Ondo State Social Democratic Party (SDP)  Chairman must be stuck in the past for accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of disenfranchising voters during the recently concluded governorship election in the state.

The 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, which saw His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and Dr. Adelami Olayide elected as governor and deputy governor, respectively, stands as the most peaceful, free, and fair election in the history of the state.

The baseless claims made by the SDP chairman and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate discrediting this landmark election are mere reactions to the consequences of their negligence in properly planning for the election unlike the APC.

They failed to strategize effectively—a classic case of the saying: “When you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”

As a native of Ondo East, where we have 106 polling units, I can attest that the SDP did not have agents present in all the units during the election. This can be confirmed from INEC’s official documents signed by all stakeholders. Let Gbenga Akinbuli, the SDP chairman, explain how he claims voters were disenfranchised by any party when he had no representatives in these units. The INEC guidelines are clear: everyone must remain in their assigned unit on election day. How then could he have verified such allegations? His claims are nothing but baseless blackmail against the God-chosen Governor Aiyedatiwa and the APC.

Even PDP agents in my local government conceded defeat before noon on election day, overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and willingness of the people to vote massively for the APC. The joy and determination on voters’ faces were undeniable. These are facts visible to all.

To the opposition: stop playing politics with bitterness. The results have spoken, and you have been defeated. Congratulate the winners. A party that failed to win a single local government out of 18 cannot credibly claim that the election was rigged. How? When? Where?

INEC does not issue “shameful tickets” for losers. The only return ticket available has already been given to the winners: His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and Dr. Olayide Adelami.

    E-Signed,
    Hon. Olakanmi Olayinka
