  • Guber campaign: Aiyedatiwa visits accident victims at UNIMEDTH

    inspects hospital facilities, promises improvements

    The Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday visited recuperating victims of a recent road accident at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Ondo.

    The victims, who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were involved in a car accident on their way from Ilaje local government area to Akure for the mega campaign rally of the party last week.

    The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Gbala Michael Olumide, took the Governor round to see the condition of the patients, some of who were already waiting to be discharged from the hospital.

    The patients included Oroyo Opeloye Josephine, Oroyo Tale, Odolo Omosaye and Elumalero Temidire.

    Mr. Elumalero, who later spoke on behalf of the victims, briefed the Governor on the accident and the treatments so far received, thanking him for the visit and the support given to them.

    Accompanied by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Awolowo Banji Ajaka,
    Governor Aiyedatiwa also conducted an unscheduled inspection of some of the facilities at the hospital, promising that his administration will improve the state of the hospital.

  • INEC to present certificate of return to Aiydatiwa today

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will present Certificates of Return to Ondo State Governor-elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Olayide Adelami on Wednesday.

    The presentation will take place at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, according to Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, who confirmed the development on monday.

    “The certificates of return will be presented by the commission to the governor-elect and his deputy on Wednesday,” Oyekanmi said.

    Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner of the governorship election after securing 366,781 votes to defeate the Peoples Democratic Party’s Agboola Ajayi, who garnered 117,845 votes.

    The certificate of return presentation is a statutory process marking the official conclusion of the electoral process and affirming the mandate of the elected officials.

    Aiyedatiwa is set to begin a fresh term in office, with expectations high for his administration to address critical developmental challenges in the state.

  • Submit Minimum wage proposal – Sokoto governments urges NLC

    The Sokoto State Government has taken a significant step toward implementing a new minimum wage by requesting the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to submit its proposal.

    Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir announced this development during an interaction with journalists following a meeting with the union’s executive council. He explained that the proposal would help harmonize salaries across the state’s civil service.

    This was revealed in a statement issued by Comrade Garba Mohammed, Director of Press at the Deputy Governor’s office, and shared with the media in Gusau.

    Gobir reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare through the adoption of the new minimum wage. “We are fully committed to ensuring that the workforce receives fair remuneration,” he stated.

    Meanwhile, the Sokoto NLC Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungul, urged civil servants to remain patient as preparations for the new wage implementation progress. He assured workers that the union would soon submit its proposal to the state government.

    Jungul also praised the state government’s sincere efforts toward addressing workers’ needs. “The government’s commitment is clear, and we are optimistic that the new salary scale will be implemented without delay,” he remarked.

    About 300 investors and 5000 participants are expected to grace the Global Entrepreneurship Festival, the world’s largest entrepreneurship- focused event slated for between November 22 and 24, 2024 in Ondo state.

    Summy Smart Francis, the Project Lead and Special Adviser on Entrepreneurship to the State Governor, announced this at a Press Conference in Akure ahead of the festival.

    According to the Special Adviser, Akure, the Ondo State capital, is gearing up to host the Global Entrepreneurship Festival, the world’s largest entrepreneurship-focused event.

    Speaking at the press conference on Tuesday at Revenue House, Akure, the organisers highlighted the festival’s significance, with 12 key activities planned, including a conference featuring global speakers, networking sessions, and opportunities to connect with innovators and investors.

    The Project Lead noted that the event marks a milestone as Governor Aiyedatiwa becomes the first Nigerian governor to host the festival. “This event will generate significant revenue for Ondo State and position it as a hub for entrepreneurship,” Francis said.

    Promotions for the event have reached international platforms such as Times Square in New York, alongside prominent displays in Abuja and Lagos.

    The festival is expected to attract over 10,000 participants, offering a platform for networking, innovation, and investment opportunities.

    The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, described the event as transformative, praising Governor Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and youth development.

    “This is a proud moment for Ondo State under the exceptional leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa,” Akinlosotu stated.

    Other speakers, including the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi, and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Gender, Mrs Olamide Falana, emphasised the festival’s potential to empower young people and promote gender equality.

    The Director of Business Development at ONDIPA, Femi Akarakiri, commended the governor for keeping the festival free of political undertones and noted the state’s vast potential in manufacturing and innovation. He predicted that Ondo State could become Nigeria’s economic hub within the next two decades.

    The Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, Professor Simidele Odimayo, assured attendees of comprehensive healthcare support during the event, with emergency response teams on standby.

  • Wike appoves new minimum wage for FCT workers

    The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate payment of N70,000, the new minimum wage, for all administration staff.

    The move comes after President Bola Tinubu signed the new Minimum Wage Bill into law in May 2024, following months of negotiation with organized labour.

    The approval was announced in a statement signed by Anthony Odeh, Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.

    According to the statement, Wike approved the payment of the minimum wage on Monday, November 18, 2024, to alleviate the plight of workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

    The Acting Head of Civil Service of FCT, Mrs Grace Adayilo, disclosed that the minister also approved for payment of three months’ arrears for all staff of the administration with effect from November 2024.
