  • Just In: Gunmen Hack Monarch to Death in Ondo

    There was tension in Agamo community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, following the gruesome killing of the Alagamo of Agamo, Oba Kehinde Falodun, by suspected gunmen.

    The attackers, said to be more than ten in number, reportedly stormed the monarch’s palace on Wednesday evening in what was believed to be a planned abduction.

    However, sources disclosed that the traditional ruler resisted the attempted kidnapping.

    A family source revealed that the assailants initially opened fire on the monarch. Surprisingly, the bullets were said not to have penetrated his body.

    Unable to succeed with the gunshots, the attackers allegedly resorted to another weapon, striking the monarch on the head. The severe blow reportedly led to his death.

    The monarch’s wife, who confirmed the tragic incident, stated that the attackers were speaking Hausa and reportedly approached the community through the Itaogbolu axis.

    The incident has thrown the community into mourning, with residents expressing fear and outrage over the worsening security situation in the area.

  • Ebeloku urges faith, unity as ramadan, lent begin

    The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Dr. Ademola Iyanda Ebeloku, has extended warm goodwill to members of the institution’s community on the commencement of the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent, calling for renewed faith, discipline and peaceful coexistence.

    In a message released on Wednesday, Dr. Ebeloku described Ramadan and Lent as sacred periods of reflection, sacrifice and spiritual renewal, urging both Muslim and Christian faithful to embrace the values of compassion, generosity and devotion.

    He noted that the seasons signify abstinence from vices, spiritual purification and deeper commitment to prayer and fasting, stressing that such virtues are essential in building harmony within the academic community and society at large.

    “To the Muslim faithful, as you observe the holy month of Ramadan, may this sacred period strengthen your faith and bring abundant blessings to you and your families,” the Rector said.

    “In the same vein, to our Christian faithful, as you embark on the Lenten season, may this solemn period deepen your devotion and fill your hearts with hope and grace.”

    Dr. Ebeloku emphasized that the polytechnic community, built on diversity and mutual respect, should use the period to reaffirm commitment to peaceful coexistence, moral integrity and collective progress.

    He urged staff and students to support one another and contribute positively to the growth of the institution and national development, praying for peace and renewed blessings for all.

    The Rector concluded by wishing members of the polytechnic community a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan and a grace-filled Lenten season.

  • Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji to Close 2025/2026 Admission Exercise February 15

    The Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, has announced that its admission exercise for the 2025/2026 academic session will officially close on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

    The closure affects both Full-Time and Part-Time National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes of the institution.

    The decision was reiterated at the 45th Statutory Meeting of the Academic Board held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, where members resolved that the deadline would not be extended.

    In a press release issued by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Passages, Mr. Sanmi Enigbokan, the institution advised prospective candidates to complete their registration formalities before the stipulated deadline.

    The Polytechnic emphasized that no excuse would be entertained after the expiration of the admission window.

    The management also directed all relevant organs of the Polytechnic community to comply strictly with the Academic Board’s decision and ensure that students and prospective candidates are properly guided throughout the process.

    Prospective applicants are therefore urged to take advantage of the remaining days to regularize their admission status before the February 15 deadline.

  • From Corps Member to GM: Ogunleye’s Historic Rise at OSDPC

    There was widespread jubilation as the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, confirmed the appointment of Mrs Nene Ogunleye as the substantive General Manager of the Ondo State Development and Property Corporation (OSDPC).

    Mrs Ogunleye’s confirmation, after serving for seven months in an acting capacity, makes her the first female General Manager of the corporation.

    Ogunleye began her career at the corporation as a corps member in 1999. She was named Best Corps Member during the administration of the late Ondo State Governor, Chief Adebayo Adefarati, an achievement that earned her automatic employment.

    Speaking with Newsmen, in Akure the state capital, Mrs. Ogunleye said she would pursue an inclusive style of administration.

    “I have always been a team player, right from my days as Director of Finance and Administration. As General Manager, I will strive to achieve even more by bringing out the best in staff and carrying everyone along in the administration of the corporation,” she said.

    She expressed gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for considering her worthy of the appointment as the substantive accounting officer of the corporation.

    “I also appreciate the number one civil servant in the state, Mr. Bayo Philip, for his role in my appointment. I promise to be even more diligent in the discharge of my duties,” she added.

    Ogunleye noted that she rose through the ranks from corps member to General Manager.

    “Without sounding immodest, I have served Ondo State wholeheartedly and was honoured as the best corps member, which earned me automatic employment,” she said.

    She thanked both junior and senior management staff for their support, noting the excitement surrounding her elevation from Director of Finance and Administration to General Manager.

    “I urge all staff to demonstrate greater commitment and diligence in their respective departments for the development of the corporation,” she added.

    Speaking on behalf of the staff, the Head of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Seun Komolafe, described her confirmation as historic, being the first female appointment to the position.

    He said her appointment was a case of a round peg in a round hole.

    “I thank the Ondo State Government and the Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip, for appointing an experienced administrator as the substantive General Manager of the corporation.
    “We are delighted to see her rise to this position.

    She understands the intricacies of the corporation’s operations, and we are optimistic that she will exceed expectations.

    “We monitored her performance during her tenure as Acting General Manager, and she carried everyone along in the administration of the corporation.

    Her experience will, in no small measure, help take the corporation to the next level,” he said.

    The Honourable Member representing Ilaje Constituency II at the Ondo State House of Assembly, Honourable Princess Olawumi Annah Fayemi-Obayelu, has declared her full solidarity with the people of Atijere and the entire Ilaje nation in the ongoing protest over the Eba island Oil Well, firmly affirming that the oil well rightfully belongs to Ondo State.

    Speaking in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State, the lawmaker stressed that the people of Ilaje will not, under any circumstance, surrender any portion of their ancestral land or resources to external interests.
    She emphasized that the Atijere Oil Well is historically, geographically, and legally within Ondo State, and therefore must remain so.

    Honourable Fayemi-Obayelu, while addressing concerned citizens and stakeholders, described the protest as a legitimate and peaceful expression of the people’s resolve to protect their heritage, land, and economic future.     The Ondo State Coordinator of the Tinubu/Datiwa Half-a-Million Man Walk and Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Sports, Hon.   • Ondo Police Arrest Suspected Serial Rapist, Armed Robber in Ondo

    The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial rapist and armed robber, identified as Olamipekun Elegbeleye, as part of ongoing efforts to combat sexual crimes and strengthen public safety across the state.

    The arrest was made under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, following intelligence-led operations by operatives of the Command.

    According to police sources, the suspect allegedly committed the offences on November 21, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m., when he reportedly lured a female victim onto his TVS motorcycle under the pretence of conveying her to Afunbiowo Housing Estate, Oke Aro, Akure. He was said to have diverted into a nearby bush where he allegedly raped the victim at gunpoint and dispossessed her of her valuables.

    Further investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly carried out similar attacks on four other female victims at the same location, using the same modus operandi.

    Acting on credible intelligence and technical tracking, police operatives traced and apprehended the suspect at his hideout. Items recovered from him include two SIM cards, two iPhones, a shirt, and Opay and Moniepoint ATM cards, believed to belong to his victims.

    Police investigations further established that the suspect unlawfully transferred funds from one of the victim’s bank accounts into another account. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes.

    He has since been charged to court and remanded at the Ondo State Correctional Centre, Akure, pending the conclusion of investigations and prosecution.

    The Ondo State Police Command commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his leadership and support, which the Command said have enhanced intelligence-driven policing nationwide.

    The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that perpetrators of violent and sexual crimes would be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice.
