..,…hails endorsement of new practice direction in Ondo courts
An Abuja based legal practitioner, Mr Tolu Babaleye has charged the Chief Judge of Ondo State to ensure that merit is considered in the nomination of judges for the state judiciary.
Also, Babaleye urged the Chief Judge to ensure that only corrupt free legal practitioners are nominated for the National Judicial Council (NJC) to serve as judges in the state judiciary.
This is even as he commended the Chief Judge for endorsing a new practice direction, which provides that territorial jurisdiction over criminal matters and causes shall be the court situate in the area where the crime was committed.
“This was contrary to the former position in which a crime committed, for instance, in Okitipupa, would be charged in Akure Court thereby creating serious administrative bottleneck and heavy financial burden to the parties in the suit,” he stated.
He said “I have noted the outpouring of commendations to the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Ayedun Olusegun Od, over this matter and I join the good people of Ondo State especially the lawyers practising in the criminal courts to commend the CJ for the radical step he took in this direction.
“However, I wish to specially thank and commend Alhaji Rasheed Olanrewaju Kazeem, the doyen of Akoko bar, who initiated the suit leading to this radical reformation of our Criminal Legal System and Jurisprudence in our dear Ondo State. I wish to state that he has left an indelible mark in the legal system of Ondo State.
“I commend him particularly knowing the efforts, research and money that he had invested in getting that case to the state High Court, Owo, leading to the judgment that made the CJ issue the new practice direction.
“May I also with humility commend the Judge that wrote and read the judgment that radicalized the issue at hand for his boldness, fairness and fearlessness in the delivery of the judgment like the Lord Denning, Kayode Eso and Chukwudifu Oputa of old who took many radical decisions that had brought our Legal System thus far.
“Let me also use this opportunity to reach out to the Chief Judge of Ondo State to do what is right in the ongoing appointment of more judges in Ondo State. Let the CJ jettison favouritism, look at antecedence and recommend corrupt free legal practitioners to the NJC for appointment into the judiciary of Ondo State, and above all, it should be based on merit.
“The whole world is monitoring the selection process and what it will turn out to be in the end as a corrupt free judiciary is the best foundation for an egalitarian society. Ondo State is our place of pride,” he added.
A former House of Representatives Aspirant and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State, Hon. Bisi Adanri, has called on party members and stakeholders to unite and work towards the return of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the next Governor of Ondo State in the 2024 election.
Adanri, in a statement, emphasized the need for unity and cohesion within the party, saying it is crucial for the success of the party in the forthcoming election.
She praised Aiyedatiwa’s leadership and vision, saying he has the capacity to take Ondo State to greater heights.
“Let us put aside our differences and work together to ensure the return of Aiyedatiwa and the APC to power in 2024,” Adanri urged.
“Together, we can achieve greatness for our state and our people.”
“We must not forget the achievements of our party in the last few years, and the progress we have made in developing our state. We must build on this momentum and ensure that our party continues to lead Ondo State towards a brighter future.
I urge all party members, stakeholders, and supporters to rally behind Aiyedatiwa and work tirelessly to ensure his victory in the 2024 election.
“Let us show the people of Ondo State that we are united, strong, and committed to their well-being”
Together, we can achieve great things and take Ondo State to new heights. Let us unite and work towards a common goal: the return of Aiyedatiwa and the APC to power in 2024.”

The people of Akure North Local Government Area have made a compelling case for why their local government area should produce the next representative to the House of Representatives in 2027.
The Local Government Area has been consistently marginalized in the political representation of the constituency, and they believe it is now their turn to produce the representative.
Since 1999 till date, the local government area has not produced a representative to the House of Representatives, that is over two decades. The area has produced several notable leaders who have contributed significantly to the development of the State
It is a matter of fairness, equity, and justice to give Akure North Local Government Area a chance to produce the representative, since they are a significant stakeholder in the constituency.
Akure South, since 1999 has been producing the members of the House of Representatives, 2027 is the year to right the wrongs.
The community leaders and stakeholders urged the party leadership to consider the sentiments of the people and ensure that Akure North Local Government Area produces the next representative to the House of Representatives in 2027.
“The people of Akure North Local Government Area are united in their demand for justice and fairness in the political representation of our constituency. They have been marginalized for too long, and it is time for their voices to be heard.
The contributions of Akure North Local Government Area to the growth and development of the state is enormous. They should be given the opportunity to produce the next representative to the House of Representatives in 2027.
Historical marginalization: Akure North has not produced a representative to the House of Representatives since 1999, while Akure South has consistently produced representatives.

This is a matter of justice, equity, and fairness, and we are confident that the party leadership across board will see the wisdom in the demand.
The council is willing to work with the party leadership to ensure a peaceful and democratic process, but we will not be silenced or marginalized any longer.
The time for Akure North Local Government Area to produce the next representative is now, and we will continue to make our voices heard until our demand is met.
