  • We are contributing to Football development, Says Sponsor of 2023 D’ Royal football Club competition

    The sponsor of 2023 D’ Royal Football Club (DFC) Off- Season, Mr Mathew Olaniboji has revealed that the purpose of organising the competition was to contribute to the development of football and to also discover hidden talents.

    Olaniboji stated this during the opening ceremony of the competition held at the Ondo State Sports complex,Akure the state capital.

    He said he was glad with the talent, maturity displayed by the players and their coaches.

    He reiterated that the purpose of organising the competition was to discover future talents that can make the state and the country proud.

    The sponsor said the future is bright for the outstanding players in the competition, saying football agents are watching the matches across the globe.

    “Any lucky player among them will be supported to achieve their dream of taking football as a career.”

    He adds: “I started playing from the street and I know that it’s not easy to get to the top , that is why I’m organising this competition to contribute my quota to the development of football in our state.”

    “It’s a known fact that government can’t development sports alone , so I’m using this medium to call on philanthropists and football enthusiasts to join hands with the government at all levels to develop sports”.

    Meanwhile Barrack Eagles have thrashed Victory Lions 3-1 in the opening match of D’ Royal football club (DFC) Off- season competition played at the Ondo State Sports complex, Akure.

    While Young Kings humiliated SGIC FC 5-0 in the second match of the competition.

    All the teams in the opening games of the tournament displayed good football artistry to the admiration of the spectators at the football arena.

    Barracks Eagles scored quick two goals in the first half of the encounter taking the lead going into the half time. Both sides were able to score a goal each at the resumption of the second half to end the first match 3-1 in favour of Barracks Eagles.

    Young Kings dominated both half of their match by white washing SGIC FC 5-0.

    The man of the matches in both encounter went home with cash prizes.

    The competition continue on Thursday with Ijapo Ages FC trading tackles with Weli Weli FC while FEMA FC take on CELICA FC.

  • Akeredolu embarks on medical leave — Ondo Assembly

    Ondo State House of Assembly said it has received the letter of medical leave from the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

    Speaking, Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, explained that the Governor had embarked on a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad starting from the 7th of June, 2023 to the 6th of July, 2023.

    According to the letter, the leave which commenced on June 7, extends to July 6, 2023, due to the Public Holidays on June 12(Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir(28th and 29th, June 2023)

    The Governor, who had directed his Deputy, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to act as the Governor while away, assured of his resumption on July 6, 2023.

    The Speaker had earlier described the Governor as a lover of peace and an apostle of the rule of law.

    He later wished him a speedy recovery and a joyful vacation.

    Member Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon.(Princess) Olawumi Fayemi has urged Nigeria and members of her constituency, Ilaje Constituency II, to support the spirit of democracy.

    In her statement, she described a democratic society as one that is free from oppression, victimization, and restrictions on rights and privileges, and Nigeria is seen as a democratic state.

  • Mini Stadium: Irele LG Council Boss, Ajimotokin Lays Foundation for Pavilion

    In furtherance of his commitment to constructing a Mini Stadium in Irele Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Olusegun Ajimotokin earlier today laid the foundation for the construction of the stadium Pavilion.

    Hon. Ajimotokin while addressing the engineers and workers during the laying of the foundation for the pavilion declared that the stadium is scheduled for completion in a few months while urging the engineers to redouble their efforts in ensuring the job is delivered on the scheduled period.

    The Council Helm reiterated that the stadium is aimed at boosting sports infrastructure and making training facilities more accessible to sports enthusiasts in the Local Government adding that in the coming months, the stadium would contribute significantly to the discovery of talents in sporting activities across the local government and enhance social programs, especially among the Youths. “When completed, the stadium would accommodate basketball, volleyball and tennis courts”, he stated.

    He assured that his government would continue to make judicious use of available resources in the council for the advancement of Irele Local Government and the people.

    Shortly after performing the foundation laying of the pavilion, he visited part of Bamoyegun Quarter affected by gully erosion and promised to provide the support that will cushion the threat of the gully to the people living in the area while assuring that his government will continue to liaise with the state and federal for timely intervention in all areas affected by gully erosion across the local government area.

    Using Pa Obajulaye Aka Dede as a point of contact for all landlords in the area, the chairman commended the landlords for the efforts geared towards controlling the surge of erosion in the last few years and promised prompt support.

  • Ondo Govt warns NURTW memebers against breach of public peace

    The Ondo State Government has warned against planned breach of public peace by the members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers whose operations have been suspended in the State.

    Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Commander, Amotekun Corps, Akogun Tunji Adeleye said anyone caught fomenting trouble in any park within the State will be picked and treated like a common criminal.

    Akogun Adeleye noted that the position of Government on Park Management is resolute, adding that there is no going back.

    He said:”The Parks Management Committee was set up to oversee the activities of NURTW in view of the perennial crises occasioned by some of their activities which have become a threat to public peace and safety.

    “It is shocking to note that some of the self-acclaimed Committee Members of the State NURTW forcefully opened the Igoba branch Office where any activity, to all intents and purposes, remain part of the operations suspended by Government.

    “While arrests are yet to be made, Government cannot allow such brigandage to continue unchecked. It is thus in line with the avowed commitment of the current Administration under the able leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, to ensure protection of lives and property that proactive steps would be taken to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.

    “In view of this, security agencies have been put on the alert to arrest anyone parading himself as NURTW member in Motor Parks across the State. While we urge our people to go about their daily activities as usual, we will resist any attempt by any group, under any guise, to disrupt the fragile peace that we currently enjoy in the State. We shall do this with all vigor.”

  • D’ Royal Football Club Birth 8 -Teams’ Off- Season Tournament in Akure

    Football is the best tool to unite and take youths off social vices if well package and invested on, a football enthusiast and sponsor of 2023 D’ Royal Football Club (DFC) Off Season Tournament, Mathew Olaniboji has said.

    Olaniboji stated this at the draws of the maiden edition of the competition tagged: (8- Teams Tourney) held in Akure .

    Olaniboji said he decided to organise and sponsor the competition in order to contribute to the development of grassroots football in the state, because government can’t do it alone.

    He disclosed that eight teams will be participating in the maiden edition of the competition that will kick off on Tuesday 13,this month, at the Ondo State Sports complex,Akure.

    He assured all the participating teams and officials of their safety, saying security will be provided for the competition.

    He said: “We are not envisage anything bad, but we just have to put a preventive measure in place for the safety of the officials, because football is a game of passion.”

    “I admonish all the teams to cooperate with the organisers, so that we can all achieve the set goal of contributing to the development of the round leather game in our state together”

    “Our target is to discover budding talents that cut across the nook and crannies of the state and ensure we nurture them to stardom.

    A Proprietor of one of the participating teams in the competition, Mr Ayokunle Oluwatope (Tuface) commended the organisers for deeming it fit to bring a laudable event to herald talents in the state.

    “My team is here to participate in the maiden edition of competition, and we pray for a better outing.”

    The coach of Victory Lions, Bamidele Tommasson expressed optimism that his team will host and win the competition, saying they are going for gold.

    “With the preparation on ground, I can assure you that the competition will be one of its kind in the Ondo State.”

    On his part coach of Ijapo Ages FC, Olaleke Karimu (Bora) who few months ago defended a grassroots competition they won in 2021 said his side will improve on their performance in the competition to ensure they have good outing.

    “All I can say is that we are not going to let our fans down in this competition, we will present a strong team to measure up with other teams in the contest.”

    Victory Lions will lock horns with Barracks Eagles in the opening match of the tourney, while Tubaba Football Academy tackle SGIC FC in the second match, while the Group B top seed, Ijapo Ages FC will face Weli Weli FC and FEMA FC go all out against CELICA FC in match day 2.

  • FG declares Monday Public Holiday

    The Federal Government has declared Monday, June 12, 2023 Public Holiday in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

    In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade Says
    Nigeria’s democratic journey has, like in many other climes, encountered both stormy and smooth sails, but the ship of State, it’s institutions and most importantly, the Nigerian people have remained steadfast on the tenets of democratic governance.

    He congratulate all Nigerians and urge them to continue to support and pray for the current administration to move the country to greater heights.

  • Group Urges Oyerinmade To Join Ondo Guber Race

    A Political Group, Mato Progressive Movement (MPM) has called on the former All Progressive Congress (APC) Senatorial aspirant in Ondo South Senatorial district, Honourable Mathew Oyerinmade to contest for the 2024 Governorship in Ondo State.

    The group in a statement signed by its acting state coordinator, Atanda Oladimeji, said Hon. Mathew Oyerinmade possessed all the quality needed to make Ondo State a cynosure of all eyes.

    The coordinator added that the past record of Hon. Oyerinmade was the reason they are calling on him to join the race for the plum job.

    Oladimeji added that with the current political situation in the state, Oyerinmade was the right person to take over and continue the good work of the talk and do governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

    He added that, Mathew Oyerinmade single handedly revived All Progressive Congress (APC) in the Southern Senatorial District of the state and equipped all the secretariat personally.

    He brought all the likes mind and the warring faction under one umbrella which led to the unprecedented victory recorded by the party in the district.

    “In our meeting today in Akure,the state capital we look at his records, that if he could unify all interest in the Southern Senatorial District that he would do better as the number one citizen of the state.

    “We are calling on all the good people of the state to put their weight behind his candidacy,” he said.

    Mathew Oyerinmade hailed from “Emilokan” district of Ile-Oluji/ Oke Igbo Local government of Ondo State in the Southern Senatorial District of the state.

  • Don’t create feud between the age-long relationship between the Ilaje and Owo ethnicity ~ Group Warns

    A group of youths;” Ilaje Renewed Hope Vanguard” has called on the good law-abiding citizens of Ondo state and the law enforcement agencies to caution those trying to cause disharmony between the good people of ilaje and Owo using their son, brother, uncle Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as bait, in a press statement in Igbokoda in Ilaje local government that they will resist any group without hesitation.

    According to the national coordinator in the person of comrade Ajemitale Abamiyo; the state has been enjoying relative peace and harmony under the leadership of Arakurin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu and Honorable Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as governor and deputy governor respectively.

    The Ilaje and Owo are the only ethnic group in Ondo state with a similar mother tongue, and dialect and have been cohabiting in harmony for centuries. They humbly caution any group or individuals trying to peddle rumors for cheap popularity and politics of bitterness in order to stir crisis in the state and malign the integrity of the loyal and calm deputy governor Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

  • Fayemi  condemns underage hawking, promises support for Igbokoda rape victim

    Member Ondo State House of Assembly, Ilaje constituency II, Princess Olawumi Fayemi has assured the parent of a young girl who was raped while hawking ‘puff-puff’ in Igbokoda.

    The MHA gave the assurance during her visit to the residence of the victim in Igbokoda, the headquarters of the Ilaje Local government.

    She donated monetary support to the victim and promised to do all things humanly possible to support the medical treatment of the victim.

    She said, “The welfare of the victim is also my major concern. I will do all I could, not because I’m a  Member of the House but because I am a mother”. She said.

    She added that “Maximum education support will be given to the victim” and assured her of a scholarship to further her education. The victim will be taken to Akure for further medical tests and treatment.”

    The Lawmaker who could not control her emotions condemned the act and expressed her displeasure over the incident with the level of damage caused to the victim.

    Fayemi expressed optimism that “the culprit will be charged to court without further delay” She further admonished parents not to allow their children (particularly female ones) to wander around alone to avoid similar situations.

    She finally warned parents against allowing their children of under age to hawk in the street and described this act as Child abuse and punishable by law.

    Meanwhile, the Police had confirmed the arrest of the suspect in Kebbi state.

    The suspect who committed the offense fled from the community and was later arrested in Kebbi state.

    The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Funmi Odunlami, also confirmed the arrest of the suspect, adding that he was arrested in Kebbi state and has been taken to the police headquarters in Akure for further investigation.
