A popular Ondo cleric, Samson Oluwamodede, has predicted a “boom” in the nation’s economy, saying the naira would soon regain its strength to the amazement of Nigerians.
Oluwamodede, the General Overseer of the Prayer Centre Church of God (PCCG), said the forces wrestling against the growth of the country which made the economy to plunged into a crisis will soon lose it before next year.
The Akure-based clergyman, stated this, during a Sunday service in Akure, urging Nigerians to pray fervently against ‘calamity’ in the remaining months of the year.
“How much is the dollar now? I learned our naira is now N710 to a dollar. It is that worse but I can tell you that the dollar would soon fall and it would be N10 to one dollar. The holy spirit has revealed this to me. I don’t make false prophesy, note this down.
“You remember I once prophesied that a young lady would bring out the glory of this country through a tournament in sport and that prophecy came to pass. The lady, Amusan (Tobi) is doing us proud now.
“Today, I also want you to mark my words. The dollar will fall and we would have the naira gain its strength. Like a drama, it would be shocking to Nigerians. I repeat again, we shall have (one) dollar as N10 to our currency. Our economy will boom and it would affect all the sectors which would start working again. Children of God, you have to pray tirelessly”, he said.
Oluwamodede revealed that the nation would experience a change from worse to good, particularly in its economy, saying “no one should give up yet on the current state of things in the country.”
He added that a ray of new sunshine would soon rise in the country while advising Nigerians to strengthen their faith and trust in God.
“Nigerians will not live in hunger again. I can see that and even those in power won’t be able to embezzle money. Almost everyone would be comfortable. A time is coming when our children will have jobs to do and earn living for themselves. I see a Nigeria that is working for its citizens”.
The cleric also explained that the Church of God in the country has not failed in its responsibility towards nation building, noting that Nigeria would have been worse off without prayers and contributions from religious faithful across the country.
Nigeria’s currency, Naira depreciated further last week and exchange for N730 to a U.S dollar at the parallel market.
President Muhammad Buhari has consistently be blamed for the poor management of the country’s economy with his regime harsh policies.
Bandits have attacked Pinau village, Wase local government area of Plateau State and killed about six people.
A source from the village disclosed that the bandits also stole foodstuffs from the locals in the area.
Major Ishaku Takwa, the spokesperson, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), explained that troops of the multi-security task force, maintaining peace in the state, have been sent to the village.
The source further explained that the bandits in their large number stormed the community at about 3pm, shooting sporadically to scare the people.
He said the incident occurred following the withdrawal of soldiers from the area about five days when the residents raised alarm over the development forcing hundreds of occupants to flee their homes to Wase town, the headquarters of Wase LGA.
He added, “Before the arrival of the bandits, hundreds of residents of the community have already fled because of the fear of being attacked and that is why the casualty figure is not much. Six people were killed. The bandits on their arrival asked people to remain in their rooms.” He explained that the bandits broke into shops and stole food items and other properties, stressing that they also kidnapped some people leaving a pathetic situation on the ground.
Soldiers of the Guards Brigade, Nigerian army have continued to raided forests in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Niger, Kogi and Kaduna states in search of terrorists, bandits, kidnappers taking refuge their.

So far, the source said a good number of the terrorists have been arrested and have made useful statements to intelligence officers. It was gathered that the suspect arrested revealed on their members who are Okada riders, water vendors, wheelbarrow pushers, petty traders, mobile tailors, shoe Coblers among other informants to obtain information on troops movement, security presence among others before carrying out attacks.
When contacted on the operations to flush out the criminals from the forests, the director army public relations Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, did not pick his call.
Old students of Loyola College, Ibadan, 1968/1972 set, on Saturday handed over an expansive and magnificent hall to the school management for the use of the college and the Old Boys Association.
Loyola College, Ibadan, is Governor Akeredolu alma-mater.
The Governor and his former School mates of 1968/1972 set donated the hall to the college to mark their 50 years of leaving the school and as part of their resolve to give back to their alma mater.
The magnificent Hall, named after Governor Akeredolu, was commissioned by the Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.
The Set, known as VERITA “6872”, also remodeled the frontal school fence which was commissioned by the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
Wife of the Governor, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, graced the event as well as family and friends of the Governor.
The edifice was blessed and unveiled by His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Abegunrin, the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Diocese.
Speaking at the event, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who appreciated his school mates for the honour done him, equally called on the association to sustain the good work and fellowship.
“This is my alma-mater, the school that moulded me, the school that I have all the pride in. Loyola College is everything to me. My mates and all of us sat together and decided to build this hall. And in their own wisdom, they chose to name it after me. I felt honoured. They have done so well for me and I thank them. So, today is my happiest day and I’m so happy about it,” Governor Akeredolu said.
He said without the college he would not have been something in life, describing Loyola as the best in nurturing future leaders.
The Governor also challenged students of the college to be ready to do better than the Old students.
In his welcome address, the President, Loyola College Old Boys Association (LOCOBA) 68/72 Set, Dr. Segun Oshin, said the school has produced accomplished and successful individuals across professions.
He added that the project was part of their contributions to their Alma mater and the development of education in the state.
He advised the school authority to put the edifice to good use to serve its purpose.
The President also called on the Oyo State Government to return the College to the original owners.
He added that management committee will be put in place for effective and sustainable management of the new facility.
In their separate goodwill messages, Dr Fayemi and Engr. Makinde expressed delight over the kind gesture of the Old Boys, adding that they have helped the school, the Catholic Church and the people of Oyo State at large.
Governor Fayemi appreciated the Old Boys, particularly Governor Akeredolu, for giving back to their Alma mater, urging others to emulate the gesture and play critical role in the development of education in the country.
On his part, Governor Makinde, who noted that Loyola College has always been there for him, appreciated the 68/72 Set for donating the edifice, even as he called for more assistance from old students, philanthropists and other organizations or associations to develop education.
On the return of the College to the original owners, Governor Makinde encouraged LOCOBA and the state Commissioner for Education to start the process, promising his government would do the needful.
He equally promised to fix the entrance road to the college to improve the infrastructure in the school.
The Nation President, Loyola College Old Boys’ Association, Prof Femi Ogunbiyi; the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Diocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Abegunrin, and other speakers lauded the school for its giant strides.
Richard Olatunde Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State. July 30, 2022.
Two women have been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing a baby boy in Ogun State.
The women were nabbed by men of the Ogun state Police Command on July 25.
It was gathered that one of the suspects, 53-year-old Chinyere Nwozu, was seen with the crying one week old baby at about 9 am of the said date.
As she could not breastfeed the crying baby as a mother, members of the public became suspicious and they immediately alerted the police at Sango Ota divisional headquarters.
“Upon the information, the DPO of Sango Ota, SP Dahiru Saleh, detailed his detectives to the scene where the woman was promptly arrested,” Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi said on Saturday.
According to Oyeyemi, the arrested Nwozu had confessed during interrogation that “she is not the biological mother of the child; but that she bought the child somewhere in Agege area of Lagos state through one Ngozi Akaeme at the rate of 500,000 naira.”
Upon her confession, learnt that detectives went after the said Ngozi Akaeme and got her arrested.
Akaeme reportedly told the police that she was an accomplice to Chinyere Nwozu, adding that “she actually negotiated with the biological mother of the baby who agreed to sell the baby.”
Oyeyemi said efforts to make Akaeme accompany the cops to locate where the biological mother of the baby is, proved abortive.
He explained further that the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the two suspects should be transferred to the State CIID for further investigation and possible prosecution.
It is pertinent to correct the erroneous impression and fabricated narrative in the aforesaid title by one Dr Akeredolu O.N. This response becomes imperative to place the truth in the public space before the lies travel halfway around the world.
Ostensibly, the position of the author was driven on a bitter path of a fruitless incitement. He erroneously suggested that the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration has done nothing to improve the Mother and Child hospitals in the state, develop infrastructure and judiciously use the bailout funds to offset salaries.
While it is a conceded fact that citizens are at liberty to criticise any government, it is also dignifying to do so with accurate facts and figures devoid of bitterness and lashing out of frustrations.
Let it be known that Governor Akeredolu’s commitment to the genuine development of the Sunshine state is unwavering. He has shown uncommon passion, dedication and courage to the welfare and prosperity of the people and the state.
Although, It is trite knowledge that no government anywhere in the world can claim to have done or achieved it all, Governor Akeredolu has made tremendous progress in the state’s health sector since the inception of his administration. With regards to the Mother and Child hospitals, the Akeredolu’s administration has recorded unprecedented achievements.
When this administration came on board in 2017, the maternal and child care services at the two Mother and Child hospitals in Akure and Ondo town were already suspended on account of backlog of debts already incurred on consumables, most significantly on drugs.
Imbued with inexorable determination and commitment to develop the state health sector and revive the dying Mother and Child hospitals, Governor Akeredolu expanded the special health facilities to the other two senatorial districts in the state since the two earlier established by the previous administration were concentrated in the Central Senatorial District.
On the 6th of February, 2018, Governor Akeredolu signed into Law the bill establishing the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission (ODCHC) and the Ondo State Contributory Health Scheme (ODCHS). The ODCHC has a five bespoke health insurance products for all strata of the teeming population of Ondo state under the ODCHS cover, including the Abiyamo Maternal & Child Health Insurance Scheme (AMCHIS).
The Abiyamo Maternal & Child Health Insurance Scheme (AMCHIS) is a State Equity Scheme for two sets of Vulnerables – Pregnant women and Under-5 children. This program is fully funded by the State Government.
Governor Akeredolu launched this scheme on the 3rd of December, 2019. Since the inception of the scheme, it has made provision of maternal and child care free and sustainable. It gives access to Antenatal care, delivery (including Caesarean section), post-natal care for the mother (up to 6 weeks after delivery), neonatal care (first 30 days of baby’s life) and treatment of common illnesses in children till they attain the age of five years. Beneficiaries do not pay for services.
The pre-qualification criterion to enjoy this scheme is the Kaadi Igbeayo (Ondo State Residency Card), which is issued to residents of Ondo State by the State Information Technology Agency (SITA). Governor Akeredolu has also ensured that the card is issued at NO COST to pregnant women willing to become AMCHIS beneficiaries.
It should also be known that the premium for AMCHIS is solely paid by the Ondo State Government and there is a state budgetary line yearly to this effect. Till date, AMCHIS has recorded over 22,500 beneficiaries (pregnant women and children below five years of age).
There are seven AMCHIS providers spread across the three Senatorial Districts of the state namely: Mother & Child Hospital, Akure (Central Senatorial district); UNIMEDTH (Laje, Ondo & Akure complexes) – (Central Senatorial district); General Hospital, Owo (Northern Senatorial district); State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko (Northern Senatorial district); General Hospital, Ore (Southern Senatorial district); State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa (Southern Senatorial district); and General Hospital, Igbokoda (Southern Senatorial district).
Since this scheme was launched on the 3rd of December, 2019, a total number of 24,678 including Pregnant Women and Children under 5 have benefited till date. At the Mother and Child Hospital, Akure alone, over 4,842 total number of Pregnant Women have accessed Ante-Natal Care till date with 3,432 total deliveries.
Aside service delivery, the Akeredolu administration has also embarked on Structural Expansion at the Mother and Child hospital in Akure with the construction of General Out-patients Department (GOPD) which is near completion.
As part of his determination to provide first-class health facilities for the people of the state, Governor Akeredolu took another giant leap with the ongoing construction of a modern world-class 250-bed University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital complexes in Akure and Ondo town respectively. This is aside the regular provision of medical equipment at the teaching hospital and Mother and Child hospitals.
Since the inception of his administration till date, Governor Akeredolu has recruited over 425 health workers including Consultants, Nursing officers, Staff Nurses/Midwives, Medial doctors, Pharmacists, Radiographers among others. The State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has equally recruited 804 health personnel. The UNIMEDTH wasn’t left out. Over 400 medical personnel have so far been recruited. At the Mother and Child hospital in Akure, there are 434 health workers presently working at the facility.
The puerile submission that majority of medical doctors in the state have tendered their resignation letters due to a supposed hardship from the Akeredolu’s government is not only wicked but laughable. Brain drain of nurses and doctors is a national calamity occasioned by the massive recruitment of health workers by developed countries whose health sectors have depleted in personnel due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Doctors and nurses in Nigeria are daily applying for jobs abroad, obviously in search of greener pasture, especially with the rising exchange rate.
It is equally pertinent to state that the erroneous impression being created by this Dr Akeredolu, in reference to the unsavoury perspectives that the potholes on state’s roads are indications that the Akeredolu administration has failed in the area of infrastructure, is not just juvenile but pernicious.
For the record, the Akeredolu administration has completed 274.11km of roads across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State while 120km are ongoing across the three senatorial districts. Among the completed roads awaiting commissioning are: 4.5km Agadagba Obon-New Ajapa Road in Ese-Odo Local Government Area; 10.0km Okitipupa-Igbokoda Bye pass, Okitipupa Local Government Area; 3.0km Oke Igbo Township roads, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government; 8.05km Ikaramu-Akunnu Road in Akoko Northwest Local Government Area and 1.6km Ikaro Township Road, in Ose Local Government Area.
Dr Akeredolu must be bereft of facts or deliberately suffering from selective amnesia to have questioned the use of the bailout funds received from the federal government. Governor Akeredolu inherited seven months salary arrears on assumption of office. These bailout funds were deployed to offset these backlogs.
The Labour Unions in the State have an understanding with the government to the effect that they are usually privy to the size of monthly federal allocation revenues. They sit on the table with government representatives and suggest the monthly payment template. This has helped Governor Akeredolu to defray salary arrears in the state even in the face of dwindling economic fortunes of the country.
Perhaps, it is important to note that failed desires, defeated expectations and jaundiced hope have an effective and potently irreversible way of colouring people’s perception of any system. It is safe to say that these persistent attacks could be products of any of such challenges. We call on the good people of the state to ignore these attacks that are most unlikely to cease as we progress.
Richard Olatunde Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State.
How governor Akeredolu turned the award-winning hospital into the shadow of itself
INTRODUCTION
After the demise of General Abacha, the constitutional ruling council of that era appointed the next person in the military hierarchy, Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar who was then Chief of Army staff. He became the military Head of state and ushered in this current and longest political dispensation in the history of the country. The Alliance for Democracy was one of the political parties and it held sway in the six states of Southwest Nigeria. The elected chief executive officer of Ondo state between 1999 to 2003, H.E. Adebayo Adefarati, an Akoko man, Akungba to be precise, implemented all the cardinal programs of his party, including free education, free health, and others.
Also, Chief Olusegun Agagu who defeated the incumbent governor in 2003 and governed the state under the platform of PDP, reigned in the state for six years. Though there were no clear-cut programs for PDP governors, he (Agagu) did a lot of projects for the people of the state, and Ondo indigenes benefitted from his free health scheme. He employed a lot of health personnel and the state was prosperous in all ramifications. He lost his second term ticket to Dr Mimiko’s labour party through the Court of appeal’s judgement which brought in governor Mimiko’s administration in 2009.
The arrival of Iroko of Ondo state politics in the affairs of the state was new dawn as many agendas were implemented, Other social welfare packages were also done by this former governor of the state. For knowledge’s sake, Dr Olusegun Mimiko started his political struggle during Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s UPN era between 1979 to 1983. He served in various capacities at the students union’s association of the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state during his medical training on the most beautiful campus in Africa. He later served as commissioner for the health of Evang. Olumilua and Chief Adebayo Adefarati’s administrations. He also served as secretary to the state government and minister of the federal government under PDP between 2003 to 2007.
MOTHER AND CHILD HOSPITAL
One of the laudable programs of Dr Mimiko’s administration is the Mother and Child Hospital, firstly in Akure and later in Ondo town. The concept of the project is to have free child deliveries for all pregnant women in Ondo state by all means. This scheme from Ondo town-born medical doctor turned politician changed the health narratives of the sunshine state. The lives of many pregnant women were saved through free caesarian sections, and maternal and infant mortality rates were significantly reduced. This caught the attention of the World Health Organization which came to the state on several occasions to have first-hand inspections and gave several awards to our amiable governor then.
When the Dr Mimiko-led administration noticed how people celebrated the health policy and its overwhelming acceptance from all and sundry, he extended the program to Ondo town i.e his home town. A lot of medical consultants were employed in Ondo state civil service, the number of health personnel grew drastically and the state health sector was in a robust and effective form. People were coming from all states in Nigeria to access free child deliveries and caesarian sections. The medical doctors and nurses at the two mother and child hospitals were always overworked themselves because of the traffic of patients at these centres.
This cherished scheme has nosedived into a shadow of its old self. Any pregnant patient who needs a caesarian section in Ondo state will pay hugely for this. The people of the state are only nostalgic for the Ondo state of Iroko’s era. The soaring number of medical doctors has significantly reduced because the majority of them have tendered their resignation letters due to present hardship from the Aketi-led government. Today, the Hippocratic brothers are just above a hundred from the initial over five hundred before the inception of Arakunrin’s administration. The government of Dr Mimiko started messing up when he failed to pay the state servants when due towards the tail end of his governance, finally bequeathed seven months salary arrears to Aketi which Dr Mimiko and his colleagues in other states blamed this inability to pay civil servants on the economic meltdown of President Jonathan’s period.
IN CONCLUSION
Since the inception of Aketi as governor of Ondo state almost six years ago, several bailouts were given to him by President Muhammed Buhari-led federal government to settle outstanding salary arrears. The latest outburst from Mr Lai Muhammed, the current minister of information said that governors who are still owing state civil servants should be asked what they did with bailouts collected by them. The governor of Ondo state, Mr Akeredolu Oluwarotimi SAN is not only owing Ondo state workers but all the sectors of Ondo state economy have collapsed under the watch of our Arakunrin.
The recent courtesy visit to the commissioner for works, Engineer Raheem Aminu, by newly elected officers of the National union of journalists, Ondo state chapter, under the leadership of Prince Leke Adegbite in which the issue of unprecedented potholes on roads in the state capital was raised by these great journalists, is a testimony of current bad governance of Aketi in the sunshine state. The ever-burbling Mother and Child Hospitals in Akure and Ondo town have turned into ghost towns being deserted by all, courtesy of Governor Akeredolu.
Dr. Akeredolu O.N. Leader, Aketi Medical Team, 2016, Vice Chairman, Aketi-Aiyedatiwa Medical Committee, 2020
One of the banes of governance in Nigeria is the level of insincerity among our leaders. We have a lot of problems in Nigeria due to failure in leadership and irresponsible followers of this great country. The governance in Ondo state has been relegated to a pitiable status. Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN who assumed the leadership role in the sunshine state for almost six years has bastardized all sectors of the economy beyond reasonable measure.
The hardship currently witnessed in Ondo state hasn’t been in existence since its creation in 1976. The opposition party has on several occasions accused Mr Governor of running the state like family affairs in which Aketi’s government has been termed trinity government of father, his son, and his wife i.e Aketi himself, his son, Babajide Akeredolu and his wife, Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu decide who gets what in the state.
The various associations of the Nigerian University system have embarked on industrial actions for almost five months, thereby collapsing all activities in our public universities. Several efforts from all and sundry to resolve the industrial disagreement between these esteemed associations and the Nigerian government have proven abortive. The recent solidarity support from the Nigeria Labour Congress with nationwide protests to force the impervious government of President Muhammed Buhari to yield to their agitations, took another dimension in Ondo state when governor Akeredolu tried to play to the gallery.
As usual, Arakunrin of Ondo state quickly condemned the prolonged strike action and its effects on the future of our youths of the nation, this statement was made through his special adviser on civil service matters, Mr Dare Araigbaye who represented Aketi to address the protesting universities workers.
HOW SINCERE IS GOV. AKEREDOLU?
Ondo state has been known for the unquestionable values we placed on education since the days of the Western region. The education policies of Action Group, the first political party of Chief Obafemi Awolowo were formulated by Pa. Adekunle Ajasin who became the vice chairman of the party and served in the national parliament in the pre and early post-independent era.
When this Owo-born political leader finally became the governor of the old Ondo state (Ondo and Ekiti state), he established many schools including technical schools, and Ondo state polytechnic (now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic) Owo, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ado Ekiti (now Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti). He (Ajasin) had a bad political relationship with the Alhaji Shehu Shagari-led NPN government of his days but never allowed it to affect his life-touching programs for the people of Ondo state despite the meagre resources at the disposal of this great political sage.
Today, the reverse is the case in Ondo state, Arakunrin started his misrules by increasing the school fees of state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko. Many students were said to have dropped out of this school due to this Aketi’s insensitive action. As expected, the students protested, but Mr governor never gave a damn. He also increased the school fees of other state-owned higher institutions in Ondo state.
All the members of staff of Ondo state-owned higher institutions recently released a communique in which Gov. Akeredolu was alleged to have turned all of them into beggars i.e pauperized them, because of irregular payment of their salaries. To support the claims of these workers, one of the legacies of Pa. Adekunle Ajasin in Aketi’s hometown, Owo i.e the state-owned polytechnic (Rufus Giwa polytechnic), its members of staff are currently being owed more than 12 months salary arrears.
IN CONCLUSION
I don’t want to bore my teeming literate audience who have taken their precious time out to read my articles, I promise to write on the failure of the education sector under the watch of Aketi in one of my subsequent write-ups. For governor Aketi who has failed in virtually all sectors of the economy in Ondo state to be solidarizing with labour unions on ASUU’s strike is nothing but a deception of the highest order from the Arakunrin. Until our leaders start to be sincere with themselves and the citizens of this great nation, we will continue to have bad governance like this current one of Aketi in Ondo state.
If no one has ever told Aketi before, I should use this opportunity to tell Arakunrin that governance hasn’t been this bad in the state. Nobody is enjoying the state except himself and his beloved immediate family members.
