OAUSTECH, protest against robbery, rape

Students of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, OAUSTECH, Okitipupa have called on well-meaning people in the neighborhood to come to their rescue over incessant robbery and rape of students on campus and hostels.

The students staged a peaceful protest over incessant robbery, molestation of their female students by hoodlums, threatening students with charms at night.

According to the President of the Students Union Government of the school, Damilola Okunomo, while speaking with our correspondent, condemned the rate at which armed hoodlums invade the institution at night, and rape the females.

Okunomo, called Obas, Council boss, parents, and all meaningful people in the community to come to their aid.

“We cannot continue living in panic on campus. We are here to learn and to be educated which can only be achieved in a conducive environment”.

“These people came to our hostels, attacked us with guns, cutlasses, whether we are in academic session or not, they carted away, our shoes, clothes, phones, televisions among other belongings.

“Our lives are at stake because they come with arms and rape”, Okunomo said.
He, however, advised his colleagues to be security conscious on campus, stop showing off especially those with iPhones, “keep your belongings to yourselves to avoid being trailed by those miscreants. Not everyone is happy with whatsoever you have.”

While addressing the protesters, one of the elders in the community who does not want his name mentioned, commended the students for making the protest a peaceful one.
“You have taken the right step by this protest, meanwhile, effort has been put in place to get all these bad eggs off the community.

“Sometimes ago, I categorically arrested some set of gangs who invaded your hostel when the institution was on break and handed them over to the police with the recovering items. I was the person who called the students to go for their missing item at the police station, and since then, we elders have not relented our effort.
“We are meeting with the school management and security agencies where we will discuss vehemently the security issues,” he said.
