Press Week: Journalists Beat Ondo Lawmakers In a Novelty Match

In continuation of the 2021 Press Week Celebration, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly on Thursday suffered 2-1 defeat in a Novelty football match against members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The match played at Akure township Stadium attracted over twenty lawmakers captained by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun while the journalists were led by the NUJ State Chairman, Adetona Aderoboye.

The NUJ team scored one goal in the first half of the match that lasted 60minutes while the lawmakers were awarded a penalty to equalise after the Speaker was fouled inside the box 18.

However, the men of the pen profession rallied to score the winning goal.

Speaking after the match, Oleyelogun congratulated NUJ members over their Press Week celebrations and the victory recorded during the match.

The Speaker tasked members of the public to embrace regular exercise to boost their health status.

Also speaking, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Youths and Sports Development, Hon Olugbenga Omole said the relationship between the Ondo State journalists a d Lawmakers would be sustained, advocating that such friendly match will be more regular.

In an interview, the Ondo NUJ Chairman expressed joy his team beat the lawmakers, adding that the match was part of strategies to consolidate and boost health status of members.
