A middle-aged Pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Idahun, Oba-Ile, Akure, Pastor George Olusanya Omoolorun who shot a deer has been reported dead.
It was gathered that the Pastor shot the dear and his gun reportedly backfired killing him instantly.
The Pastor was in the habit of hunting wild animals until he met his untimely death during the hunting expedition last Sunday at Apeju Street, Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State.
It was learned that the deer had “Ifa” inscriptions on its body which according to eyewitnesses, the hunter shot at but backfired, leading to his death.
The deceased who hailed from Ijan-Ekiti was said to have been in the hunting business for 26 years.
The 60-year-old father of four was said to have left his home for his farm around Airport road, Akure in his car where he normally hunts for bush meat.
He was said to have left his car at the entrance of the farm before embarking on the hunting expedition.
According to a family source who pleaded anonymity, he said when the wife of the deceased realized her husband did not return home on a faithful day, she became worried. She puts a call to him but his phone was ringing without any response.
“The wife became afraid and called the deceased’s sister and some other neighbors who embarked on a search for him.
“By the time they got to the farm, they met him lying helpless on the ground with the mysterious deer, standing by his side.
“They met him in the bush with his hand held onto his body where he sustained a bullet wound.
“They met the deer beside the hunter unhurt but was caught when it tried to escape. They discovered Ifa inscriptions on the deer.”
The source said they later tied the deer and took it to Oba Ile Police station.
It was learned that the deer later died at the police station.
Police sources at Oba-Ile Police Division confirmed the report.
All attempts to speak with the wife of the deceased proved abortive as she and the entire family who were still in shock over the incident could not comment due to the loss of their breadwinner.
The Pastor’s remains will be buried at his Ijan-Ekiti country home today while a Christian wake was held yesterday at his Oba-Ile residence.
