Ode Irele community celebrates Ore Festival

as LG boss harps on peaceful conduct

Ode Irele, in Irele local government of Ondo state celebrated Ore Festival amidst jubilations.

Ore festival is an annual festival in the local government which marks the end of the planting season and the beginning of another season of harvest.

“It preludes to the consumption of new yam and the implication of this is that nobody in the town can make a meal out of New Yam or even bring new yam to the community until this festival is consummated”.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman, of Irele Local Government, Mr Olusegun Ajimotokin, urged the indigenes of Ode Irele Community to celebrate the Ore festival with caution to sustain the peace and tranquillity in the community.

Ajimotokin while speaking with newsmen through his Chief Press Secretary Mr. Victor Adedeji congratulated sons and daughters of Ode Irele Community both home and in the diaspora on this year’s edition of the Ore festival.

He emphasized that the essence of the celebration of the Ore festival apart from marking the end of the planting season and the beginning of another season of harvest, is an opportunity to pray for the growth and peace of the community adding that efforts of traditional leaders as well as the indigenes should be intensified more on prayers

He therefore, urged the good people of Irele Community particularly the youths to have a reflection on how the festival has been celebrated from time immemorial and take caution in the manner and behaviour in which they demonstrate on one another as they celebrate the festival

The Chairman also advised the traditional stewards and the entire indigenes to put today’s festival in praying for the growth and stability and progress of the Ode Irele Community.

The Council Boss urged the traditional leaders in the community to take decisive steps in harmonizing their interests and swing into action as earlier advised to proffer long-lasting solutions to Olofun stool.

Ajimotokin prayed that the 2023 Ore festival shall usher in manifold blessings to Irele Community and all her inhabitants both home and abroad.

He assured residents of Ode Irele Community that the authority of Irele Local Government Council has put in place security measures that will regulate the conduct of the people before, during and after the festival.

Meanwhile the Chairman as part of his preparation towards the festival met with Heads of Ruling Houses, High Chiefs, Chiefs, heads of the Quarters, representatives of Irele Progressives Union (IPU), representatives of the youths, security operatives, Drivers and Okada union among other stakeholders to appeal and reconcile the stakeholders to ensure peaceful celebrations on the Ore festival and the stakeholders at the meeting agreed unanimously to demonstrate peaceful conduct during and after the festival.

The Council Boss equally intimated the stakeholders on the letter directed to the office of Irele Local Government Chairman by the Ondo State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs on the position of the State Government regarding the traditional head of Ode Irele Community.
