Saudi Arabia declares Sunday as Eid-el-Fitr celebration

Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the crescent of Shawwal has been sighted, confirming that Eid-el-Fitr will be observed on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The announcement, made on Saturday through the official Facebook page of Haramain, a recognised platform for the global Muslim community, signalled the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

“The crescent moon for the month of Shawwal 1446 was sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

“May Allāh accept our siyām, qiyām & a’māl & may He allow us to witness many more Ramadāns in good health. Āmīn,” the statement read.

Eid-el-Fitr marks the conclusion of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting, and is observed by Muslims worldwide with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.

As is tradition, Muslims in Nigeria will await the official directive from the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on the conclusion of Ramadan before proceeding with the celebration.

Meanwhile, security agencies and religious bodies have begun preparations to ensure a hitch-free celebration across the country.
