The Ondo State Government has introduced new traffic regulations along the Arakale axis of Akure, restricting U-turns at Ori Eguru Junction and setting designated hours for truck loading and off-loading to reduce congestion.
The new directives, announced by the State Ministry of Transport, require motorists travelling from the Isikan axis towards Arakale to stop making U-turns at Ori Eguru Junction and proceed to Aromed Junction to do so.
The ministry said the measure was aimed at reducing conflicting vehicle movements, preventing traffic obstruction and improving the smooth flow of vehicles along the busy corridor.
Under the new regulations, truck operators and businesses along the Arakale axis are also required to restrict loading and off-loading activities to approved periods.
The designated hours are between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in the morning, and from 5:00 p.m. until dawn.
Loading and off-loading outside these periods are prohibited under the new order.
To ensure compliance, the government has deployed State Traffic Control (STC) officers along the route to regulate traffic, monitor adherence to the directives and facilitate the orderly movement of vehicles.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Hon. Olumuyiwa Ogunyemi ÈYÍYÀTÒ, urged motorists, commercial drivers, truck operators, transport unions, shop owners and other road users to comply with the new regulations.
He warned that violations could attract appropriate enforcement action and penalties in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The ministry said the measures formed part of the government’s efforts under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to improve road safety, ease traffic congestion and strengthen traffic management across the state.
It called on residents and business operators along the Arakale corridor to cooperate with traffic officers to ensure the successful implementation of the new order.
