  • IT HAS BECOME A CURSE TO BE A CIVIL SERVANT IN ONDO STATE……… Dr. Akeredolu O.N

like the former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, Ondo state civil servants and pensioners are in pain, courtesy of Aketi

    INTRODUCTION

The current Alani of Idoani, Major Gen. Olufemi Olutoye (Rtd), said in one of his interviews that he refused to participate in the first coup in Nigeria because of the value he has for humanity. When late Major Kaduna Ezegwu complained about the excesses of the politicians of the first republic during their military course in India, he preempted he was planning to destabilize the first democracy. Though he initially shared in Major Kaduna Ezegwu’s idea of sanity in political space and that Chief Obafemi Awolowo was unjustly detained, who should also be the prime minister then, he finally opted out when Major Kaduna Ezegwu told him that Nigerians would be unavoidably killed in course of the coup.

Gen. Olufemi Olutoye Rtd believed that he was in Nigerian Army to protect Nigerians and not to kill any Nigerian. Considering the background of this retired army top-notch, being a son of an Anglican priest with a Godly upbringing, he cherished the lives of Nigerians. This may explain the grace of longevity in his life and why his children are doing well both at home and abroad. In the same vein, Gov. Akeredolu Oluwarotimi SAN, who is also a son of an Anglican priest should be a succor to the people of Ondo State but the reverse is the current situation of things in the sunshine state. The state civil servants and pensioners are in pain due to hardship they never bargained for, because of several months of unpaid salaries.

I often imagine how they have been coping without salaries of, at least, five months in the twelve months calendar year of 2022. As much I won’t want to discuss the suffering politicians, mostly APC members who have been conquered by governor Akeredolu turned oppressor. We have the consolation that these politicians got their money during primary elections in which they would go for the highest bidders but these civil servants can’t be blamed for their current predicaments and pensioners who are currently helpless, many of them have died because of unpaid allowances. It’s like the governor of the state derives pleasure in the current suffering and smiling status of his citizens, otherwise, he would prioritize the salaries of the civil servants which indirectly controls the economy of the state.

SOME CIVIL SERVANTS WHO WON’T FORGIVE AKETI

All the civil servants in the state are indeed battered by the government of Arakunrin but some of them are worse hit by Aketi’s abysmal style of governance.

Rufus Giwa polytechnic, Owo’s members of staff

The teaching and non-teaching members of this higher institution of learning can’t forget the hardship they have gone through at the hands of Aketi. The surprising thing is that the Polytechnic was established by an Owo man, Pa. Adekunle Michael Ajasin, sited in Owo in Ondo state, the home town of Gov. Akeredolu. If you care to know, it’s the oldest state-owned higher institution. Apart from the fact that Arakunrin is the only governor who hasn’t established any institution of learning, unlike Chief Adebayo Adefarati who established Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, also, Late Dr. Olusegun Agagu established state-owned University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa being named after him.

In the same vein, the immediate past governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, being a medical doctor, established the University of Medical Science, Ondo. Nobody says Aketi must follow suit by establishing a University, mostly when he (Aketi) is claiming that Ondo State is financially broke, he is supposed to keep alive the only state-owned institution in his town rather than the present state of comatose. The members of staff are owed almost a year of salary arrears. It’s only a wicked man who could do this or how would a reasonable leader expect people to survive without twelve months’ calendar year salaries?

There were over five hundred medical doctors in the state civil service before the advent of Aketi’s administration but they have significantly reduced to just above a hundred. The remaining ones are those who couldn’t leave because of their levels, they can’t afford to start afresh. In a nutshell, the health sector has collapsed in the state, courtesy of Arakunrin. Likewise, the teachers who believed not to see the bad days of Gen. Abacha’s regime again, are currently facing a worse situation. Despite that the present administration hasn’t employed more hands to relieve the teaching services which are significantly short-staffed, it has further exposed them to ridicule and extorsion by inhumane policy from Aketi. Time will fail me to go into details of everything, the summary is this, we have never had this bad in Ondo state.

    IN CONCLUSION

There is no respite in sight with Aketi’s government for civil servants in Ondo state. A government that unprecedentedly generated over 31 billion last year as IGR and preferred to spend it on roads and white elephant projects is an anti-people government. The labour union leaders who should fight for them have been compromised.

Nevertheless, Ondo State people are prayerful people, God who handled Gen. Abacha for suffering Nigerians then, he’s still on the throne. Our people should not fail to pray to God, he knows how to deal with a wicked leader. The civil servants received January salary in June 2022, it’s crystal clear that the current governor is clueless and has no regard for the welfare of his citizens. Definitely, we have another man who is worse than Gen. Abacha, leading us as the incumbent governor in Ondo State.

  • Owo attack: “If perpetrators are not brought to book, people will continually live in fear” – Owolemi

    by

The Publicity Secretary, Ilaje Leadership Forum, (citizens security council) Prince Emorioloye Owolemi has said if the perpetrators of Owo attack are not brought to book, the people will continually live in fear.

Owolemi stated this while reacting to security issue in the state over the recent Owo attack which has brought more fears to the citizens.

He also appealed to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and all security heads to urgently act to unravel the circumstances of the killings in Owo, Ondo state.

Investigation had shown that residents now live in panic as some had closed their shops, and businesses earlier due to the security threat.

Many were also reported to have abstained from church vigils, club houses among others.

“It is no doubt that Owo-church attack has created more fear in the people of the state, as place of worship that used to be sacred had become a dread zone.” He revealed.

According to the Publicity Secretary, the Owo-church attack is a threat to the lives of citizens of the state and the nation at large.

“The sad event happened without a singular apprehension of the terrorists, even in Ondo state known despite being know for it’s stauch indigenous security surviaillance- Amotekun.” He said

He also lamented that everywhere and everyone in the state now live with their hearts in their mouths as going to religious houses is now with caution even because the hoodlums are yet to be apprehended.

And commenting on the mass burial he revealed the weight it has brought on the state to tighten its security and hastenly bring these perpetrators to book.

“The victims were buried amongst fears and deep sorrow, to the extent that it brought out tears from the Governor and his wife which symbolised supreme signs that the entire state is totally in disarray over the killings of worshipers in the church of God.” Owolemi emphasised.

  • ASIWAJU WILL WIN MASSIVELY IN ONDO STATE DESPITE AKETI’S MISRULE…… Dr. Akeredolu O.N

Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign should be run independently of Gov. Akeredolu of Ondo state, Otherwise, he will serve as a Jonah in the boat of Asiwaju’s victory come 2023

    INTRODUCTION

Using the word “misrule” to describe the governance of Arakunrin in Ondo state is an understatement. It’s obvious that he lacks the necessary political and administrative acumen to successfully steer the affairs of the ruling party vis-a-vis Ondo state in general at a time like this. I have often pointed his attention to most of his flaws but his political sycophants believed that I was just ranting because I was not compensated for my sacrifices for him and the party. I was recently vindicated when a Professor criticized him( Aketi) in an article that went viral for his inhumane policy against the teachers of the sunshine state.

It’s obvious that Mr. governor never prepared for this present moment of his life. No doubt, he remains one of the luckiest politicians in Nigeria, in critical analysis, I find it difficult to know the luckier person between him and his age-long friend and immediate past governor of the Ondo state, Dr Rahman Olusegun Mimiko. As we all know that politics is like a game of ludo, you need the luck to have high numbers and you must also have the good sense to count your numbers, otherwise, they will become burdens and you will eventually lose out.

Since the beginning of Aketi’s government almost six years ago, the state chapter of APC has been riddled with a lot of crises, many of the leaders who laboured for the party in the state while Aketi was busy with his legal practice in Ibadan, Oyo state, have been relegated to the back. Some of them are only waiting, enduring and wishing for the expiration of his regime. For example, you will hardly hear anything from Chief Jamiu Ekungba, Chief Awodeyi Apata and many others, despite they were co- aspirants with Aketi, respected leaders and from the same town, Owo.

It’s no longer news that President Muhammed Buhari of APC lost the state to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of PDP in the general presidential election of 2019 because of the AA saga, orchestrated by Aketi and Mr Ade Adetimehin (APC state chairman). He, Mr Ade Adetimehin remains the first state chairman to openly campaign for candidates of another party in a competitive election against his party and continues with the party as the state chairman. At the end of everything, they weren’t bold enough to take the blame for the woeful performance of the party but rather used erstwhile deputy governor, H.E. Agboola Alfred Ajayi as a scapegoat.

The son of the governor of Ondo State, Mr Babajide Akeredolu is the defacto unofficial prime minister of Ondo state, he oversees a lucrative agency in his father’s cabinet. Arakunrin had earlier justified his appointment that he laboured for him during the campaigns but forgot thousand of people who worked more than his beloved son whose Aketi has neglected. Most of the board of parastatals are not constituted, the state workforce received January salary in the middle of the year 2022, and the few appointees in the state are also not paid. Generally, the untold hardship currently in Ondo state has never been experienced, even during Abacha’s government.

WHY ASIWAJU WILL WIN IN ONDO STATE MASSIVELY

Ondo state is a progressive state, from the history of Action Group, the first political party of Yoruba race which was formed at the house of former Olowo of Owo, late Sir. Olateru Olagbegi. The late famous king was an Awoist( a supporter of Chief Obafemi Awolowo) to the core before the Action Group’s crisis started and the duo parted ways. Also, they voted massively for Chief M.K.O Abiola of SDP against Alhaji Bashir Tofa of NRC in the popular ill-fated June 12, 1993 transition program. During the 1998/1999 general election, Ondo state supported Yoruba agenda of AD in which most of the candidates of the progressive party won in the state. In 2003, when Yoruba decided to support Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s second term bid, he defeated president Muhammed Buhari of ANPP in the sunshine state.

Ondo state people aligned with the rejuvenation of progressive party being championed by Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, after a colossal loss of 2003 general elections which only Lagos State survived but other five states of Southwest Nigeria were consumed in a political tsunami of PDP. This was achieved via Dr Mimiko’s labour party which benefitted from Asiwaju’s support to displace the PDP of late Dr Olusegun Agagu by the Appeal court judgement. Although, the Iroko of Ondo state politics later betrayed his benefactor (Tinubu), that may explain why he has been finding it so hard politically since he left the Alagbaka government house in 2017, after his (Dr Mimiko’s) unprecedented record of two terms governor of the state.

In 2015, APC clinched two Senatorial districts of the state, Chief Tayo Alasoadura emerged in Ondo central while Professor Robert Boroffice won Ondo North as a ranking senator and many candidates of the House of Representatives defeated their opponents in PDP, represented their constituencies in the green chamber. Our people also voted for APC in governorship elections that produced Aketi twice, both in 2016 and 2020. We are not bastards, we have our roots with both Oduduwa as an ancestor and the progressive party of Action Group. Definitely, Mr Peter Obi of the Labour party and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of PDP will be defeated by Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu of APC come 2023.

Our Sunshine State has enjoyed a lot from Asiwaju’s benevolence, many of its indigenes served in Asiwaju’s cabinet when he was governor of Lagos state between 1999 to 2007. Some of them like Dr Jibayo Adeyeye, Hon. (Mrs) Wunmi Olatunji, Hon Ajata and many others served in elective capacities since the inception of this democratic dispensation in far away centre of excellence. This is a payback time for Jagaban of Borgu for promoting Ondo indigenes. We are not ingrates, we are going to vote massively for him (Tinubu). We won’t consider Aketi’s misrule in the state, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu is different from Arakunrin Akeredolu and the upcoming presidential election will be treated as such by the good people of Ondo state.

    IN CONCLUSION

If there is a free and fair election today, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN can’t deliver his local government, Owo LGA for APC because of his abysmal style of governance. It’s crystal clear that the current governor of Ondo State has failed woefully, both politicians and civil servants in terms of good governance but this will not affect the chance of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu to win massively across the state as many of his (Asiwaju’s) groups are working tirelessly to ensure uncommon victory for him come 2023.

The presidential campaign should be run independently of Mr. governor because Aketi may serve as a Jonah in the boat of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu’s victory come 2023. It’s time for Emilokan of Ondo state, Emilokan of Yoruba, Emilokan of APC and Emilokan of Nigeria. With Asiwaju’s mandate, we stand in Ondo state.

  • Tragedy in Ondo as Flood sweeps away Secondary School Student

    by

A Junior Secondary School (JSS) student of Mount Carmel Girls’ Secondary School, Ikare- Akoko, was on Tuesday reported swept away by a flood around River Dada, in the Semusemu area of the ancient town.

The student, simply identified as Motunrayo, was said to have fallen victim to the unfortunate incident on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after leaving the school premises.

It was gathered that she was playing in the rain and was using her legs to measure the depth of the flood while going home when she got swept away.

An eyewitness account stated that the victim was taken off balance and before help could reach her, the flood had taken her away.

The eyewitness disclosed that she was swept directly into the popular, but notorious River Dada around the Semusemu area of Ikare town.

Confirming the sad incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ikare-Akoko Police Division, Superintendent of Police (SP) Olatujoye Akinwande, said the matter was reported by the Principal of Mount Carmel Girls’ Secondary School, Mrs Ajoke Asiwaju.

The DPO revealed that the search and rescue operation for the young girl had since commenced.

Akinwande, however, used the opportunity to advise parents to caution their children against playing with erosion wherever they are.

  • Insecurity: We need International support to fight terrorism – Gov. Akeredolu

    by

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN,has appealed to the international community to help Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.

Governor Akeredolu noted that the country must now accept that it is dealing with terrorism, adding that the June 5th attack in Owo was perpetrated by terrorists.

The Governor spoke on Monday while receiving members of Council of the All Saints Church, Jericho, Ibadan who came on a condolence visit to the Governor. The team was led by chairman of Council, Dr. Onnuola Adewunmi.

He said:”We have terrorists in Nigeria. We need the world to assist Nigeria. If Nigeria doesn’t want it, Ondo State wants it. They still attacked somewhere in Ogun State recently.  There are terrorists lurking in our forests.”

Governor Akeredolu, who also disclosed that the time is ripe for the people to be trained on basic civil-defense, reiterated that the people must be prepared.

The Governor harped on the need for Churches to install CCTV as part of the security measures to prevent reoccurrence of the Owo terror attack.

Arakunrin Akeredolu thanked members of his Church for deeming it fit to pay the state a condolence visit all the way from Ibadan.

“I belong to a church that I am very proud of. And that church deemed it fit at this time in our state to pay a condolence visit. I thank you”, the Governor said.

Earlier, the chairman of Council, Dr. Onnuola Adewunmi, who commiserated with the Governor and the poeple of the state in general over the Owo massacre, assured that the church would intensify prayers for the state.

“Sir, you could trust that your church has always been praying for you. You could trust that your church has always supported you in prayers on numerous occasions. This one really overwhelmed us, that such a heinous crime could be committed in our land”, he added.

He prayed for improved security in the country and restoration of the lost values in the land.

The team also presented a token for the victims of the Owo terror attack and prayed against such calamity in the state.

  • Ondo PDP Insensitive, Dancing On The Graves Of Victims Of Owo Terror Attack

    Press Statement

The statement supposedly made by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in respect of the remarks made by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, at the funeral mass for the slain victims of Owo terror attack did not come as a surprise to the Ondo State Government.

The assertion credited to the opposition shows its lack of empathy and respect for humanity. It is an unnecessary gloat that greatly offends the collective psyche of the people of the state.

The PDP, which obviously doesn’t know the limits of politics, is attempting to reap political capital at the expense of human lives. It is politics taken too far.

Since the unfortunate incident of Owo attack, the people of the state and across the country have collectively mourned the departed while praying for the injured to heal fast.

It is very sad that the PDP, in its characteristic manner, has shown that it places politics above human lives. At this time when the state is still struggling with the pains of the heinous attack, the opposition party has found it convenient to scoop political gains from the excruciating pains inflicted on humanity by the incident.

As we speak, the tombs of the deceased are even yet to dry, but the PDP couldn’t wait to dance on their graves. This infantile and inhumane brand of politics depicts what the party stands for.

For the records, let it be known that Governor Akeredolu’s remark at the burial mass for the slain victims of Owo attack last Friday was a sober reflection of the overwhelming security situation in the country. It was a projection of the helpless situation the sub-nationals have found themselves under the government at the centre in a federation.

The Governor’s remark was targeted at the need for the country to retrace its steps and adopt true federalism which encourages state police. This was a call that had been made even since the era of the PDP-led administration at the centre.

It is also a general knowledge that what has come to stay as terrorism in Nigeria today started under the PDP administration. The PDP in Ondo State must have forgotten that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

Nevertheless, we are not prepared to join issues with the PDP over this matter. The lives of the slain victims are too important to us to trivialise in the public space. Besides, government is pre-occupied with deepening efforts at ensuring that those receiving medical care at the various hospitals are well catered for.

As the Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Bishop Jude Arogundade alluded, Governor Akeredolu’s determination to secure the lives and property of his people can not be questioned. He has shown unbridled commitment to security with courage and sincerity.

It is unfortunate that the PDP would refer to the issue of workers’ salary as a way of portraying failure in government. Indeed, selective amnesia is the hallmark of a bad political culture.

The same opposition party who left government with an unpaid seven months salaries is now mourning more than the bereaved. In actual fact, the PDP bled the state dry with an unparalleled impunity. We can only sympathise with them as they are now being haunted by the ghost of their terrible past.

It is not only uncanny but also uncharitable for the PDP, whose legacy of unpaid seven months salaries contributed immensely to the excruciating economic challenges in the state, to raise issues on workers’ salaries.

The misplaced allusion to the Governor’s statement at the funeral mass as well as the weak nexus between same and the issue of workers’ salaries expose the PDP as a lazy party without direction.

We will not prevent the PDP from sliding into this path of perfidy, but we shall not forget to warn against playing politics with the precious lives of the people of the state, and dishonouring the memories of the innocent compatriots who fell to the bullets of terrorists.

  • Owo Attack: Ondo PDP Questions Akeredolu Over N130,000 Fees From ‘Unpaid’ Workers

AKEREDOLU’S MISRULE IN ONDO STATE (19): FLIP SIDE OF THE OWO MASSACRE.

    By: Kennedy Ikantu Peretei

In the last two weeks, Ondo State has played host to the rest of the world. Receiving condolence messages, men and women who paid visit to the ancient city of Owo, over what has been appropriately referred to as the Owo massacre.

Gunmen (who are still unknown, apart from Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior’s declaration that they were members of ISWAP) attacked St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo with explosives and guns. At the Funeral Service for a mass burial organised by the Catholic Church, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu who was in tears remarked that, the government failed to defend the victims.

There have been several matters arising from the barbaric incident. The first was the war of words between Akeredolu and Aregbesola, both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The second was a tweet that went viral, credited to a civil servant in the State who questioned the call for people to donate blood to some of the victims who were in hospitals in Owo and environs.

What Akeredolu said at the burial service, was a confirmation of what every sensible Nigerian has said about the APC government and its agents. That the government has failed the people is the truth. Akeredolu’s qualification of the failure as “not because we have not tried but because those forces on the other side are evil and they have support” amounts to begging the question.

At least I appreciate the humility of the Governor to openly admit the failure of the APC government, whether at the centre or at home in Ondo State. It is a further proof as to the reason why such an “evil” government should not be allowed beyond 2023.

While the whole of Ondo State mourned and grieved over the massacre, the pains of civil servants came to the centre stage again. This was against the backdrop of calls for volunteers to donate blood to save lives of those who were in hospitals.

The response captured on Twitter was this: “While most children are anemic, parents can’t afford proper medical care for men… prior to this, there had been a crazy staffing crisis. Civil servants have parked their cars due to inability to buy tyres, service or fuel them. We owe tonnes of bills in kid’s school fees and food stuff bought on credit. Hungry people neither donate blood nor volunteer”. In what other ways can a government fail the people other than this?

Teachers in Ondo State who just received January, 2022 salaries on 7th June have been put on notice that, effective from July 2022, it will be mandatory to have a Master’s Degree in Education or a six months training at Public Service Institute, Ilara-Mokin to qualify for promotion. For those without M.Ed, the six months training comes with a one hundred and thirty thousand naira financial requirement.

For this category of workers who are already in a very bad shape, what a very ingenious way of creating hardship for the people. In what other ways can a government fail the people?

Training and re-training are key requirements for every organization desirous of efficiency and growth. But there are always safety nets and welfare packages that make such training sought after. This one being proposed by Akeredolu is ill-timed and the height of insensitivity to the plight of the people.

As much as l share in the pain and grief of the massacre in Owo, this is the flip side we cannot shy away from.

This series will continue shortly. The next, which is series 20 will be a recap of MISRULE from 1-19.

  • Court affirmed Ondo State Government power to set up park management committee, dismissed NURTW case

    by

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Akure, today affirmed the legal authority of Ondo State Government to set up a committee to administer the public Motor Parks in the state and restrict Union activities of NURTW in the parks.

It will be recalled that the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN recently after a protracted leadership crisis of Ondo state NURTW set up a park management Committee for the state and appointed Mr. Jacob Adebo (Idajo) as the Chairman.

Dissatisfied with the decision of the Governor, NURTW and some it’s member approached the National Industrial Court to declare the action of the Governor as illegal, null and void.

Delivering Judgment in suit No AK/14/2022 between National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) Mr Toyin Olaoye & Another VS. Governor of Ondo State & Mr Jacob Adebo (AKA Idajo), the Court held that the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN can legally and validly set up Park Management Committee to manage Public Parks in the state and suspend the activities of NURTW in the park especially where the crisis of the Union affects the smooth operation of the park.

The Court further held that there is no law that empowers NURTW to take over, administer public park and Unionize all drivers. The trial Court thereafter dismissed the suit filed by NURTW.
