The minister in his goodwill message described the Oluwo as a blessing to the exalted throne of Iwo in particular and the entire Yorubaland in general as his depth of cultural engagements has marked him out as a worthy ambassador of Yoruba race both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.

He explained further that the wide exposure of the monarch has been impacting positively on the developmental strides of his community which is evident in the visible growth being witnessed in the ancient town since his assumption of the throne of his forefathers.

The philanthropic gesture that the Oluwo has been extending to his subjects is a measure of his undiluted love for his town and the people who spontaneously mill round him as ants do to sugar.

That the monarch is loved by his people is not an overstatement as he freely mingles with them at any slightest opportunity to radiate his love for them.

  • Father’s Day: Cleric urges fathers to embrace responsibility, serve as role models

As the world celebrates Father’s Day, Pastor Emmanuel Ademola, the Funder, senior Pastor,  of Christ Renewal Church of All Nations, Aratunsi, Oke Aro Akure, Ondo state, has called on fathers to take their God-given responsibilities seriously by leading their families with love, care, and spiritual guidance.

Speaking during a special Father’s Day service, Pastor Ademola emphasized that fathers are more than just providers, they are also spiritual leaders and role models to their children.

“Every father is the pastor of his home,” he said. “You are the spiritual head of that little church called your family. You must give direction and lead by example.”

The cleric urged fathers to embody Christ-like character and provide not only material needs but also emotional and spiritual support to their families. He noted that fatherhood is not defined solely by biological ties, as any man who takes responsibility for a child’s upbringing is worthy of the title.

Citing a testimony from a church member, he recounted how a man who raised an adopted child later benefited from the child’s success. “Had he not played the role of a father, he may never have enjoyed that blessing,” Pastor Ademola noted.

The cleric also spoke against domestic violence, stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect in the home.

“Fathers, never raise your hands against your wives, especially in the presence of your children. Seek counseling if you are facing challenges,” he advised. “Mothers, too, should encourage strong, healthy bonds between fathers and their children.”

Addressing common parenting issues, Pastor Ademola cautioned against excessive discipline, urging fathers to correct their children with love.

“It’s wrong to beat a child into a coma just because they made a mistake. Ask yourself: did you not make such mistakes when you were their age?”

He further charged fathers to live in a way that inspires their children. “Can your daughter confidently say she wants a husband like her father?” he asked, urging men to model Christ-like behavior and integrity.

Quoting Matthew 5:48 and 1 Timothy 5:8, the pastor reminded fathers to strive for perfection in character and to fulfill their obligation to provide for their families.

He concluded by urging parents to pray for their homes, spend quality time with their children, and avoid lifestyles that distance them from their families.

“Let us correct in love, lead in truth, and love in action,” he said.

  • Over ₦6 Billion Constituency Projects, ₦500 Million Ondo City Library: Ekimogun Roundtable Demands Procurement Audit, May Petition EFCC

    by

vows to make a scapegoat out of the fleece

The Ekimogun Roundtable, a socio-economic advocacy group comprising indigenes of Ondo both at home and in the diaspora, has again raised serious concerns over alleged mismanagement of constituency projects in the Ondo East/West Federal Constituency. Of particular concern is the controversial N500 million Ondo City Library project, along with several questionable empowerment programmes.

In a statement signed by its Acting Secretary, Ms. Christiana Ayodele, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, the group described the handlers of the constituency projects as “economic warlords waging a monumental war against the well-being of the people of Ondo City by raking billions from them but giving back peanuts and yet behaving as if they are helping the people.”

Ms. Ayodele disclosed that the Roundtable is in possession of credible evidence showing that over N4 billion was allocated for constituency projects between 2021 and 2024. She alleged that many of these projects were fully executed in blatant violation of procurement regulations and were falsely presented as personal contributions by an elected official.

The group specifically labeled the Ondo City Library project a “community heist,” accusing its promoters of orchestrating a scheme to divert public funds under the guise of community development.

“These projects, purportedly sponsored by elected representatives of the constituency in the National Assembly, consistently failed to meet even the most basic standards of procurement due diligence and transparency. It is rather amusing to see some quarters celebrating the planned extension of the capital component of the 2024 Appropriation Act beyond its current expiration date, as though that changes the reality of what has already been appropriated and mismanaged. Only unserious students rejoice more over an extension of an examination date than over adequate preparation, a clear attempt to mask their inadequacies.” The statement read.

The revelation that lawmakers have been receiving a minimum of one billion Naira every year In constituency projects fund allocation has been corroborated by responsible lawmakers across the country, and instead of our own representatives to bury their head in shame they keep sponsoring hungry and economically deprived people to spew nonsene, thinking our people are foolish.

According to the Roundtable, many of the projects and empowerment initiatives fully executed lacked proper needs assessments, featured unverifiable lists of beneficiaries, and bore signs of undue personalisation and contract splitting. In several instances, funds were allegedly disbursed before project completion, raising red flags about the true intent behind these initiatives.

“These infractions strongly suggest that the multibillion-naira projects were not designed to serve the community but instead functioned as channels for personal enrichment at public expense,” the group stated.

The Ekimogun Roundtable reaffirmed its commitment to holding all responsible parties accountable and ensuring that every misappropriated kobo is traced and recovered in the interest of the Ondo people. It further revealed ongoing efforts to engage the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to conduct a comprehensive audit of the projects. Where necessary, the group said it would escalate the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation and prosecution in order to make a scapegoat out of the fleece.

The group also pledged to closely monitor the implementation of over ₦2 billion worth of projects earmarked for the constituency in the 2025 budget, with the goal of ensuring transparency and maximizing benefits for the people.

  • Nigeria’s Democratic Journey: Progress, setbacks, and the significance of June 12 Democracy Day

As Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day on June 12, political analyst and statesman Mr. Gbenga Ajisafe reflects on the nation’s democratic journey since the return to civilian rule in 1999, a journey marked by significant achievements, persistent challenges, and renewed calls for inclusive governance and citizen engagement.

According to Mr. Ajisafe, Nigeria’s democracy has undeniably contributed to national development by providing a framework for governance, enhancing civic engagement, and protecting fundamental rights. However, he notes that the country’s democratic evolution has also been marred by systemic corruption, ethnic tensions, and growing economic inequality.

“Democracy in Nigeria has opened doors for progress, but we must also acknowledge the many obstacles that have slowed our advancement,” Ajisafe said.

Since the handover from military to civilian rule in 1999, Nigeria has made progress in building democratic institutions and expanding political participation. Elections are now a routine feature of governance, and civic awareness has grown, especially among the youth.

Yet, this progress has not come without setbacks. Political instability, economic disparities, and a fragile security environment continue to challenge national development. Corruption, in particular, has eroded public trust, while ethnic and religious divisions have hindered social cohesion.

While there have been some economic improvements, particularly in infrastructure and trade, poverty and inequality remain widespread. Experts argue that true democratic dividends are only possible when citizens’ basic needs are met and public institutions are held accountable and operate transparently.

June 12 Democracy Day, officially recognized in 2018, marks the annulled 1993 presidential election, widely regarded as Nigeria’s freest and fairest poll, and honors those who fought for democratic freedoms. The election saw Nigerians voting across ethnic and religious lines, symbolizing a shared aspiration for a unified and democratic nation.

Democracy Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made to restore civilian rule and highlights the need for continued vigilance in safeguarding democratic principles. It also presents an opportunity to promote civic education, encourage grassroots participation, and recognize the unsung heroes of democracy.

Ajisafe emphasized that strengthening democracy requires more than symbolic gestures, it demands active citizen participation, especially at the grassroots level. Civic education initiatives, community engagement, and youth-led advocacy campaigns are critical tools for deepening democratic culture.

He recommends increased efforts in civic education, enhanced local government participation, and the fostering of inter-communal dialogue to build a more inclusive and resilient democracy.

“Grassroots engagement is where the real work of democracy begins. Citizens must see themselves as co-creators of governance, not just passive observers,” he added.

Recognizing the contributions of democracy advocates, from activists like Aisha Yesufu and educators like Seyi Oluyole to political leaders like Governor Babagana Zulum, not only honors their legacy but also inspires a new generation of civic-minded Nigerians.

Mentorship programs, youth empowerment initiatives, and inclusive policy-making are seen as essential strategies for nurturing future leaders and reinforcing democratic principles.

Looking ahead, Ajisafe stressed that for democracy to truly flourish, it must be inclusive, transparent, and responsive to citizens’ needs. This involves tackling corruption head-on, implementing economic reforms to reduce inequality, and ensuring that all voices, especially those of marginalized groups, are heard and respected.

As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day, it is both a time of reflection and a call to action. The road to democratic consolidation is long and often difficult, but with informed citizens and accountable leadership, the promise of democracy can become a lived reality for all Nigerians.

The lawmaker concluded with a warm greeting: “Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria!

  • Celebratng Democracy Day 2025: A Message from Tomiwa Aregbesola FNSE, FIMC

    by

As we commemorate Democracy Day in Nigeria, I, Tomiwa Aregbesola, Chairman of the Tomiwa Aregbesola Foundation (TAF), felicitate with us all on 26years of unbroken democracy and extend my heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to democracy and democratic values. His personal sacrifices in the fight for and upholding democratic values inspire us all. Today serves as a powerful reminder of our significant journey since the re-establishment of democracy and the sacrifices made by those who fought for the freedoms some now take for granted.

I would also like to seize this opportunity to recognize Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa of Ondo State, whose exemplary leadership and dedication to public welfare have greatly contributed to fostering democratic principles in our region and state. In just a little over 100 days, Governor Ayedatiwa has demonstrated remarkable leadership that inspires hope and optimism in the people of Ondo State.

Under his guidance, we have witnessed transformative policies focusing on:

Infrastructural Development: Governor Ayedatiwa’s prioritization of ongoing projects has significantly improved infrastructure across the state. By upgrading roads, bridges, and public facilities, he is enhancing accessibility and fostering economic growth, creating an environment conducive to trade and investment.

Fair Labor Practices: As a champion of fair labour, he was among the first to implement the new minimum wage, significantly improving workers’ livelihoods. His recruitment of new teachers further underscores his commitment to quality education and the future of Ondo State’s youth.

Health and Social Welfare: His administration has launched initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare, increasing access to medical services, and supporting marginalized communities. Additionally, his decisive actions against land grabbing have protected citizens’ property rights.

Transport for Students: A key achievement has been the revival of the students’ transport system, ensuring safe transport for students and alleviating logistical burdens on families. This initiative reflects his commitment to creating a supportive educational environment.

Local Governance Empowerment: Governor Ayedatiwa has also strengthened local governance through timely elections, ensuring accessible and transparent governance that empowers citizens in decision-making processes.

Economic Initiatives: To stimulate the state’s economy, he is focusing on developing the deep-sea port and engaging with investors, positioning Ondo State as an attractive hub for business opportunities.

As we celebrate this Democracy Day, let us all recognize that the strength of our democracy relies on the active participation of every Nigerian. We must engage, advocate, and work together to overcome challenges such as corruption and insecurity, ensuring that our democratic institutions serve all citizens effectively.

In conclusion, I commend Governor Ayedatiwa for his outstanding achievements while encouraging more efforts for continued progress.

Let us reaffirm our commitment to a free, fair, and inclusive Nigeria.

Happy Democracy Day to all Nigerians!
