  • Orimisan Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the glory of the latter house shall be greater – Dr. Akeredolu O.N

As in the holy Bible. Indeed, every man’s time is in the hands of God; Orimisan, Oriresan, Origbogbowasan( good luck to me, good luck to you, good luck to all of us in Ondo state).

    INTRODUCTION

The first time saw this man was when Hon. Abegunde Ifedayo , popularly called Abena was appointed as secretary of Ondo state. He came to Abena’s house like other dignitaries, I was however, a one day personal assistant to the new secretary to the state government. I served him diligently all through the day.
His excellency, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the present deputy governor sat quietly in Abena’s sitting room, calmly, smiling to every peace that warms the air. I was rejuvenated by his impressive quietness and gentility. Hence, I had to put on my armour of courage, approached him with a smile that says much more that you’re a great man made for the best, his response was so polite, soft and full of reassurance. Never had I know a day would come that he will be the deputy governor in our dear state.
I have not had the opportunity to meet him thereafter, until he was appointed as deputy governor designate by Aketi during his second term bid.

Personally, I learnt a great lesson from the life of this great man which is in tandem with my earlier belief that nobody knows tomorrow and under no circumstance should you look down on any man and to always treat people well irrespective of age, gender or social class.
Thereafter, I learnt of his name, which sounded very familiar ( Aiyedatiwa).
He had contested for Ondo south Senatorial seat during the2019 but lost to power play and Abuja gang-up.
He was a member of NDDC, representing Ondo state in the two month old board dissolved by president Buhari led government. He has been a consistent supporter of Aketi since 2012, as far as back the days of ACN.

Considering the name of the deputy governor; Orimisan, which means, I have a good head, also known as good luck. Yorubas generally believe that anything that would happen to you in life depends on your head( Ori). Another school of thought believes in the adage says you should worship your head instead of gods, because your head will always be working in your favour even when the gods are asleep or very far from your rescue. Why his parents chose to christen him as Orimisan , I have no idea. But surely there is always a reason. It might be some signs at his birth and or many others. As we all known, Yorubas consider many things before a name is given to a child. The foretold prophecy through Ifa Oracle or other means, signs, happenings at birth, projection or expectant life outcome of the child and many others. Whatever might be the reason why his parents christened him Orimisan, it was prophetic in the life of our deputy governor. I was moved to write in this regard, when I saw his picture with president Muhammad Buhari at an official ceremony in Lagos State recently, where the governor of the state was unavoidably absent, and accordingly, he represented Mr governor. And as his name connotes; indeed, our deputy governor has a good head.

ORIMISAN, A RISING STAR FROM ILAJE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Ilaje local government belongs to Ondo south Senatorial district with other local governments like Okitipupa, Irele, Ese-odo, Ile-Oluji – Okeigbo and Odigbo, One of two( Ilaje and Ese-odo) oil producing local governments. That have been a blessing to the state. It is because of them that Ondo state is among the oil producing states of Nigeria with benefits of oil derivation, member of NDDC, some projects of NDDC in the state, scholarship for our children in higher institutions of learning and many more.

Since the creation of new Ondo state from old one that had the present Ekiti state and inception of democracy since 1999, none of the sons of Ilaje local government had never been either governor or depuy governor. When the Aketi became the governorship candidate of APC in 2016, the need for credible and reliable deputy governor ensured. Aspirants in APC, from Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Abena from Akure South, late Dr Oluropo Adegbenro from Ilara, Hon Agboola Ajayi from Ese-odo who was eventually picked, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa from Ilaje local government and many qualified candidates, Agbo, Abena and Aiyedatiwa made it to the last three which Hon. Agbo was later considered.

According to a Yoruba adage that; ‘ the head of a prince to be the next king, redefines the life of the present king and time spend on the throne. Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa never thought he would be a deputy governor.
When Hon. Agboola Ajayi from Ese-odo was the deputy governor, considering his ( Agbo) closeness to Mr. governor, having come from the same local government with ever revered mother of Aketi. He was in charge of most things in the early days of Aketi’s first term.

However, the political differences that ensured between Aketi and Agbo, then deputy governor shattered the table so fiercely but gloriously. Some leaders like Alash, Olabimtan and Fayemi tried all the could to resolve their differences but the duo, stood tooth and bottled-neck. All efforts at resolution proved abortive.
Hon Agboola Ajayi insisted and contested against his boss, the rest you know.
Aketi had no other option when it was obvious, then deputy was keen to contest against him , he had to look among his extensive followers and picked the most loyal and consistent in person of Hon Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. Just as today, he is a breed of humility coated with loyalty, wisdom and consistency. He is a man called by God to serve. An honour so far decorated with innumerable dexterity and respect.

    IN CONCLUSION

Today, if you ask me of Hon Orimisan lucky Aiyedatiwa, I will tell you he is basking in the grace and glory of God and excellent performance, more admirable than his predecessors. He represents our dear governor so diligently in many occasions. With outstanding bond of cordial relationship between them. Aketi openly commended him( Aiyedatiwa at the inauguration of campaign committees last year and admonished that other party members should emulate his consistency, patience and sacrifices until his time came. Indeed, according to the holy book of God; “Bible” the glory of latter house shall be greater than the former. This is coming to pass in Hon. Aiyedatiwa’s life

How I wish our youths take leave from his strides, styles and other good virtues exhibited so far by this noble and renowned gentle man until his time of compensation came.

Well , we’ll pray like this.

Orimisan, Oriresan, Origbogbowasan in Ondo state,( good luck to me, good luck to you, good luck to all of us in Ondo state)

  • Reps demand board constitution, fault sole administrator for NDDC

    by

The House of Representative has declared illegal, the current appointment of a sole administrator for the Niger Delta Development Commission, asking the Federal Government to properly constitute a board for the zonal body.

The House also alleged that some member states have been marginalised in the leadership and management of the NDDC since inception, demanding that the critical leadership positions should be zoned to the affected states.

At the plenary on Thursday, a member of the House from Ondo State, Kolade Akinjo, had moved a motion titled ‘Need to Comply with the Niger Delta Development Commission Act, 2000 in the composition of the Governing Board.’

As the lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion, they resolved to “urge the Federal Government to adhere to the provisions of the NDDC Act 2000 by constituting the governing board” and to adhere to the provisions of Section 4 of the NDDC Act 2000 “by considering Delta State, which is next in alphabetical order for the position of the chairmanship of the board.”

The House further urged the Federal Government to adhere to the provisions of Section 12(1) of the NDDC Act 2000 “by considering Ondo, Edo and Imo member states, which in this order are next in quantum of production of 5th, 6th and 7th, for the positions of the Managing Director, Executive Director, Finance and Administration; and Executive Director, Projects of the board, respectively.”

Akinjo partly said, “The House notes that great injustice has characterised the composition of the board of the NDDC as regards the offices of the chairman, managing director and the two executive directors.

“The House is disturbed that this situation is not only a worrisome violation of the letters and spirit of the NDDC Act 2000 that established the commission but a suppression of the statutory rights of the remaining member states to these positions.

“The House is concerned that if urgent steps are not taken to reverse this disturbing trend, it will not only be an extensive discrimination against these remaining member States but further engendering a discriminatory practice impeding the participation of these member states in managing the affairs of the Commission formed to cater for them.”

The lawmaker noted that Section 2(1) of the NDDC Act clearly spells out the distraction of the offices to the states. He added that Section 4 states how the office of the chairman shall rotate among the member states in alphabetical order, starting with Abia State and ending with Rivers State.

  • Gov. Akeredolu as Chief Obafemi Awolowo Incarnate, his achievements are too many in 100 days – Dr Akeredolu O.N

Arakunrin’s Midas touch has no bound in Ondo state, with what Mr. governor is doing, Ondo state will a day become the light of Oduduwa descendants, the last stroke to break poverty’s backbone is the reality of Ondo state seaport which Aketi has vowed to bring to pass

    INTRODUCTION

Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, who was a first premier of Western Nigeria, did many lives transforming projects for the region which have made the descendants of Oduduwa the light of the black race. Today, despite the glory and uniqueness of other tribes in the country, if you look at the happenings in the country very closely, you will discover that indeed, Yorubas are pacesetters and the impact of Awo in liberating the region can’t be overemphasized. Arakunrin Akeredolu Oluwarotimi SAN, the current governor of Ondo state who had openly professed this great Awo as one of his mentors, has turned Ondo state to another theatre of what Awo did in early days that made Yoruba race the leader of other regions in the country today and with what Aketi is doing now, coupled with his visions, Ondo state will a day become the light of Oduduwa descendants.

People have been using the word ‘Midas touch’ without knowing the story behind it, it is a Greek / Roman’s mythology in which a man named Midas had an encounter with a god’s agent who he( Midas) showed mercy to and he was rewarded with power to turn anything he touched to gold and this made him a hero of his time and became a myth till today. Arakunrin Akeredolu Oluwarotimi SAN is known for what is synonymous to Midas in the above mythology with the projects executed by his government. It is clearly shown that God has sent him to us in Ondo state for a season like this and he hasn’t let the people down in all regards.

When Aketi showed interest to govern this state in 2012, only few people like us believed him, considering the political bigwigs eyeing the same seat then, even in ACN, there was no hope for him to become the candidate, let alone of winning in general election. He came up with a unique idea of ‘the chosen’ as his logo, it was like a joke and great surprise when the power brokers of progressives led by Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu settled for him, which was characterized by chaos and tupsy turvy in the state chapter of the party, as expected, a lot of people decamped to other parties in the state. Arakunrin, as a bold and courageous man, never gave a damn but worked with like minds, Chief Tayo Donald Alasoadura (Alash) , Chief Ifedayo Abegunde popularly called Abena, Eng. Ade Adetimehin and others, he eventually lost the race in 2012 but it was a worthy political fight for him and a training session for challenges ahead.

In 2016, he was not in good record of power brokers as before, so that all glory could go to God, as we all know the Almighty creator likes not to share his glory with carnal men. Despite the challenges from his home town, Owo, which ordinarily should be a work over for him but array of aspirants against him made the political game uneasy for Aketi. After everything , Arakunrin Akeredolu had all reasons to glorify God because he didn’t only emerge as the candidate of APC in the state but won against all predictions of best political analysts in the general election. He successfully governed the state for first term despite the weak state’s finances inherited from his predecessor. Currently, our Arakunrin is celebrating 100 days after being sworn in to pilot the affairs of the state for second term, a rare opportunity in the state.

AKETI’S UNTIRING EFFORTS IN LAST 100 DAYS

After the last governorship election in the state in which Aketi’s opponents failed woefully and Arakunrin , in unprecedented manner in the history of the state won 15 out of 18 local governments, and he was sworn in to continue his good works for the people the state. Arakunrin led government surprised the people of the state by declaring free WAEC exams for students in public secondary schools in the state. To me, it was commendable and showed the entire world that Mr. governor is more concerned with governance than politics.

It is a usual trend that a governor would do his best in first term and use the second term to misbehave, a program like this above mentioned free WAEC program is being done in the first term of governors to hoodwink people to vote for his reelection but in the case of Aketi, reverse is the situation, he never introduced it when he needed the people’s votes for re-election but now when he has no votes to gain from them. It is a show of genuineness of his mission of making lives better in the state.

Various road projects have so far commissioned in the state , Akure and Idanre have been neighbors from ancient days, there had been only a road, linking these great communities. Arakunrin, in his ingenuity, noticed this absurdity and ensured another road was constructed to break a jinx and made history for them. This was one of the projects commissioned by Arakunrin immediately after his inception into office for second. The rate at which other road constructions is going in the state, makes people wonder about these saliva drooling road projects in the state.

From appointment of first female secretary to state government in the history of the state, Princess Oladuni Odu, who had served in various capacities both state and national level, fearless disposition to the security of lives and properties of people with the reality of Amotekun corps, commissioning of modern piggery in the state ( first of his kind in the state), disbursement of scholarship and bursary to Ondo state indigenes in higher institutions of learning in their thousands and digital training for unemployed youths across the three senatorial districts, and many projects by our Arakunrin show the state is at verge of leading others in Nigeria.

    IN CONCLUSION

The last stroke from Aketi that will break poverty’s backbone in the state is the idea of seaport conceived by late Dr. Agagu who led the state for six years but his immediate successor , Dr. Mimiko, for reason best known to him, refused to pursue this brilliant idea into reality, Arakunrin has vowed to see the dream of late Agagu come to pass in this regard, that the ships will have their harbor in Ilaje local government very soon.

One of the popular prophets in the state, in Adofure Akure, foresaw the vision of big ships landing on the shore of the state and socioeconomic transformation of Ondo south senatorial district of the state. My earnest prayer is that God will help Mr. governor in achieving this landmark in the history of the state .

  • Adeyanju laud Gov. Akeredolu on Araromi-obu townships roads

    by

The indigenes and residents of Araromi-obu town in Odigbo local government area of Ondo state have expressed joy and satisfaction over the completion and commissioning of the township roads by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony to mark 100 days of Governor Akeredolu 2nd terms in office by Hon. Yetunde Adeyanju said that the construction and commissioning of Araromi-obu township roads, was a big blessing as it had opened up the town for more development.

Adeyanju commended the Ondo State government for the development of Araromi-Obu township roads infrastructure and others across the state.

“The road before it was constructed by Ondo state Governor was a dungeon and death trap to the residents of the community, but today the story has changed. She commended.

  • Breaking:Fulani herdsmen, ready to attack us – Ondo Community Cries Out

    by

    …as Police, Military Look Away

The community leader said the Fulani attackers are presently in Lipakala Forest around the Sabo area in Ondo town an area known to security agencies but they have refused to deploy their personnel there.

New York Residents of Adeoye, Akinrimisi and Ajaye in Ondo Town, Ondo State are presently living in fear as they have observed Fulani herdsmen in their numbers invading their areas with weapons and setting up hideouts for an imminent attack.

SaharaReporters learnt that the Fulani herdsmen attacked one of the areas on Monday night up till Tuesday morning, in a “test-run” as residents lamented that the police and the soldiers deployed in their area only extort money from motorists and turn their backs on the attackers.

A top source and community leader told SaharaReporters that the Fulani attackers are presently in Lipakala Forest around Sabo area in Ondo town – an area known to security agencies but they have refused to deploy their personnel there.

“We are calling the attention of security agents to some Fulani herdsmen hiding at Lipakala Forest at Sabo, Adeoye, Akinrimisi up till Ajaye in Ondo town. The people living in these areas don’t sleep at night. Please, let Nigerians treat this as a matter that requires urgency. We have informed the security agencies but they are only interested in extorting money from motorists plying the roads.

“Let the whole world hear before Fulani will attack Ondo town and the police and the military would claim they were not given intelligence. We are crying out now. Go and flush out Fulani gunmen hiding in Lipakala Forest in Sabo.”
“Two days ago, they did a test-run attack. They forced many residents to flee to neighbouring villages. We could not sleep,” another source added.

Ondo State has also had its fair share of herdsmen onslaughts in the recent past.
SaharaReporters had in February, for example, reported how Fulani herdsmen attacked some farmers at Ijugbere in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing three of them.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Agriculture, Akin Olotu, had confirmed the killing to SaharaReporters.

“Yes, it’s true, three people were killed, the place is becoming like Zamfara. Those accusing the governor of ordering illegal occupants of the forest to vacate the place, I think they should be charged as accomplices,” Olotu said

“It obvious these bandits are ready for war. That’s why the governor said if you are a cattle rearer, let us know you, disclose your identity. Let us know where you come from, let us know who owns your cattle. It’s so sad.”

Ondo Niger Delta Coalition Group laments the continuous marginalisation of Ondo State, charge president buhari to exercise fairness, justice & equity by appointing ondo indigene from the mandate area as the next NDDC MD

    PRESS RELEASE

BY COALITION OF NIGER DELTA GROUPS IN ONDO STATE

Gentlemen of the press, we are here today to address a crucial issue affecting Niger Delta region of the country particularly Ondo State.

Coalition of Groups in the Niger Delta areas of Ondo State comprises Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM), Ex-militants and Youths of different associations, have come together to make this press release, calling and appealing to President Mohammadu Buhari and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to adhere strictly to the Act that formed Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in constituting the next Managing Director of the Commission which is the constitutional right of Ondo State by the virtue of the Act that established NDDC in 2000.

This contained in a statement realized by the Ondo Niger Delta Coalition Group, lamented the continuous marginalisation of Ondo State, charged president Buhari to exercise fairness, justice & equity by appointing ondo indigene from the mandate area as the next NDDC MD

The group urged President Buhari to exercise fairness by appointing Ondo indigene as the new MD of NDDC. It should be noted that the Managing Director of the board of NDDC is the turn of Ondo State while constituting the substantive board.

“Section 12(1) of the NDDC Act states, there shall be for the Commission, a Managing Director and two Executive Directors who shall be indigenes of oil producing areas starting with the member-state with the highest production quantum of oil and shall rotate amongst member-states in order of production.”

This clear and unambiguous provision of the NDDC Act means that every member-state shall produce the Managing Director of the Commission in a rotational manner, following a sequential order that uses the quantum of oil production starting with the state with the highest production and you will agree with us that Ondo State is the fifth largest producers of oil after Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa State had produced the NDDC Managing Director. Therefore, we want to strongly appeal to Hon. Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to use his good office to inform President Buhari to adhere strictly to the Act and appoint the next NDDC Managing Director from Ondo State, being the fifth highest oil producing state as stipulated in the NDDC Act.

We want to express our pain over the continuous marginalisation of the oil communities in Ondo State in the composition of the NDDC’s board as executive lawlessness and injustice that must be addressed by President Muhammadu Buhari and his Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio before it causes a serious mayhem in the region.

Records have shown that Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa States respectively have repeatedly produced the NDDC Managing Director in succession, thereby giving room for the marginalization of Ondo State.

Records have revealed that Delta State had occupied the position of MD four times and the positions of the Executive Director of Finance with that of Executive Director of Project three times.

Akwa Ibom State had occupied the position of Managing Director (MD) three times, and still had the position of the Executive Director of Finance with that of Executive Director of Project Four times.

Rivers State had occupied the position of the Managing Director (MD) three times and had the positions of the Executive Director of Finance with that of Executive Director of Project four times.

Bayelsa State had occupied the position of the Managing Director (MD) of NDDC four times and the positions of the Executive Director Finance and that of Executive Director Project five times.

Therefore, the continuous marginalisation of Ondo State in constituting the Managing Director, Director of Finance & Administration and that of Director of Project is alarming and clear manifestation of injustice and executive lawlessness that must be addressed by President Muhammadu Buhari and his Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio before it causes a serious problem in the oil-rich region.

At this juncture, we are making a special appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to exercise fairness and sincerity by considering an Ondo State indigene from the oil communities in his plan for fresh nominations into the Management Board of the NDDC – the Managing Director.

Mr President, we appeal to you to help us to stop this corruption, impunity and injustice against Ondo State for the sake of fairness, justice and equity.

Finally, outside this press release, our position and special appeal shall communicated to President Buhari in an official letter which will be addressed to his office in Abuja and also copied office of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Minister of State Niger Delta Affairs, Senate President,Speaker House of Representatives,Chairman Senate Committee on Niger Delta and Chairman house Committee on NDDC.

In the same vein, letter of protection on peaceful protest which will be staged in Abuja will be submitted to the office of the National Security Adviser to the President, Inspector General of Police, DSS and other relevant security apparatus.
