    by

    ..orders DPOs to Supervise Men

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, today charged Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders in the Command to enforce discipline on their personnel in order to sustain the standards and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner of Police made the admonishion today Monday, 21st June, 2021, during a conference for officers of the Command at POWA Hall, Oduduwa, Ikeja-Lagos, where operational, administrative and sensitive matters in the Command were religiously discussed.

The police boss gave instances where some of the personnel in the Command and in other police formations in Lagos State were dismissed or reduced in rank while some were caused to serve other punishments for one disciplinary offence or the other as enshrined in the PoliceAct and Regulations. He emphasised on the need to promote discipline via proper dressing, respect for superior in ranks, punctuality, decency and creditable conducts etc as the professional values of the Nigeria Police Force is anchored on disciplines.

In another development, CP Hakeem Odumosu, also directed officers and men of the Command to intensify efforts on enforcement of restriction order on okada operations in the state. He ordered that okada operations must be brought to a halt at the designated restricted areas in Lagos State.

CP Hakeem Odumosu, equally ordered the Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to supervice the Special Anti Traffic Robbery teams and motorcycles deployed to monitor and tackle robbery in traffic in their respective areas of responsibility as the command will not condone any security lapses in any part of the state, including the waterways, more so that there is increasing heavy traffic on our waterways in Lagos.

The Commissioner of Police therefore appealed to the general public to always intimate the Command of any professional misconducts of Police personnel so as to assist the Police Command in nipping such in the bud and enforcing discipline in all areas; and to promote professionalism which will boost quality service delivery.

  • Woman trapped in demolished building, hospitalised

    by

A yet-to-be identified woman, was reportedly trapped in the rumbles of her building which was demolished in the ongoing road expansion in Ijoka, Akure, Ondo State.

The unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday morning.

Reports reaching The Hope Metro indicated that the building owned by the woman before the exercise was one of the houses marked for demolition by the Ondo State Government in the ongoing expansion of Oluwatuyi/Ijoka road to ease free flow of vehicles.

The victim, it was learnt, was trying to get some of her personal effects out of the demolished building that close to the road when suddenly a cracked part of the house fell on her.

An eyewitness account told our reporter that part of the already demolished building reportedly fell on her while she was trying to remove some of her belongings.

  • When Ondo PDP and Jegede chose to fight God -Dr. Akeredolu O.N

They would have broken a record as first set of people to fight God and prevailed in the history of the world if they had won their case against Aketi at appeal court

    INTRODUCTION

This is not the first time which the governorship election would be challenged at the tribunal, from the second republic of Nigeria democracy in which Chief Akin Omoboriowo of NPN, an Ijero man from modern day Ekiti state, was declared winner of the most controversial election in history of Nigeria, in 1983, against Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin of UPN, i.e Awo’s party. For knowledge sake and to refresh our memories, both Chief Adekunle Ajasin and Akin Omoboriowo belonged to the progressives, in which Chief Ajasin was elected as governor and Chief Akin Omoboriowo as his deputy under UPN in 1979 governorship election.

The initial smooth relationship between Chief Ajasin and Chief Akin later became sour with the latter who tried to challenge the authority of his boss and contested against him as the candidate of the ruling national party in the state. With available federal might, the election was massively rigged in favor of Chief Akin Omoboriowo of NPN in the state and declared the winner by federal government controlled electoral body( FEDECO). There was a massive protest across the state and wanton destruction of lives and properties by the sympathizers of UPN against the NPN. Chief Ajasin challenged the results at the court of law which he won and Chief Omoboriowo’s victory was upturned, the government only lasted between 3 to 4 months before military took over from Shagari led government.

The next election of Gen. Babangida led kangaroo transition, was not significant in terms of tribunal because the elections were free and fair to the best of international standard. Since the inception of this dispensation of democracy in 1999, late Chief Adefarati and late Dr. Agagu displayed uncommon sportsmanship spirit in handling political issues that ensued in 1999 and 2003 of their political misunderstandings in which late Chief Adefarati won that of 1999 while late Dr. Agagu won that of 2003’s return match , the rest is now history and there was no court or tribunal case in that regard.

In 2007, after governorship election, the labour party and Dr. Mimiko had to take the ruling party of late Dr. Agagu to court. In all fairness, that year’s elections were marred with a lot of irregularities and Dr. Mimiko won both at tribunal and appeal court, and he was finally ushered in 2009 after 2years of legal battles. In 2012, Aketi also challenged the perceived irregularities in Dr. Mimiko’s re-election to supreme court but lost at all levels. Now, the difference between the previously challenged elections of Chief Ajasin and Chief Omoboriowo , Dr. Agagu and Dr. Mimiko, Dr.Mimiko and Aketi, now, Aketi and Jegede (who lost at tribunal and appeal court respectively), there were obvious irregularities in aforementioned cases while the last election between Jegede and Aketi was adjudged as wishes of Ondo state people by independent observers who monitored the election.

AKETI’S GIANT STRIDES IN THE STATE

It is no longer news that Aketi inherited weak state’s economy from his immediate predecessor, as a leader who doesn’t believe in giving excuses, he admitted that government is continuum and tried his best not to dwell in the past. From the health sector, education , security, infrastructure and other sectors, were touched positively in the last four years of Arakunrin led government. Onee of the first actions of Aketi was to employ health personnel into available spaces in health sector of the state. He also ensured that the already conceived teaching hospital by his predecessor, saw the light of the day by sending a bill to the house for its establishment.

Mr.governor liaised with foreign organizations and some modern equipments were donated to Ondo state health sector, the state contributory health scheme was established to reduce out of pocket payment. The general hospital was built for people of Ifon in Ose local government of the state. Recently, health personnel were employed in their thousands to Ondo state primary health board to cater for the health needs at the grassroot. Mr. governor also appointed four Permanent Secretaries from the health professionals in the state, in which 3 doctors( Dr. Durojaye, Dr. Akanbiemu, Dr. Ikuomola and a pharmacist ( Pharm. (Mrs)Aladenola) were appointed unlike the previous status quo of appointing two permanent secretaries from health ministry alone.

Several age- long forgotten roads were constructed in the last four years, some were dualized, like Ijoka road, Oda road, Old NEPA road, Oba Osupa road, State specialist hospital (now Unimed road) in Akure, the popular Oke Alabojuto road in Ikare and many more. It will take a lengthy article to accurately outline all the road projects executed by this government. One thing is very clear which the blind can see and the deaf can ear in Ondo state, it is the unparalleled achievements of our Arakunrin in infrastructural developments.

The security of lives and properties of Ondo state people is our Mr. governor’s priority, his effort in this regard is very obvious, the popular Amotekun corps was championed by him. This has reduced the crime rates in the state to bearable level, especially dreaded kidnappings by killer Fulani herdsmen.

Other sectors of the economy were touched by Mr. governor with his Midas touch, the proposed Ondo state seaport which Aketi has vowed to bring to reality before the expiration of his tenure, appointment of first female secretary to government in the history of the state, Princess Oladuni Odu, Arakunrin’s achievements in education like payment of WAEC fees for students of public schools, construction of new buildings for public primary schools, recently employed over 1000 teachers for public schools teachers and the promotion of over 3000 teachers in state civil service, scholarship and bursaries for over 7000 students of Ondo state students in higher institutions of learning , just to mention a few of Aketi’s achievements.

    IN CONCLUSION

Fighting Aketi by PDP and her governorship candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede SAN in state, through legal battles, in which God won for Aketi twice is tantamount to fighting God who sent him as a pathfinder of new Ondo state. It is obvious that Mr. Eyitayo Jegede SAN lost the last election but the bad loser attitudes of modern day politicians are condemnable

Though, PDP and her candidate in last governorship refused to accept destiny but have chosen to fight God and promised to challenge the election results to supreme court, I wish the ailing party best of luck, let’s see how the party who managed to win 3 out of 18 local governments of state will suddenly win from supreme Court, I know God is with Arakunrin General of the universe.

  • Democracy, the only panacea for Nigeria to move forward – LG boss.

    by

    By Tinah Joshua

The Chairman, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State Mr Igbekele, has said, there is no alternative to democracy which is the panacea for Nigeria to move forward.

The Council boss in his Democracy Day speech in Okitipupa urged citizens of the country, especially youths, to give peace a chance to thrive so that the country could reclaim its lost glory.

Igbekeke also said that it was a great pleasure to celebrate June 12, as Democracy Day in the history of the country which was also in honour of those who laid down their lives for democracy to thrive.

“It’s a pleasure that we are celebrating today as Democracy Day in the history of Nigeria and also to honour those who laid down their lives for democracy to thrive.

“I want to say that there is no alternative to democracy and peace in this country, like the maxim I am used to ‘Individualism can not solve the problem of collectivism’.

“Liiving in peace is a collective effort of all citizens; I enjoin all to give peace a chance always for the country to move forward,” Igbekele said.

Meanwhile, in a bid to forstall break-down of law and order on the purpoted protest by some youths and groups scheduled for Saturday, June 12, security was beefed-up in Okitipupa LGA and it’s environs.

The Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army, South-West Security Network code-named Amotekun Corps, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) patrol vehicle were seen patrolling the council and its environs.

Reacting, Igbekele said that the tight security was needed in a bid to forstall the 2020 experience of the protest against Police brutality, #EndSARS, which was hijacked by suspected hoodlums who destroyed government property.

He said that the council was yet to recover from the incident.

“We cannot afford to witness another #EndSARS which badly affected our council as many infrastructures were set ablaze and that is why we beefed-up security today to forestall any likely protest.

“We are yet to recover from the havoc of lasts year’s protest; we thank God that God is using people to rebuild our council now,” Igbekele added.

According to our correspondent, many of the residents stayed indoors and the streets and roads in the council area were deserted for fear of being attacked by purported protesters, the council area was cool and calm.

  • Orimisan Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the glory of the latter house shall be greater – Dr. Akeredolu O.N

As in the holy Bible. Indeed, every man’s time is in the hands of God; Orimisan, Oriresan, Origbogbowasan( good luck to me, good luck to you, good luck to all of us in Ondo state).

    INTRODUCTION

The first time saw this man was when Hon. Abegunde Ifedayo , popularly called Abena was appointed as secretary of Ondo state. He came to Abena’s house like other dignitaries, I was however, a one day personal assistant to the new secretary to the state government. I served him diligently all through the day.
His excellency, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the present deputy governor sat quietly in Abena’s sitting room, calmly, smiling to every peace that warms the air. I was rejuvenated by his impressive quietness and gentility. Hence, I had to put on my armour of courage, approached him with a smile that says much more that you’re a great man made for the best, his response was so polite, soft and full of reassurance. Never had I know a day would come that he will be the deputy governor in our dear state.
I have not had the opportunity to meet him thereafter, until he was appointed as deputy governor designate by Aketi during his second term bid.

Personally, I learnt a great lesson from the life of this great man which is in tandem with my earlier belief that nobody knows tomorrow and under no circumstance should you look down on any man and to always treat people well irrespective of age, gender or social class.
Thereafter, I learnt of his name, which sounded very familiar ( Aiyedatiwa).
He had contested for Ondo south Senatorial seat during the2019 but lost to power play and Abuja gang-up.
He was a member of NDDC, representing Ondo state in the two month old board dissolved by president Buhari led government. He has been a consistent supporter of Aketi since 2012, as far as back the days of ACN.

Considering the name of the deputy governor; Orimisan, which means, I have a good head, also known as good luck. Yorubas generally believe that anything that would happen to you in life depends on your head( Ori). Another school of thought believes in the adage says you should worship your head instead of gods, because your head will always be working in your favour even when the gods are asleep or very far from your rescue. Why his parents chose to christen him as Orimisan , I have no idea. But surely there is always a reason. It might be some signs at his birth and or many others. As we all known, Yorubas consider many things before a name is given to a child. The foretold prophecy through Ifa Oracle or other means, signs, happenings at birth, projection or expectant life outcome of the child and many others. Whatever might be the reason why his parents christened him Orimisan, it was prophetic in the life of our deputy governor. I was moved to write in this regard, when I saw his picture with president Muhammad Buhari at an official ceremony in Lagos State recently, where the governor of the state was unavoidably absent, and accordingly, he represented Mr governor. And as his name connotes; indeed, our deputy governor has a good head.

ORIMISAN, A RISING STAR FROM ILAJE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Ilaje local government belongs to Ondo south Senatorial district with other local governments like Okitipupa, Irele, Ese-odo, Ile-Oluji – Okeigbo and Odigbo, One of two( Ilaje and Ese-odo) oil producing local governments. That have been a blessing to the state. It is because of them that Ondo state is among the oil producing states of Nigeria with benefits of oil derivation, member of NDDC, some projects of NDDC in the state, scholarship for our children in higher institutions of learning and many more.

Since the creation of new Ondo state from old one that had the present Ekiti state and inception of democracy since 1999, none of the sons of Ilaje local government had never been either governor or depuy governor. When the Aketi became the governorship candidate of APC in 2016, the need for credible and reliable deputy governor ensured. Aspirants in APC, from Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Abena from Akure South, late Dr Oluropo Adegbenro from Ilara, Hon Agboola Ajayi from Ese-odo who was eventually picked, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa from Ilaje local government and many qualified candidates, Agbo, Abena and Aiyedatiwa made it to the last three which Hon. Agbo was later considered.

According to a Yoruba adage that; ‘ the head of a prince to be the next king, redefines the life of the present king and time spend on the throne. Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa never thought he would be a deputy governor.
When Hon. Agboola Ajayi from Ese-odo was the deputy governor, considering his ( Agbo) closeness to Mr. governor, having come from the same local government with ever revered mother of Aketi. He was in charge of most things in the early days of Aketi’s first term.

However, the political differences that ensured between Aketi and Agbo, then deputy governor shattered the table so fiercely but gloriously. Some leaders like Alash, Olabimtan and Fayemi tried all the could to resolve their differences but the duo, stood tooth and bottled-neck. All efforts at resolution proved abortive.
Hon Agboola Ajayi insisted and contested against his boss, the rest you know.
Aketi had no other option when it was obvious, then deputy was keen to contest against him , he had to look among his extensive followers and picked the most loyal and consistent in person of Hon Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. Just as today, he is a breed of humility coated with loyalty, wisdom and consistency. He is a man called by God to serve. An honour so far decorated with innumerable dexterity and respect.

    IN CONCLUSION

Today, if you ask me of Hon Orimisan lucky Aiyedatiwa, I will tell you he is basking in the grace and glory of God and excellent performance, more admirable than his predecessors. He represents our dear governor so diligently in many occasions. With outstanding bond of cordial relationship between them. Aketi openly commended him( Aiyedatiwa at the inauguration of campaign committees last year and admonished that other party members should emulate his consistency, patience and sacrifices until his time came. Indeed, according to the holy book of God; “Bible” the glory of latter house shall be greater than the former. This is coming to pass in Hon. Aiyedatiwa’s life

How I wish our youths take leave from his strides, styles and other good virtues exhibited so far by this noble and renowned gentle man until his time of compensation came.

Well , we’ll pray like this.

Orimisan, Oriresan, Origbogbowasan in Ondo state,( good luck to me, good luck to you, good luck to all of us in Ondo state)
