  • Like mentor, like mentee, Aketi thinks like great Awo – Dr. Akeredolu O.N

The United Nations Commission removes marijuana (Indian hemp) from the list of narcotics

    INTRODUCTION

The present governor of the state can only be compared to his mentor, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who was the first premier of old Western region of Nigeria, which comprised the modern day Yoruba speaking part of Nigeria , the present day Edo and Delta states. The rising of Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the Southwest of Nigeria in which he made a lot of exploits in this region, was divine. He wanted to rule Nigeria but he lost the first general election, he became minority leader of the the parliament of Nigeria Pre-Independent and post independent era before he was arrested and jailed on fathomed allegations.

I’m not surprised when Arakunrin said it openly that he wants to be remembered like Awolowo, that is, he has chosen this great Awo as his mentor. Yoruba says if you want to do what no man has done, you will see what no man has seen. If Aketi wants to have a name like Awolowo, he must think and work like him. One of things that distinguished Awolowo from his contemporaries was his ability to think ahead i.e foresight. His political opponents then, despite their differences, respected him for this, some of them who couldn’t cope with his intelligence, concluded that Awo was too proud.

Mr. Akeredolu Oluwarotimi SAN since inception of his administration, has been taking some steps, atypical of nowadays politicians of his class, his bluntness and insistence on standard both in civil service and political sphere in state, these have been the bone of contention with political class. Thank God, some of them later saw his styles as the best and aligned with him. The last four years of governance in the state has been a blessing to the state in all ramifications, some of us who have been his ardent disciples since 2012 are proud of his achievements so far. Even, in the last governorship debate, PDP’s candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede SAN, in the heat of the debate only concluded in his speech that he would improve on Aketi’s achievements, i.e Aketi has tried.

    AWOLOWO AS A SAGE

One of arch opponents of Chief Obafemi Awolowo , Chief Odimegwu Ojukwu, the Ikemba of Nnewi, once eulogized Awolowo when he died as the best president Nigeria never had. Chief Awo, during his days, was a toast of people like Chief Nkwame Nkruma, who led Ghana as her president between 1957 to 1966. He believed so much in Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s visions. When Awo was being tried in a court of law for treasonable felony against Alhaji Tafawa Balewa led federal government, he was alleged to have had the backing of the then Ghanian’s president, Chief Kwame Nkruma. The foresight of Chief Obafemi Awolowo was just beyond comprehension, the first television station in the world was established in 1928, Schenectady, New York i.e “WRGB” or “W2XB” television station . In almost 31 years after invention, 31st of Oct.,1959 to be exact, Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo ensured that western Nigeria had her first television station in Africa, the western Nigeria Broadcasting corporation, Ibadan. Some countries in the world, even some Eastern Europe were yet to get any television station then.

Without oil derivations, the resources at Awo’s disposal for internally generated revenues were the cash crops. He was able to build 25- storey building in Ibadan, named Cocoa house. The first stadium in Africa was constructed by Awolowo and commissioned in 1960, hosted the first ever world boxing match in Africa in which Nigeria’s “Dick Tigger” defeated America’s “Gene Fullmer” to win world middle weight boxing title. The road constructions under his regime in Western Nigeria were far apart to his contemporaries in Eastern and Northern parts of the country.

He stole the hearts of our forefathers with the introduction of free primary education to pupils of this region of the country. To our forefathers, who prided themselves in polygamous family settings, it was a huge relief for them. Electrification of Yoruba land was at topmost gear, the establishment of University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife was this man’s idea, I stand to corrected, this is the most beautiful campus in Africa. You can now imagine the level of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s intelligence quotient ( *IQ*). Chief Ojukwu didn’t make any mistake for calling Chief Awolowo the best president Nigeria never had. Just imagine he was able to rule Nigeria with all these ideas, only God knows where we would be by now.

THE MAKING OF AKETI AS A SAGE

The new dispensation of politics in Nigeria is the bastardized version, from ideology driven political era of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Nnamdi Azikwe, Sir Ladoke Akintola, Sir Festus Okotiebo, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello and co, to present day money driven or money bags politics. Though Aketi made his name from activism, dated back to the undergraduate days , Nigeria Bar Association, where he unprecedentedly served as her president twice and finally found himself in murky water of politics of Nigeria.

He eventually became the governor of the state in 2016, with what he met on ground, i.e state economy in a mess, the then outgoing government who met 48 billions naira in state coffers, left the state indebted with 7 months salary arrears of civil servants. Arakunrin was forced to take some drastic actions, though painful but highly rewarding. The state “IGR” internally generated revenues increased to enviable status of 2 billion naira monthly and not yet satisfied, Arakunrin wants the state to be viable, not depending on monthly federal allocations for survival, he took after the Lagos State during Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu’s led government that liberated Lagos State. Time will fail me to mention various projects started by the Aketi led government, some have been commissioned, some are ongoing, some are about to be started, if you are in doubt, just move around Ondo state, you will see yourself.

NOW MARIJUANA (INDIAN HEMP) HAS BEEN VOTED OUT OF NARCOTICS BY UNITED NATION

I remember vividly that oppositions in the state, as usual, sent their missiles of attack i.e the media wars against Aketi when he advised the federal government to tap into the illicit indian hemp cultivation that is rampant in the state, that they should be cultivated under controlled environments for revenue generations for state and Nigeria, because it’s being used for medical purposes in western countries. His advice was turned down, some even ignorantly accused him of being high on indian hemp.

The recent meeting of United Nations Commission, indian hemp was voted out of the list of dangerous narcotic drugs, I5 states in United States of America have legalized it for medical uses while countries like Canada and others have also followed suit. Hope the oppositions in the state will now respect Aketi for his foresight?

    IN CONCLUSION

Aketi started well and I believe he will end well, his visions for the state are great, my prayer is that God will help him to overcome the present challenge of paucity of cash as a result of globally felt economic meltdown. I believe Nigeria’s economy will bounce back, he will pay the backlogs of salary arrears in the state, so that Ondo state civil servants can be happy again which is Aketi’s desire. The rare quality of Chief Obafemi Awolowo to think ahead that liberated Yoruba land, i.e foresight, which Aketi also possessed, I believe this will liberate Ondo state.

  • Join hands with me to sanitize Okitipupa, LG boss urges youth

    by

In a bid to curb the Ondo South Senatorial District of cultism, the Executive Chairman of Okitipupa local government, Mr. Igbekele Akinrinwa has urged the youths and the entire populace in Okitipupa to join hands with him to sanitize the town.

The Chairman stated this while reacting to a news going around the town that he ordered for the arrest of some suspected cultist in the area.

It would be recalled that seven days ago, some youths had engaged in cult feud and some reported died in the warring areas.

This made the Chairman in a patrol, alongside with some security, last Friday 14 May 2021, raided the Local Government secretariat after being tipped that some suspected cultists were sighted at the LG Secretariat complex in which their mission were not known.

Akinrinwa, rushed to the spot and two suspects were arrested by the security agents.

According to the chairman, “I believe those arrested should be able to convince the security enough that they are not cultists and not spreading lies about what actually happened”.

“Out of thousands of people at the NIN registration center, one would imagine why only two people were arrested as suspects .The registration exercise was not stopped as claimed but temporary halted for ten (10) minutes during the process of arresting the suspects.

“I humbly urge the politicians not to politicize this issue beyond normal.” He pleaded.

He however appealed to everyone to stop fabricating lies, but rather join hands with him to sanitize the town.

  • Why Abena is the best man to lead SWAGA 23 In Ondo State – Dr. Akeredolu O.N

…he is a politician who knows his onions, I’m sure he will deliver in this new assignment

    INTRODUCTION

The South West Agenda for Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu’s presidency in 2023, a voluntary organization with the mandate for actualization of the presidency aspiration of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, the Jagaban of Borgu. This group which came to Ondo state to launch the state chapter of the organization, having done the similar launching in most of the states of Southwest, to be led by a respected and seasoned politician who knows his onions in the game of politics, Chief Ifedayo Abegunde, popularly called Abena.

You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you what the outcome of this new organization considering the crop of politicians who are her members, they will definitely deliver in this agenda. From the national chairman, Senator Adebayo clement Adeyeye, a seasoned politician from Ekiti state, who had served in various capacities from minister of federal republic of Nigeria, as chairman and member of various boards, to being a Senator of Nigeria. He was a veteran governorship aspirant in Ekiti state in which he contested severally to serve the people . In a nutshell, there is no better leader when it comes to grassroot issues in Southwest.

The history of Yoruba race is noted for a voice in various aspirations in the past. Our patriarch, Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, who was the first premier of the region who did a lot of exploits for the region and one of the most celebrated Yoruba sons who ever lived on the surface of the Earth. The Yorubas would come together to support Chief Awolowo’s aspiration. This great man contested three times for presidency of this great country in which he enjoyed the supports of Yorubas in all these periods.

The first time was in 1959 as Action Group, the second time was 1979 and the last time was 1983 of Unity Party of Nigeria before his glorious exit from the world in 1988, not without some saboteurs as expected, though some of them paid for their treacherous behaviors with their lives. During late Chief M.K.O Abiola’s presidential aspiration in 1993 to1998, Yorubas stood with him during this dark period.

The SWAGA has started on a good note and the acceptability among the descendants of Oduduwa is very encouraging. With the attractive antecedents of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu , The launching of this program was glorious in Ondo state in which the biggest event centre( Dome event centre) in the state was filled to capacity and our kings who are Yoruba traditional leaders spoke their minds in supports of Asiwaju’s aspiration, the joyous radiance on the faces of people during the event shows Ondo state people love Sen.Ahmed Tinubu.

HON. IFEDAYO ABEGUNDE, ABENA, THE BEST FOR THE JOB

Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde a.k.a Abena, is a man of destiny, I once heard an unconfirmed story when he was still busied with his business in USA where he resided for several decades, he came to Nigeria, his properties were stolen, some people went to pray about the incidence, in which a seer told them that the owner of the stolen properties ( Abena) would still be a great political leader, so he was destined to be great by God not by accident.

When the time for the fulfilment of the prophecy came, he had the passion to touch the lives of his people, he showed interest in the house of Representatives, he wanted to contest under the platform of Alliance for Democracy in 2003 but he changed his mind and chose PDP. As a man of destiny, he won and repeated the winning spree in 2011 under LP.

Ability of Hon. Abena to see beyond his colleagues in political arena is not in doubt. When his friend and governor of the state then Dr Mimiko became unfriendly to him, when he was in house of Rep., without thinking twice he left the ruling party of LP in Ondo state and join the Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu’s ACN which was in opposition, he was also there for Aketi in 2012, 2016 and last election of 2020.

Having served as a house of Rep. member twice, chairman board of afforestation in Ondo state, governorship aspirant, senatorial aspirant and secretary to state government in the past, the recent appointment by national body as the state coordinator is a round peg in round hole and without iota of doubt, he will deliver in this new assignment.

    IN CONCLUSION

One thing is certain about Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, apart from being Frank and blunt i.e a leader without deceits , his passion to deliver in anything that he set his mind to do is second to none. The commitment of this great former parliamentarian to Aketi agenda in 2016 through the popular Aketi team which was among the trusted pillars who worked with everything at their disposal to ensure victory for our Arakunrin can’t be overemphasized.

The launching of the state chapter which was done some weeks ago in the state as expected, it was glorious and we believe Hon. Abena gives his best as usual and Ondo state is a second home of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.
