  • Armed robbers attack bullion van in Ondo

    by

two feared dead as undisclosed sum of money carted away

Two persons were feared killed as some men suspected to be armed robbers attacked a bullion van at Elemosho Village along Akure-Ondo Expressway in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State on Thursday evening.

According to an eyewitness, the robbers waylaid and attacked the bullion van belonging to one of the commercial banks, which was heading towards Akure the state capital about 5pm, and made away with an undisclosed sum of money.

The eyewitness said in the operation which lasted about 20 minutes, the robbers shot three people and ran away into the bush.

On hearing the sporadic gunshots, the villagers were said to have run into the bush for safety.

He said, “The robbers came to the scene in a Lexus car and waylaid the convoy of the bullion van. They vandalised two out of the three vehicles in the convoy with bullets. They shot three people before they ran away into the bush. One of the victims was alive while it was not sure whether the other two survived it.”

The eyewitness added that the men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, were invited to the scene and took one victim to the hospital.

In a reaction, the Commander of the Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, who confirmed the incident, said his men took one of the people that were shot to the hospital.

He also said there was no life lost in the attack.

Adeleye said, “When we got the information, my men moved in there and met one of the persons that were shot at the scene and we have taken him to the hospital.”

Similarly, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, said the robbers had run away before the security men got to the scene.

He said the command had commenced investigation into the incident and the detectives from the command had been on the trail of the attackers.

  • Insecurity: Akeredolu warns against individual with illegal weapon

    by

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has directed security agencies that any individual found with illegal weapon should be arrested and prosecuted.

Akeredolu, while addressing the good people of Ondo State on one of the state owned Radio station 96.5Fm, Instructed that the security agencies should confront with renewed vigour, all criminal elements in the State. Any herder who is not properly registered in our forest reserves should vacate the place, he reiterated.

He said “The different shades of insecurity have not only taken an appreciable toll on governance; our focuses as a people for our individual endeavours have been brazenly compromised and distastefully distracted.”

“It is obvious that our Armed Forces and other security agencies, in spite of their patriotism and displayed zeal, appear to be overstretched if not overwhelmed by these enormous security challenges. Understandably too, our dear State like others, is encumbered for obvious reasons, in its avowed efforts to stem this ugly tide.”

He added” we have noticed some serious matters that we need to address before they degenerate into an unmanageable proportion. These include but not limited to the following areas: Influx of strange faces into our State; Activities of cultists; Irresponsible use of the social media; Chieftaincy tussles and Land disputes.”

It will be recalled that about 42 persons whose suspicious presence had caused a security scare around the Army Barracks, Okitipupa some days ago, obviously created some level of curiosity and anxiety.

Besides, those persons who were allegedly transported from the North for a non-existent security training have since been profiled by Amotekun Corps before repatriation to their respective States.

“The third major concern that we need to address is the abuse of the social media to propagate false and fake news.

This unfortunate phenomenon is capable of stoking the embers of disunity and serious security breaches. The social media is almost becoming an unavoidable part of our society as its advent has democratised, deregulated and liberalised the means of news production and dissemination.

Unfortunately however, it has also become a breeding ground for spreading fake news. Akeredolu admonished.

  • Akeredolu commissions UNIMED’S school of public health

    by

…says he Is committed to the growth of the Institution

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has commissioned the School of the Public Health of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.

The School of Public Health, Centre For Herbal Medicine and Drug Production is located at Bolorunduro, Ondo East Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor also performed the foundation-laying of Hon. and Dr (Mrs) Abiola Makinde’s Health Center at the school.

Reiterating his commitment to the growth of UMIMED, Governor Akeredolu noted that the take-off of the School Of Public Health perfectly accords with his administration’s vision of improving the health of the people and boosting educational development.

Governor Akeredolu identified health and education as the two major pillars of human development.

He said health and educational advancement are key elements in his government’s visionary plan to move the state to the next level, noting that the School of Public Health provides a strategic nexus to his vision.

The Governor explained that with the health problems confronting the people being mostly preventable or easily treatable, public health, with its strong focus on prevention and high emphasis on empowering community and households to make healthy choices, holds a strategic place in the mission of ensuring that the population and communities are healthy.

“Indeed, conditions like malaria, diarrhoea, and malnutrition are, unfortunately, still common causes of illness and death among our under-5 children in Nigeria.

“Pregnancy-related complications, including unsafe abortions, remain leading causes of death among our women.

“Drug abuse and mental health problems are currently growing at an alarming rate among our youth, while the rate of non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes is increasing among our elderly population.

“This situation calls for vigorous public health interventions and thus, challenges government at various levels in Nigeria to make greater investments in public health infrastructure and manpower development,” he said.

Governor Akeredolu expressed the belief that the research output of the school will also help in addressing some of the major health problems confronting the people.

He called for the support of indigenes of the state as well as public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations across the country and beyond to help support the institution.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Adesegun Fatusi, appreciated the commitment of Governor Akeredolu to the development of the institution.

“Mr Governor, Sir, without your kind and pragmatic action of approving this facility, originally designed to host a model secondary school, and provision of some financial support to undertake some renovation, the dream of starting this School would still have remained a “paperwork”, he said.

  • Akeredolu commiserates with Pastor Adeboye over the death of his Son

    by

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has commiserated with the General-Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) over the death of his son, Pastor Dare Adeboye.

Governor Akeredolu described the sudden death of the late Dare as tragic and a huge loss to the Christendom, Adeboye’s dynasty and the youths considering the role of the deceased in youth mentorship as an Assistant Pastor in charge of Region (Youth) 35.

“Undoubtedly, if Christ tarries, no one is excused from the tragic end of death. What is most desirable is that we all come of ripe age and live our lives well in the hope that we bury our parents and not the other way round.

“It becomes devastating when a father experiences this kind of loss. This is indeed a big blow to take. Pastor Dare was a promising servant of God. His death in his prime is, to say the least, excruciatingly painful.

“While we condole with our father in Lord, Pastor E.A Adeboye, and the entire family of RCCG worldwide on this irreplaceable loss, we urge Pastor Adeboye to take solace in the words of God: “He gives and takes. He is an unquestionable God.”

Governor Akeredolu says Pastor Adeboye has been a great benefactor of the state through the RCCG’s many interventions, adding that the state will continue to pray for him.

He prays that the good Lord will reward the late Pastor Dare with eternal rest and peace in the bosom of his creator.

  • Ondo Central 2023, Why Akure (North, South And Ifedore) Must Produce The Next Senator – Dr. Akeredolu O.N

Ondo(Ondo East and West) spent 12 years, Akure ( North , South and Ifedore) spent 4 years, Idanre will be spending 8 years by 2023

    INTRODUCTION

Ondo central senatorial district comprises six local governments, namely, Idanre, Akure South, Akure North, Ifedore, Ondo East and West local governments. It has three ethnic groups, Ondo which has Ondo East and West, Idanre which has Idanre local government and it’s historically related to Ondo people and Akure which has the Akure South, North and Ifedore local governments.

Akure people remain the largest population in the state and like other communities in Yoruba, has many kings and Olus with Deji of Akure being the paramount ruler. Akure has many communities such as Akure which is cultural, economical , historical and political headquarters of other Akure communities e.g Oba, Iju, Itaogbolu, Ilara, Ipogun, Igbaraoke, Isinigbo, Oda, Daada, Ala-elefosan , Aye, Osi and numerous towns and villages of Akure.

Akure supposed to be the domineering force in the politics of Ondo central vis a vis Ondo state, considering her population which is almost one-fourth of the entire Ondo state and more than sixty percent of Ondo central. The surprising thing is that despite the population strength, enlightenment, illustrious sons of these great and accommodative people of Akure, it remains one of the politically crawling communities in the state.

This could be traced to the division among the Akure communities. It is a general modern day political tool for communities of the same historical and cultural background to come together for a stronger voice to their advantage. The lesson from Owo/Ose people who always see themselves as one, this has worked for them and they have produced governors twice both of Pa Adekunle Ajasin and our present Arakunrin.

Thanks to the present Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, who has been doing everything possible to erase the bad notion of Akure town and Akure village dichotomy (Akure ile and Akure oko ) as composed into a ridiculous lyrics as ‘ Me ma i s’akure oko , Akure Oyemekun’ i.e (I’m not from Akure village but from Akure Oyemekun). This dichotomous behavior of political elites of Akure in the past in which they presented people from other communities of Akure as not bonafide members of Akure during political contests.

These efforts of Deji have been yielding results, the age long dream of Federal University of Technology, Akure, having a medical school became a reality . The sons of Akure communities came together for this purpose, the struggle was spearheaded by Senator Tayo Alasoadura who has his father from Iju and mother from Akure town. Any moment from now, FUTA will start admitting students to their Medical school, this was a good test of their unity.

    ONDO SPENT 12 YEARS

Senator Gbenga Ogunniya from Ondo town i.e Ondo East and West, showed interest to contest for Senate under the platform of Alliance for Democracy in 1998, when politics was about to take shape. Also, Chief Kayode Faloye from Akure town showed interest in the same party, but Chief Olu Falae, an Akure Chief was being envisaged as their presidential candidate, Akure couldn’t have had President and Senator at the same time, Dr. Gbenga Ogunniya was favored by the permutation and ended as a Senator for the first four years.

In 2003, he decamped to PDP and contested against Chief Kayode Faloye of AD and won the election like most of PDP candidates in the state, that was the year Alliance for Democracy as a party suffered the greatest defeat in Nigeria political history in which they lost five out of the six states which it held sway in four years earlier.

Dr. Gbenga Ogunniya also repeated this unbeaten run in 2007 under the platform of PDP, contesting for 3rd term but lost the fourth attempt to Senator Akinyelure of LP, through the help of Ondo state political genius, Dr. Mimiko. However, Dr. Gbenga Ogunniya remains the longest serving Senator from Ondo state, followed by Senator Ajayi Boroffice who is currently serving his third term in Red chamber.

    SENATOR AKINYELURE AND SENATOR ALASOADURA

Senator Ayo Akinyelure came with his erstwhile political godfather, Dr. Mimiko in 2007 as the senatorial candidate of Labour party but lost to Dr. Gbenga Ogunniya of PDP. There was a replay match in 2011 in which Senator Akinyelure represented LP and veteran Dr. Ogunniya wanted to go to senate for fourth term without any tangible representation or laudable projects to his name in the three previous terms.

Sen. Akinyelure won his second attempt in 2011 and lost the third attempt to a grass-rooter par excellence and political juggernaut of Akure offshoot, Senator Donald Tayo Alasoadura of APC in 2015 and represented Ondo central between 2015 to 2019 as the only Akure to have held the position for years in this over 20 – year old political dispensation

Ondo central 2019 senatorial election was more dramatic in nature with ZLP presented Dr.Mimiko , Senator Akinyelure of PDP and Chief Tayo Alasoadura of APC.The internal crisis within the state chapter of APC coupled with some unexpected saboteurs among the APC members, the victory was cheap for Sen. Akinyelure of PDP from Idanre, he won the 2019 political contest. By the end of this term, Idanre must have spent eight years in the Red chamber.

    IN CONCLUSION

Like my father, the Alani of Idoani, Major Gen. Olufemi Olutoye would say, it is God that gives position but you won’t sleep in your house, doing nothing and expect God to put you in position. What this great man (who was among the first seven graduates to join Nigeria army ) is saying in essence is that you must also make efforts.

Akure( North, South and Ifedore) should call themselves together as 2023 is approaching and ensure that they use their population strength to take what belongs to them. According to the present Deji of Akure, there is no more Akure town or Akure village, Akure is one.

  • Update: Rev. Father Mbaka found

Reverend Father Mbaka has been found after being declared him missing by Ohanaeze youth.

It was learnt that Father Ejike Ebaka, was on a special mission to his boss, the Diocesan Bishop of Enugu.

  • OYC gives FG 48 hours to produce Father Mbaka

    by

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, on Wednesday raised the alarm over the whereabouts of the fiery Enugu priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.

The cleric of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, has been in the news after he asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign.

This was followed by a revelation by the presidency that he was attacking Buhari because he was refused a contract.

Ohanaeze Youth Council has now claimed that the priest was missing.
In a statement issued by the President-General of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he said Mbaka was last seen on Tuesday, adding that every effort to trace him had failed.

“We have it on good authority that his aides have neither seen nor heard from him since Tuesday.

“Calls put to his mobile line have also remained unanswered; this has now prompted us to issue this alarm as we would not take it lightly should anything untoward happen to him.

“We are giving the Federal Government 48 hours to produce the priest, else they should be ready to face Igbo youths. They were dining and wining with him all along and now that he told the truth, they are no longer comfortable with him.

“Let nothing happen to Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka. It will not be in anybody’s interest,” the group warned.
Meanwhile, reporters reached out to close aides of the Catholic Cleric but they declined comment, noting that the picture was not clear yet.

“Today is the Wednesday programme, ‘E no dey again’, if he don’t officiate, it will then be clear that something is wrong,” one of them said.
But a source who refused to be named disclosed that he was last seen yesterday, Tuesday, when he departed to honour an invitation by his Bishop.

DAILY POST learnt that following the apprehension, all the youths of the ministry have been summoned to the Adoration ground.

The message inviting the youths to the Adoration ground, obtained by reporters read,

    “Important!
“Good morning friends and well-wishers. Please if you know you stand for justice and you do not want the lone voice that speaks for the poor in this country to be silenced, gather at Adoration ground let’s go for a protest at the Bishops court.
“Fr. Mbaka is nowhere to be found. He went yesterday to answer the Bishop’s call and up till now, he’s not taking his calls. Let’s gather! SSG.”

  • Crocodile tears of Gov. Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State – Dr. Akeredolu O.N

God has vindicated Gov. Akeredolu of Ondo state, he( Bala Mohammed) should come to Ondo state to learn about Amotekun security corps and replicate it in Bauchi state instead of this crocodile tears.

    INTRODUCTION

It’s only God who knows the intractable problems of northern leaders. Sometimes, you will wonder about their reasonings. It’s inferred that Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state was crying for help over the influx of bandits/boko haram members into the four local governments of his state that bordered Yobe state . In the same vein, the present secretary to state government of Bauchi state was quoted by gentlemen of the press, lamenting to the world on behalf of Gov. Bala Mohammed, of the impending danger of the incidence.

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state was among some northern leaders who verbally attacked Gov. Akeredolu of Ondo state at the inception of Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly called Amotekun, when it was noticed by our Mr. governor of the incessant kidnappings and rapings by the Fulani herdsmen in the state. After painstaking analysis of security reports, having lost some prominent people in the state to the nefarious activities of these street urchins, including a first class king in the state, Olufon of Ifon, a neighboring town to Mr. governor’s town, Arakunrin decided to champion the course of a paramilitary group tagged Amotekun with the responsibility of taming these unpleasant scenarios

These Northern leaders came up with their bigotry thinking, calling Ondo state governor all sorts of names, thinking they could cow him to desist from what is right for the security of lives and properties in the state. I remember vividly that some of them called him uneducated Senior Advocate of Nigeria( S.A.N). Unfortunately for them, our Mr.governor is not a coward, Arakunrin never gave a damn, today Amotekun has come to stay and performing wonderfully well in assisting overwhelmed federal government security agencies in state . Also, the people of Ondo state and Yorubas deserve accolades for standing solidly behind Gov. Akeredolu during this period of intimidations from Fulanis and our Arakunrin never succumbed to their blackmails.

FULANI LEADERS ARE THE PROBLEMS OF THE NORTH

Having failed in their responsibilities of liberating their people through education and some programs to bring them to reality of twenty- first century on nomadic farming, they thought they could blackmail our governor( Gov. Akeredolu) to their unrealistic nepotic reasoning. How on earth would a crop of people come to another people’s land and be kidnapping raping and robbing their landlords and their senseless leaders want the land owners to fold their hands and watch the marauders having a field day? Who does that? Can the Fulani leaders too allow foreigners to do that to them? Now, why the crocodile tears from Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state? He should try to live by his words to us in Ondo state.

He presumably advised that our governor should not evict these criminal elements, illegally occupying in our Forests, who have turned these areas to their evil zones where kidnappings, raping and other nefarious activities have been carried out. Following the actions of our Mr. governor through his capable assistants on security matters and untiring efforts of Amotekun corps, the security situation in the state has significantly improved, the spate of kidnapping has reduced and the senseless destruction of farm lands by the so called animals in human form drastically brought to the lowest ebb by the actions of of our Mr. governor.

In all fairness, we have some good Fulani leaders who are indeed reasonable in their deeds, one of them is the present Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saidu Abubakar, who openly admitted and condemned the actions of bad eggs among the Fulani herdsmen. Supporting bad people because they’re your tribesmen is evil, anti-moral, anti-Islamic and anti-Biblical, I don’t know the reference point of this their leader( Bala Mohammed).

For Gov. Bala Mohammed to be crying now because the bandits/boko haram members have infiltrated some local governments of his state, believing the security of his people is under threats, having earlier condemned governor of Ondo state who had taken proactive steps in curtailing the likelihood of security breech in his ( Aketi) state. This has shown the whole world the myopic thinking of this Bauchi state governor.

From Zamfara , Southern Kaduna, Borno, Yobe , now to Bauchi state, the level of insecurity In these states, number of lives lost per day and properties destroyed are emergency national issues. Condoling criminals by some Fulani leaders in the name of nepotism or politics is what has brought the evils upon some of the northern states. Late President Shehu Shagari was overthrown by the same Fulanis he promoted in the military and these same Fulani officers unusually benefitted in his government according to his son’s statement.

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, the acclaimed Messiah of Fulani nation( that was his title then when he was attacking Gov. Akeredolu of Ondo state) is now crying when his people ( bandits / bokoharam) infiltrated his state, he should not cry because it is the same Fulani nation. It should be noted that the same bandits/ bokoharam members just kidnapped chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Kogi state chapter. It is also on record that lots of havocs were wrecked on Fulanis of the various villages of the North by these bandits, cattle rustlers and bokoharam members who are majorly Fulanis.

What people like Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state and others who criticized Gov. Akeredolu of Ondo state for taking the security of his people serious, don’t know is that issue of security should never be seen with nepotic views, now the reality has dawned on them.

    IN CONCLUSION

We in Ondo state are solidly behind Arakunrin i.e Ondo State governor who is doing his best to secure the lives and properties of the people in the state. Apart from this, our governor is also performing wonderfully in other sectors of the economy despite the militating & unpalatable factors and meagre resources at his disposal. This is evidenced in that we don’t have any course to panick like the people and government of Bauchi state because of proactive steps taken by our governor when necessary.

We also want the whole world to know that the rate of kidnappings, rapings and robberies has reduced in the state, we believe in our Mr. governor, he is doing well in the state. We also advise that governors like Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state should come to Ondo state and learn the modus operandi of Amotekun security, so as to replicate it in their various states before it is too late.
