A newly founded Ikale Club has urged philanthropists in Ondo State and Nigeria to genuinely donate to community development through investment in human and social amenities for the interest of the country.
Dr Bamidele Fagbohunka, President of Ikale Club disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday during the first General Meeting of the club in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the club was inaugurated on Dec. 27, 2023 by sons and daughters of Ikale to foster and enhance the development of Ikale land.
Fagbohunka said that philanthropy should not be borne out of economic or political gains for it to achieve its desired purpose.
The don added that putting resources in genuine philanthropy in the communities would help in the socio-economic growth and development of the country.
He urged kind-hearted Nigerians to channel their resources to youth empowerment, educational scholarships, building of recreation facilities, skills acquisition centres, sports centres, road maintenance and solar light installations among others, thus helping in developing their communities.
“I urge those who have the resources and wherewithal to invest in human, social and community development for vast economic growth of the state and the country at large.
“Their investment in youth empowerment, educational scholarships, recreation facilities, skills acquisition, sports centres, solar light installations, road maintenance and others will go a long way in developing our communities and the country at large,” he said.
According to him, the club is a non-political, non-religious and non-tribal organisation, saying it is open to Ikale indigenes both at home and in the diaspora.
He said that the club was established with the aim of fostering vast development of Ikaleland.
“Ikale Club is dedicated to promoting intellectual, social, cultural, sporting and recreational interests for the overall development of Ikale land and membership is based on principles of openness and non-discrimination.
“We are reaching out to philanthropists, both Ikales and non-Ikales, who have the genuine mind of investing in human, social and community development to join us,” the president said.
NAN also reports that the Abodi of Ikaleland, Oba Babatunde Faduyile, and the Jagunmolu of Ikaleland, Retired Gen. Olu Bajowa, are patrons as well as esteemed sons and daughters of Ikaleland as executive of the club. (NAN)
In continuation of his contributions to the growth of the people in his constituency, Senator Representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Adeniyi Adegbonmire SAN has again put smile to the residents of Old Board Road, Oda Community in Akure South Local Government by helping them to fix their road which has been abadoned over the years.
The landlords and residents of the community who couldn’t hide their joy were full of appreciation to the federal lawmaker for his kind gesture.
Speaking at the project site, Adegbonmire who was represented by one of his aides, Engr. Kolawole Olusegun told newsmen that the project was done by the Senator in order to reduce the challenges and difficulties being experienced by residents, motorists and other users of the road on daily basis.
He added that lawmaker is committed to the welfare and well-being of the people he represents at the Senate and he will continue to deliver on his electoral promises.
In his own remarks, the vice chairman of the community, Mr. Yusufu Idowu said the community road has been so terrible and they have been helpless over the years.
He described the Senator Adegbonmire as God sent and assured him of their unflinching support at any given time.
Also, Mrs. Eniola Taiwo , a landlady who doubles as the secretary of the community lamented on their difficult experiences most especially during the rainy season when flooding is always the order of the day.
She therefore commended the efforts of the Senator and described it as very motivating.

In a bid to contribute to Sports development in Ondo State, Legacy Elite Club has built and donated an Ultra modern Basketball & Volleyball court to Akure Secondary Commercial School, Akure.
President of Legacy Elite Club and old student of the school, Prince Matthew Adegoke in a chat with newsmen said the club decided to build the facility to encourage the students in the area of extra curriculum activities.
Adegoke added that his goal has been to see one of Akure Secondary Commercial students in National Basketball Association (NBA), saying that was the major reason he built the court for the school.
“I was a footballer, in fact I played for this great school when I was here as a student, but later I developed keen interest on Basketball”.
“I appeal to parents to encourage their children to participate in sports of their choice, sports is a lucrative business and everything is not about academic certificate, we should allow these students to showcase their God giving talents in the sports of their choice”.
“We are going to put a very good maintenance mechanism in place to ensure the facility is well used.”
While speaking, Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology ,Mrs Adegoke Folasade Abimbola has appealed to private individuals and corporate bodies to join hands with the government to develop sports in Ondo State.
The permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director of Schools in the ministry, Dr Ige Akindele Matthew, commending the donor of the multipurpose court and charged other well to do in the society to contribute to the development of sports in the state.
Abimbola said: “Government can not develop sports alone, therefore, I call on all well to do in the society both at home and in diaspora to join hands with government to return the state’s sports sector to its former status , where Ondo state leads and others follow.
“What you have done for this School is of great importance. I can assure you that these students will remember you for good in future.
In his welcome address, the principal of the school, Mrs Stella Akinbohun thanked the donor for remembering his alma mater and for investing his hard earned money towards the completion of the project.
She emphasized the need for more hands to compliment government’s efforts in sports development.

Sunshine Queens Football Club of Akure have been urged to have confidence and believe in themselves as they play host to Rivers Angels in the Matchday 12 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
Sunshine Queens had lost 3-0 to Rivers Angels at the Adokie Amesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt in the match day four of the women league.
He added that his side is tactically sound and ready to deliver.
Oladimeji said: “Akure stadium has now become a fortress for us, after losing 1-0 to Edo Queens in the first round of the league, we have not lost any game in our home ground and we are not going to lose any game here again.”
The head coach of the team, Oladimeji Abimbola stated this in a chat with team’s media in Akure, the state capital ahead of the must-win game for the side.
He disclosed that his side has changed their approach to games, saying the new approach is working perfectly for his team.
According to him, football is not about name, but about doing the right thing at the right time.
“I believe and trust my players because they will deliver and make our fans happy securing the maximum points.
Meanwhile, one of the Sunshine Queens players, Taiwo Ajibade was named in the NWFL matchday 10 team of the week .
While speaking, Ajibade thanked God, teammates and commended her coaches for the feat, saying it was team work that led to her inclusion in the team of the week.
