Prince Emorioloye Owolemi on Criminal Behaviors, the need for security agencies to work with the NCC, and the need for sincerity among Security leaders
The president reacted to the incident at Delta State where many soldiers were ambushed and killed along with the Commanding Officer and other ranked officers, granting full authority to the Military chiefs to arrest the situation. Condemnable as the event and many other situations like such across Nigeria, most especially in North East Nigeria, the president should be aware of criminals’ mode of dealings in Nigeria.
By granting full Authority to the army in Delta State, there are invariable means that the power of the constitutional Governor of Delta State is postponed indefinitely until the army is through unraveling the circumstances surrounding the killings and arrests perpetrators. In a situation of Such, it is known as an indirect state of emergency.
The president should mandate the army and other security agencies across Nigeria to put sincerity first in all of their dealings to prevent the occasion of such in the future and prevent the youth from self-help. It was obvious that the circumstances in Delta State should have been prevented if only the army acted with sincerity and Neutrality.
A reliable source for the unfortunate incident revealed that two communities in the incident were having a land dispute issues, and a favoritism path was played on the side of the army that was supposed to be neutral and make peace, so the army was reportedly killed two of the youth in the affected weak community in favor of other community that higher the service of the army.
Security agencies are meant to protect the lives and properties of individuals across the nation and to serve as Middlemen, not as Lord over civilians. Security agencies should be stopped from having authority over the people while enforcing the laws and making issues the way it supposed to be by listening to all parties and investigating before concluding while the competent court would still maintain a fair hearing.
Whenever criminals commit offensive activities, the lives of the people both the rich and the poor always become risky for the nation over persistent methods of arresting the situations.
In River State where a DPO was murdered by a group of suspected cultists, five identified youths helping the security agencies in unveiling the situation got lost, and several unidentified victims were in the hands of the suspect who was later murdered by the security agencies.
The fact for determination in such situations was whether or not the community people didn’t contribute to helping the security agencies before the incident occurred while the same community people still lost their lives thereafter by helping the security agencies to arrest the prime suspect.
In Nigeria, the criminals are well-connected with information and wiser than the security agencies. Immediately they committed their respective evils, they set several machinery outside to monitor security agencies’ movement and activities, and ever ready for those who came for them, they surrounded themselves with the people. The people they surround themselves with will also be monitored by themselves if they make the move to signal security agencies, they will be murdered. If security agencies eventually traced any of the whereabouts, there would surely be an exchange of bullets counting several loss of lives on both sides and the innocent citizens they were surrounded.
There are no isolated areas in Nigeria coverage networking max, and the mentality of the military is that the criminals will not be reasonable to the extent of isolating themselves in a circle areas whenever they commit, they are wiser to the extent of preventing innocent citizens from leaving the community because they need both of the innocent citizens and the criminals themselves for treatment, foods, arms, and others.
As a Nigerian in the criminology aspect, I believe that the Government has failed both the people and the security agencies. Whenever Criminals commit a kidnap, they usually call the families for ransom, and the calls map will appear in the communication network provider whether through the victim’s sim or the criminal’s sim, how come criminals usually get away with it without arrest?
If the office of the security Adviser to the president could detain foreign suspects and they eventually escaped from detention to the extent of leaving Nigeria for their country, it means the president himself is not safe in Aso Rock.
There is a need for urgent restructuring of the system, while the Government takes land ownership no individuals or community will have any claims for land across the country and the state governors move for compliance, a round table to unravel the security threat to the nation, and NCC needs of sincerity and monitoring are expected through this letter.
Thank you, your Excellency
