– Directs security agencies to arrest perpetrators
The attention of Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has been drawn to reports of alleged attacks on some persons and destruction of campaign materials in the wake of the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the State on Wednesday.
The Governor says his administration will not tolerate any form of violence that is capable of threatening the peace and tranquility of the State.
As the Governor has said repeatedly, any political campaign that disturbs the peace in the State is unacceptable and must be met with the decisive actions of law enforcement agencies.
It is pertinent to make it clear that nobody associated with the Governor or the government of Ondo State was involved in any of the reported activities ascribed to “political thugs” during the President’s visit to Owo and Akure.
The Governor has therefore asked law enforcement agencies in the State to arrest and prosecute anyone found to be engaged in such violent activities.
The Governor urges politicians and their followers to ensure that their campaings are issue based, devoid of blackmail, spreading falsehood, inciting the public, and intimidating opponents.

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the payment of three months of the outstanding salary arrears for workers of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo
The three months arrears were paid to the workers on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Mr. Adegun Simon Olorunwa, confirmed the payment on Thursday, thanking the Governor for fulfilling his promise to resolve the lindering salary challenge of the institution.
The Governor had recently promissed that his administration would work on resolving some of the major challenges facing the institution.
The Governor gave the assurance while addressing thousands of the students who met him at the gate of the school in Owo on his way to Ikare Akoko two weeks ago.
The students had given the Governor and his entourage a rousing reception, shantung solidarity songs and urging the Governor to address them.
The Governor, who thanked the students for the warm reception, said he was aware of some of the challenges facing the institution, especially the issues of arrears of salaries and entitlement of teaching and non-teaching staff.
On the directive of the Governor, the Head of Service of the State, Pastor Kayode Ogundele, had engaged the management of the institution towards finding lasting solutions to the issues that have threatened to cripple the academic calendar of the institution in recent years.

Says the poor, the elderly, and the vulnerable would enjoy free allocation
Ogun State has purchased 100 trucks load of rice to be sold at cheaper rates to residents of the state to cushion the effect of the rise in the prices of goods in the country.
The state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this on Wednesday while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Prince Abiodun disclosed that the rice would be subsidized and made available at the rate it was before the recent astronomical rise in the prices of the commodities.
He, however, said the poor, the elderly, and the vulnerable would enjoy free allocation.
“We have decided to give our people foodstuffs like rice, garri, beans. I have ordered almost 100 trailers of rice, they will start offloading them tomorrow (today).
“We have decided that the poor, the elderly, and the vulnerable will be given the rice free of charge, while others will have to buy the rice at the price we formally bought it before the dollar rose very high so that it won’t be a one-off and we can continue till the issue of the dollar is settled,” he said.
Governor Abiodun assured the people of Ogun State that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully in charge and knows what he is doing.
According to him, the President is on top of the situation, adding that Nigerians will soon start seeing the manifestation of the several policies put in place to curtail the rising inflation
He added that the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Yemi Cardoso, at a meeting he had with him, has assured that the dollar would soon fall.
“Everything we are experiencing at the moment is very transient, it will soon pass away. Let me assure you, the meeting we had yesterday (Tuesday) and today (Wednesday) after I left that meeting this evening, I am convinced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully in charge. He knows what he is doing.
“With the plan that he has begun to implement, you will soon begin to see the change. We must remain very hopeful.
“The last meeting I had was with the CBN Governor. He said I should quote him and tell you that, very soon, the dollar will crash,” he said.
Abiodun noted that his administration in realization of the present hardship facing the country took some steps to cushion the effect, even as he recalled that an intervention worth more than N5 billion was announced by his administration last week.
Tertiary students of Ogun State origin across the country will receive N50,000 each, the governor said.
The secondary and primary school category with about 800,000 students, Prince Abiodun noted, will be done in phases, with the first phase, comprising 100,000 students getting N10,000 each.
Those not captured now would get five exercise books while waiting for the next phase.
The governor said women and the elderly would benefit from free medical care with insurance cards worth N18,000.
Abiodun further noted that his administration would set aside about N500 million monthly to offset the payment of deductions for civil servants in the state public service.
Governor Abiodun urged Nigerians, especially the youths not to allow themselves to be used by unscrupulous elements to disrupt the peace of the country.
“It is now so bad that they have planned to use our youths, give them money to disrupt the peace of the country by staging protests.
“What we going through isn’t what other countries around the world haven’t also experienced. But they were very patriotic, calm because they know the solution is on the way,” he said.

A non governmental organisation, Dynamic Patriotic Citizens Foundation has condemned the recent call for the dismissal of the Army Logistics Officer, Major General Erema Akerejola by a non governmental organisation known as Center for Social Justice Equity and transparency, CSJET.
The NGO in a statement jointly signed by the group’s Director of Research, documentation and evaluation, Comrade Gani Muhammed and Director of Orientation and Mobilization, Sunday Alpheus Orji on Wednesday, describes the call by the group as baseless and heartless
The foundation further stated that the call for the dismissal of the army officer is an attempt to distract an hardworking public servant.
“We are the Dynamic Patriotic Citizens Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization that is out to encourage hard working and patriotic Citizens working diligently, with patriotism, in serving the Nation Nigeria.

“As an NGO that has been profiling and monitoring the Nigerian Army vis a vis the fight against insurgents in Nigeria, we have observed that his traducers have resulted to this incessant harassment, sheer blackmail and a deliberate attempt to rub his image in the mud and to weep up sentiments against him through the usual traditional and social media trial and conviction without real trial which is with the ultimate aim of bringing him down when all attempts to hoodwink him into negotiating and giving them money has failed and with the aim of easing him out of office with ignominy.
“These same people have gone ahead with their sinister motives by sponsoring damaging and defamatory report against General Erema Akerejola through an online media the same set of people suspected to be working in cahoots have gone ahead in their act of blackmail by publishing a defamatory news item using another media organisation 6th February, 2024; through another news report of their co-opted felon called Centre for Social Justice Equity and Transparency (CSJET) which is equally a Non Governmental Organization.

“We wish to call on the general public through your mediums and media organizations to disregard the antics of these mischief makers, seeking cheap popularity to bring the reputation of Major General Akerejola to disrepute and reduce his status in integrity in the estimation of the public.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday directed the immediate payment of electricity bills owed by State House, Aso Rock to The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC).
This was contained in a press statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, explaining that the total electricity debt owed by the State House was N342,352,217.46 and Tinubu said it should be cleared after the reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.
The state reads: “President Bola Tinubu has directed immediate settlement of outstanding electricity bill due to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company. The President’s directive follows the reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.
“Contrary to the AEDC’s initial claim of N923million debt in paid advertorial in newspapers, the State House outstanding bill is N342, 352, 217.46, according to a letter by the management of AEDC to the State House Permanent Secretary dated February 14, 2024.
“Having reconciled the position to the satisfaction of both parties, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (@femigbaja), has given assurance that the debt will be paid to AEDC before the end of this week.
“Following the example of the Presidency, Chief of Staff also urged other MDAs to reconcile their accounts with AEDC and pay their electricity bills.”
On Monday, the AEDC threatened to disconnect the electricity supply of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, along with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) over a total debt of N47.1 billion.
The company said the Presidential Villa owes the sum of N923,873,150 as an outstanding debt for electricity charges.
It gave the MDAs 10 days to comply and pay their debts or risk disconnection and subsequent blackout from February 28, 2024.
The electricity distribution company in the document stated that it was constrained to publish the details of the debts which had lasted for long for the services rendered
