  • Security threat: No cause for alarm, Aiyedatiwa assure Ondo residents

    by

    ,

Ondo State Government on Thursday allayed the fears of reported security threat to some parts of the state, assuring that relevant authorities including security agencies are working round the clock “to prevent and respond to any potential threats.”

The assurance, made in a statement by the Information and Orientation Commissioner, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, was in reaction to a reported leaked security memo on possible terrorist attack in some parts of the state.

According to the statement, titled “Re:
Leaked security memo on possible terrorist attack in some parts of Ondo state”:

“The Government of Ondo State is aware of the recent security alert memo of the State Security Services addressed to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure regarding a possible terrorist attack in some parts of the state, which got leaked to the media.

“The leaked memo is part of regular intelligence reports that are routinely shared among security agencies and the government. Such reports are a normal part of security operations, aimed at identifying and preventing potential threats. These intelligence reports often contain varying levels of threat assessment and are used in joint operations by security agencies to enhance vigilance and take proactive measures.

“The public can be assured that these reports are being acted upon by the government and relevant security agencies, and necessary precautions are being taken to ensure safety and security. The emphasis remains on maintaining vigilance and cooperation between security agencies and the government to prevent and respond to any potential threats.

“We urge all residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency. We want to reassure you that every measure is being taken to prevent any attack in Ondo State.

“The Ondo State government, led by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, is in constant contact with security agencies and is taking several steps to protect residents, especially those in border communities, so that Ondo State can remain as one of the safest States in the country.

“Once again, we appeal to residents to remain calm, go about their normal daily activities, refrain from taking laws into their hands, cooperate with security agencies and provide any information that may help prevent any threat in any part of the State.

  • Court restrains ODSG from appointing new Olu of Jinrinwo

    by

    ,

The Ondo State High Court sitting in Okitipupa has issued an interim injunction restraining the Ondo State Government and other relevant authorities from taking any further steps toward the selection or appointment of a new Olu of Jinrinwo in the Ugbo area of Ilaje Local Government.

The order, granted by Hon. Justice L. B. Ologun on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, followed an ex parte motion filed by His Royal Majesty, Oba Olawole Inspiration Ajimosun, the incumbent Olu of Jinrinwo.

In suit No. HCOK/36/CIV/2025, Oba Ajimosun, through his counsel, O. A. Meduoye, Esq., prayed the court to restrain the defendants, including the Governor of Ondo State, the State Executive Council, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, and the Secretary of the Ilaje Local Government Chieftaincy Committee, from taking any action relating to the selection or appointment of another person as the Olu of Jinrinwo.

After reviewing the motion and the supporting affidavit, Justice Ologun held that the application was meritorious, particularly concerning the second relief sought. Consequently, the court granted an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, or privies from taking “any step or further steps on the selection or appointment of the Olu of Jinrinwo or any person bearing any similar title” in the community, pending the determination of the substantive motion on notice.

The court further directed that the motion on notice and other processes be served promptly on all defendants and adjourned the matter to November 4, 2025, for hearing.

Justice Ologun clarified that the interim order shall lapse after fourteen (14) days from the date of issuance unless further extended by the court.

The case underscores the ongoing tussle over the Jinrinwo traditional stool, with the claimant asserting his vested right to the throne as the legitimate and incumbent monarch under the customary and statutory laws of Ondo State.

  • Investigate Tunji-Ojo’s NYSC certificate, group petitions CCB

    by

The Accountability Front for Justice and Good Governance (AFJGG) has petitioned the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to urgently investigate the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) certificate scandal hung on the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The group in the petition entitled “Petition on Breach of Conduct of a Public Officer, Urgent Call for Investigation Into Dual Engagement in Public Service by Hon. Olubunmi Tuji-Ojo” dated Oct. 17, 2025 and addressed to Chairman, CCB was signed by Comrade Adebola Adedara, Convener AFJGG.

The group alleged that Tunji-Ojo was engaged concurrently as a Corps member and a member of House of Representatives in the same year between 2019 and 2020, citing a case of dual engagement in the civil service.

The group noted that with the alleged dual engagement, Tunji-Ojo’s has breached the Code of Conduct rules and violated the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The petition: “We, the undersigned concerned citizens and stakeholders in Nigeria’s democratic governance, respectfully submit this petition to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) concerning a serious breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers as contained in Part I of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“The matter pertains specifically to the dual engagement in public service by Tunji-Ojo between 2019 and 2020, when he allegedly served concurrently as a Member of the House of Representatives and as a participant in the NYSC programme, both of which are full-time national assignments under the law.

“Facts of the matter are: Status as Member, House of Representatives (2019–2023):, Tunji-Ojo was elected to represent the Akoko North West/North East, Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, following the 2019 general elections and was duly inaugurated in June 2019.

“Membership of the National Assembly is a full-time constitutional engagement, with entitlement to salary, allowances, and privileges of office.

“Available records indicates that during this same period (2019–2020), Tunji-Ojo was also mobilized by the NYSC for national service and while serving as a federal legislator and drawing emoluments from public funds, he was concurrently engaged as a corps member, a clear case of dual public service engagement.

“The 1999 Constitution expressly prohibits a public officer from receiving emoluments from, or participating in, more than one public office or service at the same time, the concurrent performance of legislative duties and NYSC service falls squarely within this proscription,” the petition read in parts.

The group also noted that the legal implications of such was a breach of the code of conduct for public officers under Paragraph 2(a) & (b), Part I of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution (as amended):

“A public officer shall not —receive or be paid emolument of any kind in respect of any public office other than the one he is occupying; or engage or participate in the management or running of any other public service apart from his primary assignment.”

“By serving simultaneously as a federal legislator and an NYSC member — both offices within the public service Hon. Tunji-Ojo was in direct breach of this constitutional provision.

Contravention of Section 1 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, (Cap C15 LFN 2004): the Act mandates the Bureau to ensure that public officers observe the highest standards of morality and accountability in public service.

“Holding two full-time public service positions concurrently undermines this standard and constitutes misconduct under the law.

“The concurrent service undermines the transparency, and accountability in public office, eroding public confidence in the sanctity of Nigeria’s governance institutions,” the petition further read.

The group, however, prayed that the CCB should commence immediate investigation into the matter in line with its constitutional powers under Paragraph 3(e) of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“Refer the matter to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for appropriate adjudication and sanctions in accordance with the Constitution and the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.

“Uphold the principles of transparency and accountability by ensuring that this case is investigated thoroughly and concluded in the public interest,” the group said.

The group noted that the petition was made in good faith and in the overriding public interest to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s public service and reaffirm the supremacy of constitutional ethics in governance.

“We trust that the CCB will handle this matter promptly and with the seriousness it deserved” the group said.

  • Gov. Aiyedatiwa ‘ll restore Ondo’s sporting glory – SSA Akinrotoye

    by

    ,

Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Sports, Hon. Kehinde Akinrotoye, has assured the management of the state Sports Council that the old glory of sports in Ondo State will be restored.

He explained that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa cannot be everywhere to know what is happening in all sectors of the state, which is why he was appointed as the SSA on Sports.

He added that it is important to have someone who will be giving the Governor on-the-spot reports of events, especially in the Sports Council.

The former Coordinator of Rising Stars stated this at a meeting held with the management and sectional heads of the council in Akure, the state capital.

He urged the sectional heads to put their challenges in writing, promising to liaise with other stakeholders to brief the Governor.

“Our Governor is a sports-loving leader, and I am very sure that when I bring your requests to him, he will attend to them positively. We need someone who will be presenting your matters to the Governor, because it is not possible for him to be everywhere.

” I can assure you that sports in our state will improve under the current administration,” he said.

“We need action more than talk, and I will do all I can, in conjunction with other stakeholders, to discuss with Mr Governor the need to host our medalists from national events,” he added.

Responding, the General Manager of the Sports Council, Mr. Sunday Fagite, thanked the SSA for deeming it fit to visit the council.

He added that the SSA is a sports enthusiast who understands the language of the sector, and urged him to assist the council in presenting their issues to the Governor.

Sectional heads at the meeting promised to work harder for the development of sports in the state.

“They assured the SSA of their maximum support and said their requests would be submitted as directed.

They informed the SSA that the council needs more coaches to replace those who have retired and requested that the honorary coaches in the council be absorbed into the system.

“Apart from our requests, government needs to do something about athletes’ remuneration.

“Many of our athletes have been poached by other states because of unattractive welfare packages,” they noted.

  • Ekimogun Roundtable Uncovers Plot to Discredit Accountability Project

    by

The Ekimogun Roundtable has uncovered a desperate plot by a serving political office holder in Ondo to undermine its ongoing Accountability and Transparency Project aimed at tracing and exposing the management of over ₦6 billion worth of constituency projects allocated to ondo city.

In a statement signed by its acting secretary Ms Christiana Ayodele and released to pressmen in Akure on Tuesday, the group says its findings reveal that the politician has mobilized his loyalists and instructed them to organize protests to the palace of the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom as well as the residences of notable chiefs in Ondo City, in a bid to blackmail and discredit its efforts.

Ekimogun Roundtable wishes to state unequivocally that no amount of intimidation, propaganda, or manipulation will stop this accountability drive. We remain firmly committed to ensuring that every kobo meant for the development of Ondo city is accounted for and redirected to benefit the people.

Among the projects under scrutiny are:

463million naira Ondo City Library project

₦85 million Yaba Youth and Women Empowerment Fund

Over ₦250 million Flood Control Project Fund

Hundreds of millions earmarked for Streetlights and Instructional Materials, among others.

The people of Ondo deserve full transparency and accountability. These constituency projects were not designed to enrich individuals but to uplift communities, empower youth and women, and improve public infrastructure.

We call on security agencies, traditional rulers, and all well-meaning citizens to disregard any attempts at blackmail and instead stand firm with us in demanding accountability and good governance.

Ekimogun Roundtable will not relent until the truth is unearthed, the whereabouts of these funds are uncovered, and the resources are redirected back to the people where they rightfully belong.

  • N85 Million Naira Yaba Youth Empowerment Fund: Court Assumes Jurisdiction Sets dates

    by

    ,

The Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Hon. Justice Obiora A. Egwuatu, has assumed jurisdiction in the matter between the Registered Trustees of the Ekimogun Roundtable and the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) over the controversial N85 million Yaba Youth and Women Empowerment Project.

The suit, filed under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1788/2024, challenges the processes adopted by the BCDA in the award and execution of the empowerment scheme, citing alleged violations of the Public Procurement Act 2007.

The Ekimogun Roundtable, a socio-economic group of Ondo indigenes at home and in the Diaspora, argues that the agency failed to comply with Section 18(a) of the Act, which mandates a thorough needs assessment and evaluation before implementing public projects. The group further contends that Section 16(1d) of the law, which emphasizes transparency, accountability, and fairness in public procurement, was also breached.

Represented by Elvis Ejeta, Esq., and a team of eight other lawyers, the Roundtable maintains that empowerment programs meant for the youth and women of Yaba in Ondo West Local Government Area must reflect the real needs and aspirations of the beneficiaries rather than arbitrary items imposed by the implementing agency and or outright disappearance.

The matter has been adjourned to November 19th, 2025, for final adoption of addresses, after which a date will be fixed for judgment.

Speaking after the proceedings, representatives of the Ekimogun Roundtable reaffirmed the group’s commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and meaningful community engagement in the use of public resources.

“This case is not just about compliance with the law but about protecting the economic future of Yaba youth and women. Empowerment must be rooted in their actual needs and aspirations to deliver lasting impact,” the group stated.

The Ekimogun Roundtable remains optimistic that justice will prevail and that this case will set a precedent for responsible governance and proper utilization of empowerment funds across Nigeria and charged lawmakers to desist from manipulating/shortchanging their constituents under the guise of empowerment schemes.
