A young Nigerian Navy officer, Lt. A.M. Yarima, who recently had a confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, reportedly escaped an ass@ssination attempt on Sunday evening.
Military sources told Vanguard that Yarima was trailed by unidentified men dressed in black and riding in two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates. The vehicles allegedly followed him from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.
According to the source, the officer noticed the surveillance and executed a “strategic maneuver,” successfully evading the suspected assailants. The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 p.m.
The source added that the matter is under investigation and is receiving “the seriousness it deserves,” noting that further details are being withheld so as not to compromise the process.
FHT Mega Express Limited, a Lagos-based equipment, machinery, and logistics firm, has sued Parallex Bank Limited at the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square, over an alleged failure to release shipping documents for imported goods worth €7,310,257.99 despite receiving 100% full payment of N7,154,677,000 to establish the applicable letters of credit since 2023.
The company is seeking a court order to freeze N7.15 billion in the bank’s accounts across Nigeria in interest-yielding instruments pending the substantive suit.Through its counsel, Adedayo Oshodi (SAN), FHT filed a motion ex parte marked ID/AOR/6143/2025 on October 17, 2025.
In a 41-paragraph affidavit deposed to by General Manager Ezekiel Olumi, the company stated it had no prior relationship with Parallex Bank, was never a credit customer and never took any loan.
The arrangement, which began in June 2023, was strictly non-borrowing and meant solely for creating letters of credit to pay European suppliers.
Parallex Bank issued an Indicative Offer of Banking Facilities on June 7, 2023, requiring full naira deposits equivalent to the euro values.
FHT opened a current account on July 27, 2023, and between July 2023 and February 2024 deposited N7,154,677,000 to fund four LCs tied to Form M numbers: MF20230085253 (€4,750,609.00), MF20230122580 (€839,648.99), MF20230125197 (€502,485.00), and MF20230132545 (€1,720,000.00).The consignments, totaling 30 containers of heavy machinery, arrived between February 2024 and February 2025.
The bank released documents, including bills of lading, for only one consignment worth €502,485.00 (N434,408,834.68).
Documents for the remaining 29 containers were seized without any reasonable justification by the bank. On December 10 and 12, 2024, FHT demanded the release of the documents, but Parallex instead asked for an additional N3,759,024,395.45 to cover exchange rate differentials. The request the FHT turned down as Parallex has no reason to do so as it ought to have proceeded to buy the foreign exchange as soon as FHT account was founded but instead the bank chose to trade with the FHT money without paying interest on it and yet turned around to ask FHT to pay differential when the neglect and failure to act on time which resulted to increase in exchange rete is entirely that of Parallex Bank.
Due to the bills of lading that was withheld and the consignment having overstayed at the Ports, Nigeria Customs Service got a court order from The Federal High court to condemned and auction the uncleared overtime goods. When the matter came up on Thursday before Justice Abdul-Raheem Muyideen, Oshodi (SAN) urged the court to grant the freezing order to preserve the funds, stressing directed that the motion be served on Parallex Bank, and adjourned to Monday, November 18, 2025, for the motion on notice. As of November 14, 2025, Parallex Bank, which upgraded from microfinance to commercial banking status in 2021, has not responded publicly to the allegations.
The case underscores growing tensions over letters of credit amid Nigeria’s persistent foreign exchange volatility, with the naira falling from about N460/€ in mid-2023 to over N1,600/€ by late 2025.
FHT Mega Express insists it fulfilled all obligations and seeks justice to recover its funds and address losses from the auctioned consignments.

Ondo State Government on Thursday allayed the fears of reported security threat to some parts of the state, assuring that relevant authorities including security agencies are working round the clock “to prevent and respond to any potential threats.”
The assurance, made in a statement by the Information and Orientation Commissioner, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, was in reaction to a reported leaked security memo on possible terrorist attack in some parts of the state.
According to the statement, titled “Re: Leaked security memo on possible terrorist attack in some parts of Ondo state”:
“The Government of Ondo State is aware of the recent security alert memo of the State Security Services addressed to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure regarding a possible terrorist attack in some parts of the state, which got leaked to the media.
“The leaked memo is part of regular intelligence reports that are routinely shared among security agencies and the government. Such reports are a normal part of security operations, aimed at identifying and preventing potential threats. These intelligence reports often contain varying levels of threat assessment and are used in joint operations by security agencies to enhance vigilance and take proactive measures.
“The public can be assured that these reports are being acted upon by the government and relevant security agencies, and necessary precautions are being taken to ensure safety and security. The Ondo State High Court sitting in Okitipupa has issued an interim injunction restraining the Ondo State Government and other relevant authorities from taking any further steps toward the selection or appointment of a new Olu of Jinrinwo in the Ugbo area of Ilaje Local Government.
The order, granted by Hon. Justice L. B. Ologun on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, followed an ex parte motion filed by His Royal Majesty, Oba Olawole Inspiration Ajimosun, the incumbent Olu of Jinrinwo.
In suit No. HCOK/36/CIV/2025, Oba Ajimosun, through his counsel, O. A. Meduoye, Esq., prayed the court to restrain the defendants, including the Governor of Ondo State, the State Executive Council, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, and the Secretary of the Ilaje Local Government Chieftaincy Committee, from taking any action relating to the selection or appointment of another person as the Olu of Jinrinwo.
After reviewing the motion and the supporting affidavit, Justice Ologun held that the application was meritorious, particularly concerning the second relief sought. Consequently, the court granted an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, or privies from taking “any step or further steps on the selection or appointment of the Olu of Jinrinwo or any person bearing any similar title” in the community, pending the determination of the substantive motion on notice.
The court further directed that the motion on notice and other processes be served promptly on all defendants and adjourned the matter to November 4, 2025, for hearing.
Justice Ologun clarified that the interim order shall lapse after fourteen (14) days from the date of issuance unless further extended by the court.
The case underscores the ongoing tussle over the Jinrinwo traditional stool, with the claimant asserting his vested right to the throne as the legitimate and incumbent monarch under the customary and statutory laws of Ondo State.
The Accountability Front for Justice and Good Governance (AFJGG) has petitioned the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to urgently investigate the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) certificate scandal hung on the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The group in the petition entitled “Petition on Breach of Conduct of a Public Officer, Urgent Call for Investigation Into Dual Engagement in Public Service by Hon. Olubunmi Tuji-Ojo” dated Oct. 17, 2025 and addressed to Chairman, CCB was signed by Comrade Adebola Adedara, Convener AFJGG.
The group alleged that Tunji-Ojo was engaged concurrently as a Corps member and a member of House of Representatives in the same year between 2019 and 2020, citing a case of dual engagement in the civil service.
The group noted that with the alleged dual engagement, Tunji-Ojo’s has breached the Code of Conduct rules and violated the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The petition: “We, the undersigned concerned citizens and stakeholders in Nigeria’s democratic governance, respectfully submit this petition to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) concerning a serious breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers as contained in Part I of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
“The matter pertains specifically to the dual engagement in public service by Tunji-Ojo between 2019 and 2020, when he allegedly served concurrently as a Member of the House of Representatives and as a participant in the NYSC programme, both of which are full-time national assignments under the law.
“Facts of the matter are: Status as Member, House of Representatives (2019–2023):, Tunji-Ojo was elected to represent the Akoko North West/North East, Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, following the 2019 general elections and was duly inaugurated in June 2019.
“Membership of the National Assembly is a full-time constitutional engagement, with entitlement to salary, allowances, and privileges of office.
“Available records indicates that during this same period (2019–2020), Tunji-Ojo was also mobilized by the NYSC for national service and while serving as a federal legislator and drawing emoluments from public funds, he was concurrently engaged as a corps member, a clear case of dual public service engagement.
“The 1999 Constitution expressly prohibits a public officer from receiving emoluments from, or participating in, more than one public office or service at the same time, the concurrent performance of legislative duties and NYSC service falls squarely within this proscription,” the petition read in parts.
The group also noted that the legal implications of such was a breach of the code of conduct for public officers under Paragraph 2(a) & (b), Part I of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution (as amended):
“A public officer shall not —receive or be paid emolument of any kind in respect of any public office other than the one he is occupying; or engage or participate in the management or running of any other public service apart from his primary assignment.”
“By serving simultaneously as a federal legislator and an NYSC member — both offices within the public service Hon. Tunji-Ojo was in direct breach of this constitutional provision.
Contravention of Section 1 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, (Cap C15 LFN 2004): the Act mandates the Bureau to ensure that public officers observe the highest standards of morality and accountability in public service.
“Holding two full-time public service positions concurrently undermines this standard and constitutes misconduct under the law.
“The concurrent service undermines the transparency, and accountability in public office, eroding public confidence in the sanctity of Nigeria’s governance institutions,” the petition further read.
The group, however, prayed that the CCB should commence immediate investigation into the matter in line with its constitutional powers under Paragraph 3(e) of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
“Refer the matter to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for appropriate adjudication and sanctions in accordance with the Constitution and the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.
“Uphold the principles of transparency and accountability by ensuring that this case is investigated thoroughly and concluded in the public interest,” the group said.
The group noted that the petition was made in good faith and in the overriding public interest to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s public service and reaffirm the supremacy of constitutional ethics in governance.
“We trust that the CCB will handle this matter promptly and with the seriousness it deserved” the group said.
