Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has voiced strong disapproval over President Bola Tinubu’s recent list of ambassadorial nominees submitted to the Senate for confirmation.
Obi described the list as a confirmation of fears that the Tinubu administration is fostering mediocrity, corruption, and impunity in key public appointments.
In a post on X, Obi questioned the judgment behind some nominees, saying, “Yes, some of the names being paraded to represent us as ambassadors globally are shocking. But with a leadership that has allowed mediocrity, corruption, and impunity to rise to the top, who else did you expect them to choose?”
He condemned the government for prioritizing trivialities over urgent national issues: “When our people are being killed, our leaders are busy hosting dinners. When children are being snatched from their schools, the political class is celebrating and dancing. This is not governance. This is not leadership. And this is certainly not the Nigeria we deserve.”
Obi warned that such moral decay and national indifference cannot continue, stressing that a nation thrives when its leaders empathize with citizens, uphold competence, and ensure accountability—not when frivolity dominates public service.
He encouraged young Nigerians to remain hopeful and active, stating: “Do not lose hope. Do not become numb. Do not let this darkness demoralize your hearts. The New Nigeria we dream of—a just, secure, productive, and respected nation—is still possible. But it will not happen by accident. It will happen because people like you refuse to accept failure as our destiny.”
The Ondo State Football Association Chairman, Otunba Dele Ajayi, has hailed the launch of the Club Owners Association in the state as a groundbreaking and timely step for football development.

Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was violently attacked at his son’s residence at approximately 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, 30 November 2025.
According to security sources, a group believed to be associated with the Aye Confraternity allegedly stormed the home of Mr. Nureni Temitope Pedro, son of the deceased, in what is suspected to have been a targeted attack on the family.
Sources suggest that the attackers intended to harm Mr. Nureni and other family members. While Mr. Nureni managed to escape, tragically, his father, Alhaji Fatai Pedro, was shot and reportedly died before emergency responders and medical personnel could arrive at the scene.
A security source confirmed that authorities have launched a full-scale manhunt for the assailants. As of this report, no arrests have been made, but investigations are ongoing.

A major internal crisis has exploded within two key support groups in Ondo State, as the Grassroot Movement Team and the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG) have issued 48-hour ultimatums to their former coordinators, demanding full accountability for funds, property and alleged misuse of group identities.
At an emergency meeting held on Sunday, the Grassroot Movement Team, led by Engr. Benson Atere, declared that its former State Coordinator, Hon. Saka Yusuf, must within 48 hours render a detailed account of the organisation’s finances and return all group properties in his possession.
Atere described what he called the persistent illegal patronage by Saka Yusuf as an affront to the collective integrity of the group and an undemocratic hijack of our mandate.
According to the group, Saka Yusuf appointed himself state leader, and despite his removal in October, he allegedly continued to parade himself as coordinator, created a factional structure, and abused the aims and objectives of the group.
The leadership stressed that their structure enjoys the support and political blessing of the Ondo State Governor, who they emphasised remains the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, adding that the Saka Yusuf faction has no recognition from the group, the state government, or the APC leadership.
“Saka Yusuf must explain how funds entered and left the group’s account, who authorised him to act as state leader, and why he continues to use our name illegally. His activities are unknown to us and unknown to the Ondo APC,” the group stated.
In a parallel development, the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG) has also slammed a 48-hour ultimatum on three of its former leaders, Olumuyiwa Asagunla, Afolabi Iwalewa, and Mrs. Yetunde Adeyanju, demanding a full statement of financial activities and immediate handover of all group related items.
Speaking on behalf of AMG, Hon. Akinrinlola Benjamin accused the trio of attempting to seize control of the group after approaching members with sponsorship offers.
Benjamin described their actions as barbaric, deceptive and a direct attack on the unity and purpose of AMG in Ondo State.
He said the group had already retrieved its mandate from Asagunla, adding that AMG’s loyalty to the Governor and to the APC in Ondo State remains intact and unwavering.
Both groups also expressed anger over what they described as the failure of the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address rising allegations concerning his academic records, controversies they warned are creating tensions within the APC both at the state and national levels.
According to them, the minister’s refusal to clarify his credentials is already hurting the administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and undermining party unity.
They warned that they are prepared to join statewide APC protests if the situation continues to escalate.
Both groups affirmed that once the 48-hour deadline expires, a total restructuring of their leadership architecture will begin across Ondo State.
They labelled the period as Accountability Hours, during which no former leader will be allowed to hold on to group names, logos, funds or materials.
The crisis marks one of the most intense internal conflicts within APC aligned support structures in recent months.

For the first time in Nigeria’s democratic history, a serving Minister of the Federal Republic, one entrusted with the sensitive portfolio of the Ministry of Interior, the nerve centre of internal security, citizenship matters, and public safety is facing intense nationwide scrutiny over unresolved questions surrounding his academic records and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) status.
Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, recently celebrated for improvements in passport issuance, now confronts growing public demand for complete, verifiable, and transparent disclosure of all documentation relating to his tertiary education and NYSC service. Nigerians argue that a public officer charged with enforcing national laws must himself demonstrate full compliance with the same laws.
As the Minister continues on high level federal delegations abroad, many citizens insist that Nigeria must first clarify the unresolved discrepancies that have cast a shadow on the integrity of national institutions.
The Outstanding Questions conflicting Timelines of NYSC Mobilization, public records and multiple leaked documents raise major questions on why Hon. Tunji-Ojo was reportedly mobilized for NYSC in 2006, the same period coincides with allegations that he was in London in 2006.
He was reportedly remobilized in 2019, the same year he was already serving as a Member of the House of Representatives.
These overlapping timelines have led to widespread concern that proper NYSC procedures may not have been followed, calling into question the validity of documents currently circulating online.
A key question now dominating national discourse is who authored and issued the NYSC letter currently in circulation, and does it represent an official, lawful position of the Corps?
Legal experts note that any document purporting to originate from NYSC must be verified under the NYSC Act, Cap N84 LFN 2004, and any false issuance, whether by insiders or outsiders, constitutes an offence under Nigerian law.
The Ministry of Interior oversees Internal security coordination which includes Immigration and citizenship, Correctional services, Fire service, and Civil defence (NSCDC)
While passport reforms have gained public praise, citizens are increasingly vocal that internal security challenges remain largely unaddressed, and unresolved questions about the Minister’s credentials further undermine public confidence.
Nigerians emphasize that the Ministry of Interior is not a passport ministry, it is the institution responsible for the nation’s internal safety architecture.
Within the Minister’s home state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly distanced itself from the controversy, emphasizing that the integrity of national institutions must not be compromised under any circumstance.
Party stakeholders argue that the ongoing scandal does not reflect the values of the party in Ondo or at the national level.
Citizens, civil society organizations, and legal practitioners are urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order a formal review of the documents submitted to the National Assembly prior to the Minister’s confirmation and direct the NYSC to publicly clarify the authenticity and origin of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s mobilizations record, to as well reassert the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and lawful governance.
Under Section 11 of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2011, agencies are required to provide requested records within seven days. Nigerians note that NYSC’s inability or refusal to provide clear information further deepens suspicion and reflects poorly on institutional credibility.
The demand for clarity is legally grounded in the FOI Act (2011), citizens have the right to request and obtain academic records submitted to government institutions, NYSC mobilization and discharge records. Any official document used in the appointment or confirmation of a public officer
Failure to provide these records within the statutory period violates federal law.
Submitting false documents or evading service obligations is an offence. Issuing fraudulent letters or altering official NYSC records is also a criminal act. Constitutional Public Integrity Requirements
Sections 66, 147, and 182 of the Constitution require that public officers must not present forged or falsified documents in pursuit of public office.
Nigerians argue that this matter transcends politics. It touches the core of national credibility, particularly because the Minister oversees agencies responsible for enforcing compliance with national laws. Inconsistencies in his own documents undermine the moral authority of the Ministry.
Nigeria cannot afford institutional contradictions at a time of heightened internal security challenges. A government cannot enforce the law effectively when questions linger about whether its own key officials complied with that same law.
As party stakeholders are following the constitutional provisions in Ondo State, aligning with the agitations of Nigerians in demanding clarity backed by evidence, it is important that Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo should publicly address the unresolved contradictions in his academic and NYSC records to restore confidence in both the Ministry of Interior and the institutions responsible for national security and public integrity.
The President is now expected to take decisive steps to ensure transparency, protect the credibility of national institutions, and reaffirm that no individual, regardless of title, stands above the law.
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the violent attack and robbery that occurred during a burial ceremony at the Government Field in Okitipupa, where popular Fuji musician Abbas Akande Obesere was assaulted while performing.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, announced the development in a statement issued in Akure, noting that the arrests were made following swift action on credible intelligence received by the Command.
According to the statement, the incident happened on November 21, 2025, when a group of hoodlums, allegedly led by one Michael Abbey, also known as “Emir,” launched a violent attack on the musician in the middle of his performance. The gang reportedly carted away a bag containing ₦4 million, as well as the artiste’s gold chain, mobile phone, and wristwatch.
The chaos intensified when Obesere’s manager attempted to intervene and was stabbed in the hand with a broken bottle, resulting in severe injuries.
Following the attack, police operatives immediately commenced targeted operations, which led to the arrest of two key suspects identified as Michael Abbey (Emir) and Oniye Oke. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to participating in the robbery.
The police recovered ₦479,100 from the suspects, believed to be part of the stolen money. The statement added that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover the remaining stolen items.
The Command commended the Inspector-General of Police for his continued support, which it said has strengthened intelligence-led policing and improved operational efficiency across Ondo State.
The Commissioner of Police issued a stern warning against hooliganism, thuggery, and violence—especially as the festive season approaches—assuring residents that all individuals connected to the crime will be brought to justice.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring a peaceful environment for all residents.

A group of government‑recognised farmers in Irore Ajelanwa Community, OA3A Oluwa Forest Reserve, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has petitioned the Assistant Inspector‑General of Police, Zone 17, over alleged threats to their lives and forcible entry onto their farmlands.
The petition, signed by their solicitor Henry Akingbesote and dated 30 October, alleges that one Damilola Olowoniyi invaded the community’s cocoa plantations with a group of armed men, issuing threats and demanding that the farmers vacate the land.
The farmers cultivate about 251 hectares of cocoa and say they are lawful government tenants and beneficiaries of the Ondo State Cocoa Revolution Programme, coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
They are duly registered with the state government and pay annual rent into the government treasury for the portions of land allocated to them.
According to the petition, although the state government has leased part of the forest reserve to SAO Investor, an existing arrangement allows the petitioners to continue their legitimate farming activities in the area.
The solicitor said inquiries revealed that both the Ondo State Government and SAO Investor denied knowledge of Olowoniyi’s actions and confirmed that he has no land rights within the area occupied by the farmers.
The petition alleges that the suspect threatened to kill or maim the farmers and to burn their cocoa plantations if they refused to leave.
It also states that the farmers are living in fear because of repeated intimidation and the presence of armed men around their farms.
The petitioners have appealed to the police to investigate the allegations, arrest those involved, and prevent a possible breakdown of law and order in the community.
Copies of the petition were also sent to the Orunja of Odigbo, Oba Rufus Akinrinmade.
The petitioners noted that they paid N2,510,000 in tax as of December 2024, which demonstrates that they are recognised by the state government.
