  • Ijare Obaship Tussle: I know nothing about Protest by Ijare Indigenes against Sapetu, Ifedore LG Boss, Hon. Olamideji cautions Stakeholders

    by

The Chairman of Ifedore Local Government in Ondo State, Hon. Alex Oladimeji, has cautioned stakeholders especially kingmakers and Princes who candidates battling to become the next Olujare of Ijare Community to stop dragging his name into the selection process of a new monarch.

The Council Boss insisted that he had no power to impose new monarch on the town considering various Chieftaincy laws in the state.

Reacting to a report that he was sponsoring one of the candidates, Oladimeji told newsmen that the allegation by some concerned Ijare indigenes against him as unfounded.

The Olujare stool became vacant two years ago when Oba Adebamigbe Oluwagbemigun, Kokotiri II, joined his ancestors and the process of selecting new monarch by Royal family and kingmakers has been causing differences in the town as nine out of 13 candidates such as Prince Kola Oyewole were screened out.

Some concerned indigenes in a press statement signed by Elder Ojo Bamidele on Sunday, fingered the Chairman of Ifedore Local Government, who is from the town of allegedly plotting to force one of his cousins in the race on the community as Olujare.

The press statement reads, “Permit us to state that the Chairman of Ifedore Local Government, Hon. Alex Oladimeji, who is prejudicially pushing for one of the candidates that is his cousin.”

However reacting in an interview with newsmen, the local government Chairman, Hon. Alex Oladimeji, said due process would be followed, noting that a mass protest in the town at the weekend was not against him but against the Head of the kingmakers, the Sapetu of Ijare, High Chief Wemimo Olaniyan, for delaying the process of picking new monarch.

Oladimeji said, “I need to respond to this because all they wrote against me is a blatant lie. As a local government Chairman, there is a rules and regulations guiding selection of Obas, not only in my community (Ijare), all communities have their declaration/laws that govern them and there is an Ondo State Chieftaincy Law, nobody can influence and even me as the Council Chairman, there is no way I can influence anybody to emerge as the King or force anybody on my town.

“I am not a member of the (Ijare) Royal family, I am not part of the people that screened (Princes), I am not part of the Kingmakers (Afobaje). I don’t have any role to play rather than whatever they do they send it to my office and i will follow up with what the law says.

“I find it strange that I was being fingered that I want to force one of my cousins on the community. I don’t know how; i don’t have any cousin among the people that are contesting (for Olujare stool); But the truth of the matter is that on Saturday there was a protest and the protest was against the Sapetu of Ijare (High Chief) Barrister Wemimo Olaniyan, alleging him that he didn’t allow the selection of new Olujare to continue.

“The community people are not protesting against me. I am not doing anything against the wish of the community, I can only guide the community to avert security breach,” Oladimeji said.

The Council Chairman confirmed that it was true that the Royal Family (Omowas) actually screened out nine out of 13 of the candidates, clearing four of them for the kingmakers to pick from and the family decision sent to the local government; “I don’t know why these people are accusing me wrongly. They protested against Chief Wemimo, not me. I am surprised these people fingered me.

He said, “the truth is that there is a problem among Omowas and even among the kingmakers, they should not shift their problem to me.

“I am not supposed to be dragged to this issue at all. The people accusing me wrongly should go back to their family and resolve their problems and stop dragging my name. I am a local government Chairman and i work with established laws, i can’t create laws by myself,” Oladimeji said.

Ore festival is an annual festival in the local government which marks the end of the planting season and the beginning of another season of harvest.

The Chairman also advised the traditional stewards and the entire indigenes to put today’s festival in praying for the growth and stability and progress of the Ode Irele Community.

The Council Boss equally intimated the stakeholders on the letter directed to the office of Irele Local Government Chairman by the Ondo State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs on the position of the State Government regarding the traditional head of Ode Irele Community.

  • Borokini labels Atiku political attention seeker over Tinubu’s appointment comments

A former lawmaker from Ondo State, Hon. Simeon Borokini, on Monday labelled People’s Democratic Party candidate in the last presidential election,Atiku Abubakar, as attention seekers over President Bola Tinubu’s appointments.

Borokini represented Akure Constituency 1 in the Ondo State House of Assembly (9th assembly).

The former legislator in a statement made available to newsmen in Akure said the unprecedented failure of the PDP in the last general election had left the party weightless.

He added that the inability of the national leadership of PDP to manage its internal crisis which led to the exilic adventure by its prominent bigwigs had further exposed the porosity of the party and the volume of the devaluation it was experiencing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Borokini was reacting to statement credited to Special Assistant to Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu, saying President Bola Tinubu was offering appointments to his critics to silence them.

Shaibu spoke in reaction to the appointment of Taiwo Oyedele, fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), by Tinubu as chair of a presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms.

“Most recent amongst such outings is the invasion of the media space by the Presidential Candidate of the Party, Atiku Abubakar through his Special Assistant on Public Communication in the 2023 polls, Mr. Phrank Shaibu.

“He challenged the appointments of prolific individuals by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria into key political and public positions.

“While one would have thought such appointments remain the prerogative of the president and whoever occupies any office should be decided within the ambit of the president.

“The reaction of Atiku Abubakar on such exercise of constitutional power by the president can only be summarised as that of a sunken individual seeking political rejuvenation in the public space,” the statement read in parts.

Borokini stated that the PDP presidential candidate could not use judiciary to rejuvenate his misplaced political identity, was on hasty voyage to seeking public relevance by wanting to ride on strength of Tinubu to revive his political swag.

“Since his assumption of office, President
Tinubu has proven beyond doubt his political luminary, seasoned diplomacy and undying commitment to the principles of democracy.

“Atiku Abubakar can only imagine to have such rich political prowess to paddle the country like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu but only if wishes were horses,” he said.

  • Don’t set Ondo on fire with political altercation, Ajulo tells ailing Akeredolu’s cabinet members

Kayode Ajulo, a constitutional and activist lawyer, has warned politicians in Ondo to stop heating the polity in the absence of ailing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is currently outside the state attending to his health.

Mr Ajulo frowned at how appointees in the kitchen cabinet of Mr Akeredolu had been frustrating his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who had been in “acting capacity” since the former had been on sick bed.

“You cannot love the people of Ondo state and be engaging in political computations liable to disrupt the peace of the state. It is embarrassing to hear the excessive opposition the Acting Governor is confronting, especially from those who are supposed to be his guides,” he said on Monday while reacting to political bickering among the cabinet members of the governor.

Warning the cabinet members of Mr Akeredolu to be conscious of their actions, Mr Ajulo said the politicians among them should not set Ondo on fire with their desperate ambition to take over from the governor.

He added that those working against the acting governor should understand they are indirectly working against the interests of Mr Akeredolu and the good people of the state.

“You cannot be a loyalist of the government and be working against who the Governor appointed by the provision of the constitution to be in the helms of affairs in his absence because the Acting Governor’s success is the Governor’s success and vice verse.

“The acting governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, also needs the support and prayers of the people of Ondo State, particularly now, against needless political opposition he is contending with for standing in the gap in the absence of the Governor,” he added.

According to him, “We are giving them seven days ultimatum to voluntarily resign their appointments or have their names published with proof in the dailies.

“They must desist from their acts or resign instead of working against the success of the government from within because the peace and development of Ondo State are more paramount than their inordinate ambition.”

Since being incapacitated, members of Mr Akeredolu’s cabinet have been split into factions, using his ill health to cause tension in the state.

The divisions within the cabinet have made some members of the State Executive Council take sides with the deputy, Mr Aiyedatiwa. In contrast, others remain hopeful that the governor will soon be back on his feet and recover from his ailment.

  • I didn’t forge my 2023 UTME result, Ejikeme speaks

Anambra candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme, who was accused by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board of forging her 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Monday insisted that she didn’t forge her result as claimed by the examination board.

Ejikeme stated this in a video she posted on social media on Monday.

Starnews gathered that JAMB in a statement on Sunday evening noted that Ejikeme manually inflated her UTME result from 249 to 362 and used her manually inflated score to attract a N3m scholarship from Innoson Motors and was set to be awarded by the Anambra state government before she was exposed.

“The most pathetic of them all is the case of Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, who claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME and was awarded a N3m scholarship by Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma.

She was even set to be honoured by the Anambra State Government when one of its top officials put a call through to JAMB to confirm her claim only for the Board to reveal that Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma had actually scored 249 and not 362 she claimed. She had manipulated her UTME result to deceive the public to fraudulently obtain a scholarship and other recognitions,” a statement by JAMB said.

However, speaking in the video, Ejikeme said, “My name is Ejikeme Mmesoma. I’m the owner of this result. I went to the JAMB portal to print this result and this is the result they gave me. This is my aggregate, 362.

They scan the QR code on my result and it showed a Yoruba name — Omotola Afolabi who scored 138.

“The same Omotola scored 338 when it was rechecked and this evidence showed that there is a problem.

This is exactly how I printed and downloaded it from their site. So saying that I forged my result is what I don’t know and I am traumatized that they accused me of forging my results because I’m not capable of forging my result,” she added.

She however stressed that both JAMB and DSS when informed did not carry out their investigation on the matter before the board concluded that she forged her result.

  • Ejikeme Joy Mmesome: We have never been proven wrong – JAMB

...withdrawn her 2023 UTME result,  barred her from sitting the board’s examination for the next three years

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is, hereby, restating its earlier position that the UTME result being paraded by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma is patently fake.

Consequently, the Board would like to reassure Nigerians that its system was neither tampered with nor compromised as the candidate simply falsified a copy of a result slip of a candidate named “Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle”, who sat the UTME in 2021 and scored 138.

It is also instructive to note that the candidate, in her statement, has inadvertently revealed the rightful owner of the result she is parading when she pointed out that the QR code on the result slip showed the actual owner of the said result before she peddled a lie in an attempt to obfuscate the truth.

To witness the unassailable position of the Board regarding this obvious falsehood, the general public is, therefore, urged to endeavour to scan the QR code on the result slip to see its actual owner before it was mutilated.

It is to be noted that the QR code encapsulates the UTME result of each candidate, hence, what is on the result sheet is nothing other than the interpretation of the information on this QR code.

Furthermore, the public is also to note that the Board stopped issuing Notification of Result slips in 2021 for the simple reason that candidates were falsifying them. Consequently, the Board had resorted to issuing actual UTME RESULT Slip (not its notification) since 2022 complete with the photograph of candidates.

Similarly, the public is also invited to ponder on the fact that out of all the candidates that sat the 2023 UTME, only Ms. Ejikeme Mmesoma parades the obsolete ‘Notification of Result.’

The Board remains unperturbed by this unfortunate development as this is not the first time such fraudulent claims have been made. As such, Nigerians are urged to recall numerous occasions where the Board was sued for billions of naira only for the lawyers to later apologize profusely for their clients’ misadventures. Prominent among these is the case of a candidate, John Chinedu Ifesinachi, who, in 2021, sued the Board for N2b only for him and his counsel to tender unreserved apology when the candidate eventually confessed his crime in the face of incontrovertible facts.

This case has, therefore, been rightly handed over to relevant security agencies for a thorough investigation to unravel the masterminds of yet another unfortunate scam. The Board is not averse to public scrutiny and hereby suggests a public session with relevant security agencies, representatives of Ms. Ejikeme, and civil society organizations in attendance without delay. This is on account of the Board’s experience over the years, which showed that these wily candidates confessed to their ignoble acts only when confronted with incontestable facts.

Another frightening dimension to the unfolding drama is the unwholesome interest of some nefarious elements, who to all intents and purposes, are determined to goad the candidate on this unproductive path as any casual observer would observe with the obviously stage-managed video aired by Ms. Ejikeme. The  Board urges these confusionists to have a rethink as their evil machinations would soon come to light.

Again, the Board restates its readiness for genuine scrutiny as this case would not be the first time and might not even be the last of such shenanigans. At the end of the day, the truth would manifest and the Board vindicated.

In the meantime, the management of the Board, after considering the weighty infraction committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, and in line with its established procedures, has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and also barred her from sitting the Board’s examination for the next three years.

  • JAMB scowl at Enugu Girl who ‘Forged’ UTME result to get N3m Scholarship

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination result of an Enugu State-born Ejikeme Mmesoma was allegedly manipulated to gain undue advantage.

Mmesoma, who claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME, was recently awarded a N3m scholarship by an Anambra-based automaker, Innocent Chukwuma, who is the chairman of Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Company.

It was gathered that the young girl hails from Enugu State while she schooled and sat for the 2023 UTME in Anambra State.

However, JAMB, in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday, said some of the 2023 UTME candidates were parading fake scores to get an undue advantage from the public.

It also listed the case of one Atung Gerald in Kaduna State that allegedly claimed to have scored 380.

JAMB, therefore, advised the public not to fall victim to the antics of the candidates.

The statement reads in parts; “The attention of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has been drawn to several publications in both print and online media celebrating certain candidates for being high scorers in the 2023 UTME.

“The Board is constrained to set the records straight and wishes to state unequivocally that many of the results which many of these candidates are parading are fake. In many instances, some of these candidates had obtained far lower scores than they are claiming and had used some funny software packages to manipulate their results to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

“The most pathetic of them all is the case of Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, who claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME and was awarded a 3m scholarship by Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma.

“She was even set to be honoured by the Anambra State Government when one of its top officials put a call through to JAMB to confirm her claim only for the Board to reveal that Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma had actually scored 249 and not 362 she claimed. She had manipulated her UTME result to deceive the public to fraudulently obtain scholarship and other recognitions,” it added

The Board further stated that the likes of Mmesoma are still out there deceiving those who are always in a hurry to bestow honours on candidates without confirmation from the Board.
