  • Press Week: Journalists Beat Ondo Lawmakers In a Novelty Match

    In continuation of the 2021 Press Week Celebration, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly on Thursday suffered 2-1 defeat in a Novelty football match against members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

    The match played at Akure township Stadium attracted over twenty lawmakers captained by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun while the journalists were led by the NUJ State Chairman, Adetona Aderoboye.

    The NUJ team scored one goal in the first half of the match that lasted 60minutes while the lawmakers were awarded a penalty to equalise after the Speaker was fouled inside the box 18.

    However, the men of the pen profession rallied to score the winning goal.

    Speaking after the match, Oleyelogun congratulated NUJ members over their Press Week celebrations and the victory recorded during the match.

    The Speaker tasked members of the public to embrace regular exercise to boost their health status.

    Also speaking, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Youths and Sports Development, Hon Olugbenga Omole said the relationship between the Ondo State journalists a d Lawmakers would be sustained, advocating that such friendly match will be more regular.

    In an interview, the Ondo NUJ Chairman expressed joy his team beat the lawmakers, adding that the match was part of strategies to consolidate and boost health status of members.

    Hon. Oluwafemi Fadairo, a leading contestant under the platform of the All Progressive Congress into the Akure South/ North Federal Constituency has disclosed his desires to see his Constituents coming out of poverty and lack as the main reason is aspiring to represent them in the forthcoming House of Representative bye-election.

    Fadairo stated this yesterday at a solidarity get together in his honour which was put together by Sunshine Grassroots Movement, one of the umbrella body that has been campaigning for Hon. Fadairo ticket.

    Fada has fondly called by his admirers took time to appreciate all the teaming supporters for their trust and confidence repose in him.

    He therefore charged them to continue with the spirit of oneness and togetherness so as to achieve the set target.

    According to him ” today’s get together was to be a one million man March rally but he doesn’t want to be seeing has someone violating the electoral law since the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) has not lifted ban on campaign”.

    Fadairo who currently the director of Administration to the Senate President, distinguished Senator. Ahmed Lawal has over the years involving in many notable projects mostly for the youths and women in the area of skill acquisition, soft loan for market women, grading of roads, building and renovations of school among others.

  • One Killed In Ondo cult clash

    A young man, Identified as Clark, has been reportedly killed by suspected cultists in Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa local government of Ondo state.


    The clash which happened in the late hour on Wednesday within Okitipupa township, according to an eyewitness account was described as a clash between two rivalry cult groups.


    It was gathered that about four different fraternities are ruling in the area named; Alora, Alve, Aiye, and Eiye.


    According to a source, “No one knows the cause of the clash. We only saw them running after one another, and later we saw the deceased, named Clark in a pool of his own blood.


    “A source close to the victim, who identified the deceased as a member of Eiye fraternity, said the deceased had earlier posted on his Whatsapp status, “*So many agenda, so many plans, make death no spoil the plan,” but unfortunately, he is dead now.


    “I am using this medium to call on security agencies to come into the matter before they start reciprocating the killing.”
    The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident.


    She said the corpse has been deposited in the morgue in Okitipupa.


    Odunlami said investigation had commenced, promising that the fleeing members would be brought to book as the Anti-cultism squad are fully informed.
    She, therefore, called on parents, to train and monitor their children activities.

  • Ode -Ugbo Mother& child Hospital nearly  completion as group commends Akeredolu

    Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has been commended  for his endless supports in ensuring the speedy approval of Mother and Child Hospital at Ode-ugbo, in Ilaje local government area of the state.

    The Amona Ilaje Ugbo Coastal Communities Development Association (AMAICOMMA) made the commendation during the  2nd annual general meeting held at the  Oba Makin Osangangan hall, Ode-Ugbo, Ilaje local government.

    The Chairman of the Association, Mr Taiwo Pius Orisabinone, Esq, noted that  the project which is geared towards saving lives is  now 97% completed. 

    “Due to the increase in maternal mortality and infant mortality rate, AMAICOMMA and IRDC partnered to build a world-class Mother and Child Hospital in Ode-ugbo.” he said.

    The Chairman noted that three containers of medical equipment for the said hospital had been already delivered to Chevron Nigeria Limited at Its Warri office.

    Earlier, the chairman welcomed everyone to the occasion being the second AGM since the introduction of the offshore’s Global Memorandum of Understanding(GMou).

    The GMOU process was designed principally for the development of the oil-bearing communities in Ugbo kingdom, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo state with guiding principles of partnership; sustainability assurance; accountability; transparency; peacebuilding; project -monitoring; and evaluation.

    And since its inception, the GMoU has brought a radical departure from the old order wherein funds meant for the development of the oil-bearing communities were being diverted by a group of persons at the expense of the main stakeholders. 

    In his words ” I can proudly say now that accountability and transparency are currently embedded in the running and management of oil associations, which is a clear departure from the old order.”

    He, therefore, appreciated all the people who have contributed to making this 2021 AGM possible. “For me, it has indeed being a great honour and privilege to have served you as Chairman of AMAICOMMA for almost four years now. I also and sincerely thank you, the stakeholders and the Ondo State government led by our visionary and amiable leader, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for the opportunity to serve.”

    Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Community Management Board, (CMB)

    Prof. Obafemi Ajibola, represented by Mrs Busola Babalola, congratulated and commended the executives and members of the communities making up the AMAICOMMA CCDC) for a job well done, particularly the Chevron Nigeria Limited.

    He noted that AMICOMMA has started the construction of its permanent secretariat at Ode-Ugbo in Ilaje LGA, which will be completed and commissioned soon, as well as other Impactful capacity building and empowerment projects, including the ongoing construction of the Mother and Child hospital at Ugbo, in collaboration with Ilaje RDC.

    In his speech, General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr Esimaje Brikinn, represented by Mr Adeboye Kayode, commended  the current executive members of AMAICOMMA for what  they have achieved since their inauguration.

    He lauded  them on their progress with the Mother and Child Health Care Center project to ensure quality health care delivery for the benefitting communities, which he said should be completed this year so that the communities could start benefiting from it.

    ” In addition, we look forward to the successful completion and commissioning of the AMAICOMMA office complex. We also appeal to the leadership to build bridges with all stakeholders to achieve harmonious peace and tranquillity in the communities”.

    “We at CNL will continue to provide support to ensure that we achieve sustainable development for the people. We do value, immensely, the partnership between us.” Brikinn said.

  • GOV AKEREDOLU, SECURITY HEADS CELEBRATE RETIRING ONDO CP, SALAMI, AT SECURITY COUNCIL MEETING

    Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has described the retiring Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bolaji Salami, as a gentleman who is dedicated to duty.

    Governor Akeredolu particularly saluted the Police Boss for being a reliable officer, describing him as a team player.

    The CP, Salami, will bow out of service on December 8, 2021, after 35 years of meritorious service to the nation.

    At a brief valedictory session held in his honor during the State Security Council Meeting on Monday, Governor Akeredolu commended the manner the Commissioner of Police handled the #Endsars crisis in the state, describing it as impressive.

    “Since you got to this state, you have related with us very well, particularly during the #Endsars. You have shown that you are a man that could be relied on. A number of stations were razed down. You did not let the adversity cause any panic among the people.

    “You understood the situation and you never reacted. I want to thank you for that. The way you handled this state during #Endsars was more than perfect,” the Governor noted.

    Governor Akeredolu also applauded the retiring officer for his collaboration with other security agencies in the state, saying he is a bold man.

    He said: “But by and large, there is one thing about you. You are a team worker. You have collaborated and worked. I am proud of you. You are a bold man. You look simple but you are bold. You have put your feet down on a lot of things,”.

    Others who spoke at the meeting including the deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu; the Head of Service, John Adeyemo, mni; the chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas and Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo; and SSA to the Governor on Security Matters, Jimoh Dojumo, described the CP as a humble person and professional to the core.

    “He is calm, he is gentle, he wears a smiling face in any situation, he is very matured and he handles issues with so much intelligence. He stands out with his deep knowledge as regards the state he is policing. He is always on point,” the deputy Governor said.

    Odu said: “When he is called on official purposes, he acts immediately and you will never hear him say it is impossible. He will act without seeking any help from you. You are humble, and I know you are still going to places.”

    Heads of security agencies including the Commander, Amotekun Corps; State Commandant NSCDC; Nigeria Immigration Service; State Commander NDLEA; Nigeria Correctional Service; Ag. Director, DSS; Sector Commander, FRSC; and the Commanding Officer, FOB, Igbokoda, showered encomiums on the selfless and courageous service of the retiring CP to the people of the state, the nation and humanity.

    They also prayed for God’s guidance and sound health for the CP.

    In his remarks, the retiring CP appreciated Governor Akeredolu and all other heads of security agencies in the state for their harmonious working relationship and support giving to him which made him to succeed in his duties as CP.

    He specially lauded Governor Akeredolu for his courage and support of what is right and good for the state, saying the Governor is frank, straightforward and bold.

    “You can give directive, but you will never direct anybody to do what is bad. That is what I always let people to know about my Governor. He is frank, straightforward and bold. But he will always do that at the right time. I cherish coming here to work with you and I will say that I enjoyed everything in this state,” the retiring CP added.

  • Breaking: Yoruba Actor Baba suwe is dead

    Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has passed away.
    The actor gave up the ghost on Monday after a long battle with an illness.


    Born on August 22, 1958, he was married to comedienne Omoladun Omidina, who died in September 2009.


    Baba Suwe dominated the Yoruba movie industry for decades, featured in several movies and bagged many awards.


    “The legend is gone, he left today to be in a place of rest”, a source told Daily Post.

  • Hon Akinfolarin  commences Annual grading of rural roads in his Constituency

    The Federal lawmaker representing Odigbo/ Ile oluji & Oke Igbo Federal Constituency at the Federal  House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Akinfolarin Mayowa has commenced another phase of grading roads in his constituency.

    The grading project was flagged off and started today in Ajue ward at New town, cele road.

    The project was declared open in the presence of  Alhaji Olurimisi (former  Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, also the Chief Imam of Odigbo LG), Chief Lisa of Ajue town the Representative of  HRM Oba Bamidele Akinwe ( The Akogbe of Ajue town), Alhaji Fatai Olawale (APC CHAIRMAN ODIGBO LG), Hon Rauf Gbadeyan representing Hon Mrs Margaret Akinsuroji the Chairman of Odigbo LG, Chief Iwapele Otumilara, and a host of others while Hon. Tunji Fabiyi was absent due to his busy schedule.

    Speaking through his SLA ( Hon Johnson Oladosu and Hon Adegboye Najeem, the lawmaker has instructed the grader operator to typically remove the irregularities by cutting the surface of the road or filling them with material moved back and forth across the road.
    Hon Mayo’s SLA said aside from employment and empowerment facilitated by the lawmaker to his constituency in the past, he has also promised to embark on another people-oriented project soonest, but the grading of these roads need urgent attention because it would make the roads motorable and improve the standard of living of his people.

    Hon Akintolayan Gbenro and High Chief  Akinmoladun Olu Festus ( The Lisa of AJue town)  both thanked Rt. Hon Akinfolarin Mayowa for this kind gesture.

    Chief Lisa who happened to be an APC leader in Ajue town stated that the majority of Ajue streets are not motorable, given this, this project commenced at the appropriate time to ameliorate the suffering which Ajue people are passing through due to bad roads.

    Speaking at the flag-off, Hon Gbenro Akintolayan described  ” Rt. Hon Akinfolarin Mayowa has a good leader with quality representation”.  He boldly said that he want to let Rt. Hon  Akinfolarin Mayowa knows that Ajue ward is solidly behind and ready to support him at all times in any of his political aspirations.

    It is essential to make it known that the People’s Representative values, listens and is keen on the yearnings, plights and top priorities of his constituents.

    Worthy of note, Hon. Oniyide Muibi ( Councillor representing Ajue ward) showered encomium on Rt. Hon Akinfolarin Mayowa for the project already facilitated in Ajue ward.

    He noted that the lawmaker had facilitated toilet and classrooms in Ajue primary school, construction of modern Bolehole at Lapaun in Ajue ward, provision of transformers to Dagio community and Orotedo community respectively in Ajue ward.

    As it’s the norm, the grading is usually done in phases as the grading will move from ward to ward throughout the 21 wards in his federal constituency, Ileoluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo federal constituency. We shall keep you updated as we progress on this grading project.

  • 2021 CORPS’ EMPLOYERS WORKSHOP; LG BOSS CHARGES EMPLOYERS TO PRIORITISE CORPS’ MEMBERS WELFARE

    The Chairman Akure South Local Government Area, Hon. Gbenga Olaniyi has charged employers of corps’ members at all levels to always prioritize the welfare of the corps in order to achieve optimum performance.

    Olaniyi stated this at this year corps’ employers workshop which took place at St. Mathias College, Akure.

    Corps’members employers workshop is an annual event that takes place simultaneously across the 36 States of Nigeria and the FCT.

    The theme of this year workshop is ” Optimizing The NYSC/CORPS’Employers Partnership For National Development In The Context Of The New Normal”.

    The Chairman represented by his chief of staff, Hon. Olaniyi Abiodun stressed that the statutory welfare of the corps’ members which includes accommodation, security and financial benefits should be adequate attention as a way of motivating the corps .

    In his own remarks, the Director General NYSC, Brig. Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim represented by Chief. Tunde Fadairo said NYSC was established to foster National Unity, Cooperation and Integration among Nigeria youths with a mandate to train and empower the graduants for economic growth and development through various skills acquisition and community development.

    He however admonished employers not to compromise the objectives of the scheme by always reporting any wrong doing of the corps’members.

    In their contributions, some of the employers took time to ask numerous questions bothering welfare, security and well being of the corps’ members where answers and possible solutions were proffers by State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Victoria Anne.
